Wow, Im new to euc, it didn’t make sense in the beginning but after seeing the whole video it totally does. Im glad you shared this video, you have to have previous snowboarding experience to understand, I ate it one because I was flat on snowboard. Did a bunch of research and learned that you have to choose your edge or your board will chose it for you. Thanks for sharing.
Really well put. Carving is intentional, controlled wobble. The snowboarding comparison is spot on. One other benefit I've noticed... it reduces fatigue as well. When I ride straight (usually because of where I'm riding, or traffic conditions.) I get really tired feet after not much time. Carving cures that.
Appreciate the tip! Don't know if you saw my post on euc crash group or not but I got real bad deceleration wobbles about two weeks ago with no gear. Hit the ground going about 30mph in a t-shirt and shorts. New full moto gear arrived from Amazon yesterday! Lesson learned lol
Solid advice my dude, especially on the very subtle weight transfer. I used to ride stiff legged even into turn and nothing is scarier than a speed wobble in a turn. Now I am constantly shifting weight.... not even really visible to the eye but can be felt in the feet and legs, makes all the difference.
My pedal picked up a low hanging fern yesterday, spun me off like a spinning top....luckily no damage to me. So watch out for overgrown weeds lurking at low level.....
Thanks for bringing that up. I'm totally new to EUCs and learning from other ppls mistakes. Thats helpful to me because I'm learning about some instances where people have been kr almost were severely injured. Its become apparent to me that this is a machine that needs to be respected. Lol
One exception to always carving is when riding over bumpy surfaces. If a wheel encounters dips or bumps while turning, the lateral force at the contact patch will oscillate as the wheel partially bounces up and down, which can trigger a wobble.
@@greenwave819 - consider the extreme case of a a wheel bouncing while turning. When in the air, there is no lateral force, and in the middle of impact, a lot of lateral force, and the lateral force will cycle with the bouncing. Even a partial bounce will affect the lateral load due to contact patch flexing.
I have found that I don't have to really "carve" to keep total control. For me it's more of a slight shift right and left making gentle arcs as I ride briskly. 🤙
Also it's interesting how different things work for different people. I was getting wobbles when slowing down as fast as I can. A lot of people talk about lowering your center of gravity. Didn't work for me. What works for me is standing up straight and tall and keeping my back very straight and that almost completely eliminated speed wobbles when hard braking.
Same for me... stand straight... keep lower legs in full contact with EUC... Just become an extension of the EUC and sway to control it... If there's no gap between leg and EUC, there's no space for wheel wobble, which isn't instantly controlled by your legs...
I can agree on the snowboard flat, I think it is good comparison. But riding EUC is defenately more like skiing than snowboarding :P Thank you for the video.
I get what he's saying tho. Having constant contact with a controlling portion of your device is keeping control 99% of the time. It's kinda like when you ride a bike, and you always make balance adjustments. If you were to let go of the handlebars, you need speed and weight shift input to control the bike. Ya don't just let it fly away with your ass and crash! Lol
I actually don't find it is. The only similarities are your actual stance. Beyond that, EUC feels incredibly similar to snowboarding in terms of its learning curve, and also how you ride. Reason being - when you are skiing, you actually have two disjointed limbs, controlling their own skis. You have two separate points of control - identical to skating and roller blading. On the other hand a snowboard is a single board with both feet strapped in - a single point of control that your whole body has to move with. You can't move your feet, and you only have 2 edges. EUC is exactly the same. Both feet are strapped in to a single point of control, and your tire essentially has 2 edges. Your body may be oriented forward instead of sideways, but to me EUC feels significantly more like snowboarding than skiing.
I snowboard and ride EUC too. I completely understand what you are talking about. I had a feeling that this is the solution, thank you for the simple explanation. Excellent!
Its the same with skiing. Advanced skiers are always on one edge, carving, and linking their turns edge to edge. Thats how you never cross your skiis. Your weight is always on one ski, on one edge.
Was going to ask you about why the wheel gets wobbly, but this answers it. I'm not carving, I'm just trying to ride it more or less straight. Will work on carving now. Thank you for another sage advice.
Really? It's the as a MTB! If you're referring how to remove the wheel from the unicycle go to the manufacturer's website and look up the instructions.
