Mark, two days ago I bought your "NIKON D500 QUICK START GUIDE" and yesterday I used it to set up my D500. Today I went to my friends backyard in Littleton, CO and took 300 pictures of a humming bird with my 200-500 lens and they came out great! What a coincidence that you posted your excellent humming bird video the same day! Thanks for all you do - you are a great help and my pictures have never looked better.
you are not only a good photographer but your love and fascination for animals and nature shows. nice story telling as well. really enjoy each of your videos.
Mark, I just want to thank you for your content, your real and your not controversial on anything. You bring your viewers on a journey. Thank you for refreshing content; Your a breath of fresh air. Much of what we end up experiance from others is rehashed photography tips. Thanks for just being a good human being. ADDED COMMENT: what is photography? When I got into photography all pros preached it's not the gear. Nowadays all the arguments, all the posturing, many photographer's present our community in not much of a flattering light. The world is full of contreversy anger and hate. You take us away to the art of photography. Art has passion, a vision a hunger to share a moment, share Images that tell a story that bring out the best in man. If your a photo journalist you may show the worst in man and why we should shun the darkness. You sir bring us light. I dont know mark, I'm not a fanboy, but being a photographer myself, when I see something worth sharing, I'm compelled to do so. Keep it up!
For me, your channel is an oasis of calm, sanity and beauty in an otherwise crazy world. I've run out of superlatives to describe your work but, once again, thank you Mark.
I am Egyptian and because of you I bought my D500 and lenses 50 ,35 ,17-55 ,55-300 and I hope to have my 200-500 all of this I did in 2 days only keep watching your videos and angry photographer are very incredible persons I hope one day you can come to Egypt and visit the pyramids and Luxor and sharm alsheik and give the world your incredible photos for the ancient Egyptians ....... Really thanks toooooooo much
All I can say is "Thanks" You are a modernized Marty Stouffer and a little bit Bob Ross. I feel the same love of nature watching you as I used to feel watching Wild America. This is now my new favorite video.
Epic photography. Never seen humming birds so closely with such a clarity. Heart warming to see the bird having landed on to ur hand n clicking it as well. Everything speechless. God bless u Mark
What a phenomenal experience you had. I just bought the Nikon D500 and am waiting for it to arrive. I love shooting hummers. Such beautiful birds. Ty for sharing.
Your images are so beautiful and I love hearing how enthusiastic you are telling us the stories of your shoots. Thank you for making this a lovely experience.
This video makes my heart so happy! Your shots are nothing short of perfection! I’ve tried for years to get hummingbird photos half this nice and I’m at a loss. I have a D500 but it just doesn’t like me. Thank you for sharing your expertise, it really made my day ❤❤❤
good to hear this! I also got the 70-300 mm AF P lens FX (as mentioned earlier). Do you have any advice or experience re that lens? I broke my 70-300 mm AF S lens. While it was insured, I couldn't get another one (AF S), so it wasn't compatible with my D300 (or so I was told) so although I could hardly afford it (not insured and not broken), I bought the D500. It has taken me quite a while to adjust to the D500. When it is in focus, it is really sharp so I'm not sure if there is back or front focussing but I took some pelican photos and they were all slightly out of focus -- the last one was in focus. I think I accidentally had touched the manual focus ring which overrides AF. It is almost in the same position where I used to hold the AF -S lens. Oops! unfortunately I could not take hummingbird photos this summer due to terrible smoke from forest fires. The hummingbirds in your photos are very tame or at least non skittish. Is it because they are so used to humans or is it because they don't have much contact with humans? Again, I greatly enjoyed your video.
Fantastic videos, Mark. I love your enthusiasm for birding and photography. I have watched birds seriously for about 37 yrs. but truly since I was 5 or 6 (I’m 57, now). I have had the pleasure of seeing over 150 species of hummingbird and just love your videos. I am new to photography (1 1/2 yrs.) and use a D500 and D810 for still photos but always watch to learn more. Thank you so much for sharing your images.
Thank you. That is very nice to say and I am envious of your hummingbird list! That is amazing. I've seen 7 species. You have two great cameras. I had a D810 for a long time before getting my D850. Have fun out there with your gear.
