  • Come join us for our Hong Kong hotel room tour where we show you just how tiny a space we've been living in for the past week and a half. Space is at a premium in Hong Kong and unless you've got a big budget you'll find more often than not your hotel room is smaller than almost anywhere else in the world . In terms of location we ended up choosing Kowloon over Hong Kong Island because we found a better deal online. We stayed at Bridal Tea House Hotel Yaumatei: bit.ly/2nbwo5u

    Hong Kong Hotel Room Tour Travel Video Transcript:
    The question today is can you guess where we are by the size of our hotel room?
    You know what? Either I'm a giant or I'm staying in Hong Kong (香港).
    Haha. Ding ding ding.
    Hong Kong (香港).
    Okay, so for today's video we thought it would be fun to give you a tour of our hotel because Hong Kong (香港) has hardly any space. Like space is in high demand. Yeah, so everything is tiny. Hotel rooms in Hong Kong (香港) are really unique. Really small and we've going to give you a full tour.
    Well come on in.
    Welcome to the room. It is a bit of a tight squeeze because our shoes are kind of blocking the door.
    So imagine coming in here with your luggage. We have two giant suitcases plus our backpacks with all of our gear. And yeah, you don't have a whole lot of space left.
    So first we'll show you the sleeping quarters. So shuffle along. There is a lot of shuffling down here.
    So this is like a little aisle. Get into bed. Ha.
    So yeah and in case you haven't noticed. If you're someone who tosses and turns this is going to be a bit of a problem for you. Yeah, it is a good thing you're against the wall. I mean it is kind of hard to roll off because like my body doesn't actually really fit here. I was trying to grab stuff to pack and I was like getting stuck in this tiny space.
    Um but also another thing worth mentioning is that single beds here are really narrow. Like this isn't the size of your average single bed. It is like compressed.
    Which brings me to the next section. This is where we kind of just threw our suitcases and we're filming this right now because we're packed and ready to go to our next destination.
    Yeah but you should have seen it when we had everything open. It was a disaster zone. It was an explosion. It was basically like our suitcases threw up and it was like a mountain of clothes. Argh.
    So right now I'm standing in between the beds in order to film Sam.
    Okay so we're going to go check out the bathroom but before we do that I have to show you the world's tinniest little desk area.
    Yeah, that is the funny thing. It is supposed to be storage area for the guests but they have hotel stuff in there. Yeah, it is basically no extra room whatsoever. Yeah, so anyways bathroom time.
    Alright we're going into the bathroom. So let's check this out. And before we even go in I'm going to say like this is a massive bathroom for Hong Kong (香港). Yes.
    Normally, I'll show you once we go in what a normal bathroom looks like but if you come in here you see that we have our own toilet with its own area. Towel rack.
    So yeah, this is what a budget hotel looks like in Hong Kong (香港).
    Yeah. And here is the mirror, the sink, windows. We've stayed in hotel rooms before in Hong Kong (香港) with no windows. You're just surrounded by walls and you don't know what time of day it is.
    So there you have it. That is the grand tour. So if you come to Hong Kong (香港) don't expect a whole lot of space.
    Also because people don't have a whole lot of space here in Hong Kong (香港) many people um hang their clothes out to dry outside their windows.
    Okay, so in terms of price point we paid sixty four dollars a night here. Of course you can spend more and get a bigger hotel room but I think this your average kind of standard middle of the road budget type of hotel. And that is the price you're going to be looking at.
    Anyways, hope you enjoyed this tour and if you're coming to Hong Kong (香港) do temper your expectations. It is going to be quite a bit smaller than what you're used to in the rest of Asia.
    This is part of our Travel in Hong Kong video series showcasing Hong Kong food, Hong Kong culture and Hong Kong cuisine.

    In the future you can try out this hotel called Shamrock hotel, literally next to Jordan MTR... the size is much bigger than this room but still a little smaller than usual hotel rooms around the world! Also the beds are def bigger than this i guess, like a legit super single?? and there is a nice and clean washroom and a bath tub to bathe in!