Chooch, I've now successfully completely torn down my v12 ht to replace the tube! Have some governor XL pads from sai on the way. I'm sketched out going 25 or above without power pads lol
Fuck I love night riding on my V12HT. Fastest ride yet the other night. No traffic on roads at 2 in the morning. You have the whole street to yourself to carve up. Being a heavier rider I'm still kinda careful to try and not go over about 25mph. That's plenty fast enough for me! (:
I just upgraded to the Lnyx on my second day I got the speed wobble and now recovering for 2 weeks. That was my worst accident since I've been riding for 2 years. Be careful guys the speed wobble is real and deadly. Going fast is not for everyone so please be careful.
putting a lowering kit on my lynx as i write this. The lynx is fast but it will get the gnarliest wobbles. You gotta over exaggerate every movement and get very low on the lynx to make it not wobble. Hope you get well soon. ill update if the lowering kit helps. Cheers!
Your doing a lot to expand the sport man! I come from a Skateboarding, bmx and atv background. I can't wait to get enough confidence on my wheel to do half the crap your doing .
With snowboarding it’s also sketchy yo ride straight when the mt been used a lot in a day because the groves where people are carving will catch on your board and most likely make a beginner fall, that’s why when I start d learning I kept my feet at an angle where I can ride switch and I love it! Also want to get a YOOk so bad!!!!
You r right in most points all the way, Chooch.Just dont forget the wheel wants to do its things. Only for the rider is to prevent it is not to go off the head. (feet) Then its good. Just let the wheel do it shit, just prevent it go off limits, thats your legs for, and all gear. Over do it, experience the concequencies. Simply put just like that that is that. Ez go, ez down. Cheers dude. :)
I imagine manufacturers could implement something in the firmware that could sense a speed wobble and be able to self correct by making slight corrections upon it happening. This would be a game changer. I don’t see why they can’t look into this and make it happen.
Bro, i am thinking about getting a v12 but i have never ridden before in my life. I am not sure if i should go with the bigger cycle or the smaller cycle since i am a beginner. Your thoughts please!
I have been riding my V12HT with tire sealant like yours I was able to go fast in past rides but this past few days my EUC has been starting to get wobbles at around 18mph, wondering if this might play a factor or tire pressure. What do you run your tire pressure on the V12HT? How do you know if wheel is out of balance?, Seen your crash on last video glad your ok
try lower psi on the v12 ht, I ride mine at about 27 but it does affect range. Also when you put the slime in you need to ride it right after or the slime will all clump and dry in one spot and make it wobble. My EXN did that before I put the shinko 244 tire on it. And thank ya about the crash!
I just had serious wheel wobble at around 30mph. I've notice the wheel is not as stable since pumping up the tire pressure from 15psi to 30psi. Maybe I should bring is back down? I weigh 235#.
Chooch love you bro and not in a gay way lol. You have saved my life and I bet saved alot of other life's. After that I went on line and found your videos and you teach me how to ride much safer. so i guess what i'm trying to say is thank you if your ever in portland oregon i hope i get a chance to thank you in person
@@michaelfeenaughty1311 I'm terrified to learn, but my strategy is to get a shopping cart for something to lean on and drag it to a park and fall a lot on grass. I learned my pogo stick on grass and it saved me a lot of trauma.
Do a search for how to ride EUC videos, and watch those. The recommendation for some of those is to learn to ride (and dismount) using support to mount and launch, before attempting free mount (no support). If you already know how to ride an EUC, then you can just push an EUC forwards and step on to free mount. The how to ride videos don't go much into detail about how to turn. At slow speed, you can extend your arms outwards and arm flail to twist the wheel to steer it for balance and direction, flail left to steer right and vice versa. This is taught for pedaled unicycles, and I've seen it shown in EUC videos, but not taught. At sufficient speed, an EUC will become stable and self-balancing within reason, enough that a beginner can ride in a straight line without having to focus on balance. My V8F becomes stable at 6 to 8 mph. Once at stable speed, you can learn to tilt steer (inner foot down, outer foot up). At first just tilt small amounts to see how the wheel responds. Next try doing small side to side weave patterns. Then try doing large radius turns. How much you lean your body versus how much you tilt the wheel depends on speed and turning radius. For slow speed tight turns, you barely lean, but tilt the wheel a lot. For higher speed turns, you generally lean (or hang off) more than you tilt.
Thanks for the tip. Especially the subtle weight shift (carving not always desirable). The analogy with snowboard though doesn't make sense. The mechanics is different. Flat boats with two distinct edges vs rotating wheel with subtle point of contact. I don't know the mechanics explanation of the wobble but if I find out I might come back to update this comment.
Keep your knees and your hips slightly bent and then go hit speed bumps at speed and you will see how well the V 12 works without any suspension. Also I run my tire pressure a little bit under 20 psi. I am 165 pounds. Originally I was running at 30 psi and that is way too firm and I got more wobbles.