Mark, I have seen several of your videos which have all been fantastic. This hummingbird video was my favorite so far. The bird feeding right from your hand is amazing. Can't wait to view the rest of your videos. Keep up the good work!!!
A marvelous study of these amazing little birds. This film ranks up there with some of the best wild life films I've ever seen. You have a great delivery with an obvious enthusiasm which always comes through. Keep up the great work it's inspirational.

Thank you so much Mark for making my day. I live in Australia and of course we don’t get hummers, but they are one of favourites. I can still remember the sheer joy the first time I shot hummers in Canada a few years ago near Lac Le Jeune. Always enjoy your videos.
You never fail to provide an entertaining video combined with witty commentary and beautiful images. These beautiful images from those Nikons confirms why I won't be switching to Sony anytime soon. I love my D500 and Nikkor 200-500mm
Tremendous shots, Mark. Thanks for taking us along! I'm envious of your hummers. It's nice when they'll take their time on a flower. Gives you plenty of time to set up.
Amazing photo shoot Mark! Hummingbirds are great because they are not too afraid of humans, they will let you very close if your are calm. Not so many birds like this out there!
That’s my ultimate goal is to finally get amazing photos like this. I have Anna’s hummingbirds in my backyard but I just can’t get that perfect shot. But I’m going to read your instructions and try it out again!
all i gotta say is CRAZZZYYYYYY!! you got some crazy shots!! i can picture you in the center of all this just pointing and shooting, turn , point and shoot, turn, point and shoot, and crazy speeds 1/3200 - 1/8000 !!! man you rocked those shots!!!
You nailed it. I was all over the place shooting at all sorts of settings. I had my D850 with the 500f4 mounted on a tripod and the D500 with the 200-500 in my hands. I was constantly bouncing back and forth. Was so much fun. Thanks for the compliments!
This is an amazing video! Superb! I think that humming bird could tell you were a friendly good human that could be trusted, you've got a good aura! Awesome Mark.
I just bought the D Quick Start Guide!!! Beautiful shots and video Mark! It is amazing the hummingbirds come back to the exact same location every year. I am hoping that one day I can go on one of your photography workshops down in Florida! Keep up the great work!
An awesome approach to wildlife photography. I really admire your patience and dedication to capturing something authentic and not relying on any sort of baiting or artificial lures. Best of luck!
Mark I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Hummingbirds are always amazing and you captured some breathtaking videos and photos, also that hummingbird resting on your palm!! That was really cool. Thanks for this video, it inspires me a lot.
I've never seen such detail of a bird before, and it couldn't be more beautiful than in a hummingbird. However, I am in Saudi Arabia where we have sunbirds, and I have recently acquired a new Nikon D750. They're similar to hummingbirds but bigger. I'm planning to try photographing them in a few months time. Maybe I need a better lens, but that'll have to wait. Meanwhile I'm hoping the Nikor 80-300 will get me some good pics. Wish me luck! You're an inspiration.
Awesome video action Mark. You have some superb photos here. And what incredible moments with that cute little bird sitting on your hand. This is a really inspiring video. Thanks for taking us along.
Simply outstanding video of my favorite photo subject. You continue to impress me with your skills and love of wildlife. Thanks for sharing your experiences Mark.
Absolutely beautiful stunning videography and stills Mark, you set the standard for those beautiful humming bird varieties, I don't live in an area of the uk 🇬🇧 where it's possible for to get any where near of these awesome looking birds, but I am to get my hands on the Nikon 810, or 850, can't wait. Thanks 🙏 again Mark.🤗
Incredible captures Mark. The clarity of details are amazing. Thanks for sharing this. By the way, I. Bill, used most of your settings on my D850 and am getting much sharper images. I still don't have a 500mm prime lens yet but maybe since Nikon is coming out their new 500mm F5.6 prime lens for around $3,600 I may get one of those once I see enough enough reviews. Keep posting the videos. We love watching them. Bill & Deb
That is great to hear. I always like hearing that people are getting good results. The D850 can be hard to get the hang of. The 500MM 5.6 is going to be a heck of a lens. I can't wait to try one out!