    Last year my family and I stayed at the Cosmo hotel, near the racetrack. They gave a free mobile smart phone to use.. Free global phone calls and mobile data. Passing some shops and eateries, the 'handy' would alert us to special offers etc. budget hotel with good size rooms, only slightly out of central HK. Great city. loved it.

    I'm a hongkonger who and I'm so suprised as i thought hotel rooms are always big and luxury 😂😂(at least the outlook)
    my room is super small too, it can just fit my 2.5" width bed and a desk, but i still got some spaces in the living room to place my computer, bookshelf etc. sounds weird right ,the shape(?) of the flat is also a factor that makes us can't make use of the entire flat well

      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Thanks for sharing that about your room. I'm amazed at how efficient people are at using small spaces in bigger cities in Asia. I think having a smaller apartment means you're more careful with what you buy and allows you to spend more money on experiences such as eating out and traveling which is a good thing.

    Yes they're so small. When I stayed at a hotel in HK, it was so small I couldn't stay inside other than sleeping but then when I go out, it's stifling hot and crowded. Two extremes I'm not used to.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find heading to the outskirts of Hong Kong or the many parks is necessary for a longer stay. Otherwise, the crowds, noise and lack of space can get to you a bit.

    I know what you mean when you say "wet bathroom". I stayed in a place in the Little India area of Singapore that just had tile and a drain next to the toilet and sink along with a shower head. When I used the shower head it sprayed all over the toilet and sink since they were in such close proximity.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha! Yeah, that is definitely one of those. We're quite used to them now. Actually it's not a bad way to clean your sink and toilet if you think about ;)

    Hi Samuel and Audrey, our entire family love your videos! We are wondering what the name was for this hotel? we are planning a trip to Asia soon hopefully including HK. What is the average price point for this hotel room and which neighborhood is it located at? Looking forward to your next video!!!

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much! That is really exciting to hear about your trip. Where else do you plan to go? We stayed at Bridal Tea House nearby Yau Ma Tei station on Kowloon. It is a really good location as you're walking distance to some night markets, Kowloon park, the Peninsula hotel, avenue of stars and the star ferry. Another area to consider would be Mong Kong (Kowloon) or Causeway Bay (Hong Kong Island) especially if you're interested in shopping. This coming Friday we'll be doing a big 27 minute tips video for Hong Kong where we talk in detail about budget tips for visiting the city.

    Interesting and informative. I think it would be nice to also tell us which area (with a reference of a HK map) the hotel location is and how far it is to some landscapes (esp. you guys have mentioned in your video). Thanks.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! That is a great suggestion. Where we stayed was on Kowloon nearby Yau Ma Tei station. The location was great because it was walking distance to the Temple Street Night Market, Jade Market and Ladies Market along with Kowloon park. It was also a bit longer walk to Star Ferry and Avenue of Stars. I recommend this area highly along with Mong Kok on Kowloon and in terms of Hong Kong Island Causeway Bay is good area to stay if you're interested in shopping and entertainment.

    That's pretty tiny! Smallest room I've ever had was in Berlin of all places! Probably smaller than yours, but it was a single. Small rooms in NYC & Tokyo too. Tbh, I don't mind too much, because I'm hardly ever there. =)

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! As small as this one was it is easily the biggest place I've had in Hong Kong...haha Sometimes I think having a tiny room (or one that isn't that comfortable) actually encourages you to spend more time exploring the city which isn't a bad thing.

    • @QWERTYOP80
      @QWERTYOP80 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Although I do think if you're staying somewhere for a while, it's nice to have somewhere nice to come back to! I tend to do city breaks - sorta 3 or 4 nights-ish so with those, I don't care too much about the hotel. But I was in Tokyo in November for 10 nights and I REALLY appreciated having a nice 4 star place to come home to!... Although the room was still small!

      I can totally understand that. We've stayed in some tiny places before so we were okay with it but it wasn't exactly comfortable. Our biggest issue at this place was we had some really noisy neighbors and with paper thin walls we didn't get a good sleep.
