Is it really a scam, if it's already called "Foxconn"? That basically translates to "Lies and a scam", so I'd argue they at least didn't try to deceive anyone, since they made it fairly obvious this was a scam.

I grew up in the town where Foxconn is being developed and drive through it often. It’s an absolute disaster. They bought the land where my favorite pumpkin patch was as a kid. :(

When first announced that Foxconn was going to build this, an economist warned that this company has a long history of big promises that they don't deliver on.

I've been a fan of Seth since the days of Weekend Update, and I've always hoped for.. "more" topical comedy. I had always wished that Weekend Update was a daily thing. I get a little bit of that from The Daily Show, but it just isn't the same. Last Week Tonight is great as well. But having Seth doing topical comedy is just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I don't know if its because I'm reminded of his days at SNL, when things were a lot simpler for me (I was in high school at the time) but whatever it is, I dig it. And you're right, it is perfect before bed time.

I love how Seth's Biden impression is basically his Nicholas Cage impression.
I live in Wisconsin and most folks knew it was total nonsense. A total of $7 BILLION in tax breaks for an unreliable company that had already backed out of similar situations in a deal that wouldn't start to pay taxpayers back for YEARS. They were given environmental exemptions, discounts, deals, and funding and they will never pay that back.
Meanwhile, we had fully paid for a modern passenger rail system running from Chicago to Milwaukee to Madison that would have created thousands of permanent jobs, lots of tourism, and saved people the expense of driving, as well as all the costs associated with road repairs etc from having few drivers on the road. We paid for that IN FULL but our former governor scrapped the project. We still had to cover the cost, but now we don't get the train and the rail will be constructed AROUND Wisconsin our State. The corruption and political stupidity is astounding and incredibly frustrating, especially since most people don't know about the project.
I don’t ever miss Trump, but I absolutely love Seth’s Trump impression, he’s far more enjoyable.

That Foxconn thing brings back some bad memories when a small business I worked for was bought out. Bunch of suits sitting around trying to figure out what to do and wasting tons of money while all of us workers left one by one. In the end they wrote the acquisition off as a loss (after buying a new building that remained 3/4 empty for at least 3 years).
Sad af, clearly the idea of tax breaks the GOP keeps pushing doesn’t actually work.

Even the hospital rooms have the names of rich people on them to show us peons how wonderful they are. It’s all about their arrogance. If they’d just pay their taxes, hospitals, libraries, etc, wouldn’t have to go hat in hand to beg for a few bucks. Eg. the hospital where my son is, CHOC, looks on the inside like it’s owned by Disney. The hospital where my daughter goes for her treatment, CHLA, has floors that are named after corporations, like Chick-fil-a floor. 🤮

My village, Orland Park, a suburb of Chicago, has forced many families out of our neighborhood, and they got demolition orders from judges, but then they get in arguments with each other over who will build what, and some properties are left vacant for more than ten years.

Here’s the deal with Foxconn. They are a seriously big player in manufacturing and assembly. That’s why their biggest client is Apple. They wouldn’t promise a factory without actually wanting to do it. The reason they keep changing the plan in Wisconsin is they cannot find enough skilled working to actually make the products they need. They’re not doing fine assembly like for iPhone. They’re literally doing LCD panels and they STILL can’t find enough skilled people to start that program. In Asia they can find 100k skilled workers who will live on the Foxconn campus to work 12 hour shifts. Won’t happen in America. Sure you can complain how working like that is unethical but when 100k workers willingly sign up for those jobs you should really start to wonder why America is left behind.

Milwaukee is still trying to get out from under the "stick it to Milwaukee" -Miller Park- American Family Field _stadium construction_ taxes that were, by all rights, supposed to have been sunsetted already, yet for some funny reason keep getting extended. I'm not hopeful for the rest of the state ever escaping this white elephant.
