  • The 30A YH11047A Li-ion Battery Management System Protection Board has two versions. The 3S and the more expensive 4S. They looked identical to me, so I ordered the cheaper one expecting to be able to use it as a 4S.
    I couldn't but I did.

    I think 102 on an SMT resistor means 1K, not 100k and it might work a little better if you remove the extra 1K resistor next to the 100k you added. Just compare the two boards again to see what I mean. Well spotted, you've done the hard yards, might order a couple and try the hack myself with the "spare" 1k resistor on the board. Cheers.

    Heya I loved the video man 👍 I have a question regarding my 4s BMS, I just installed one for my 4s 4p battery and I got 16.40 volts out of the BMS which is good but whenever I plug my battery to a load the battery immediately drops to 11.16 volts and but it drops to 4.8 volts when I start using the load with the battery. Can you tell me what's causing this? The BMS and battery cells are brand new.

    Thanks for the video, very interesting. I've been testing a few of these 3s 12v bms's and one in particular i purchased turned out to be totally unusable. Do you have a link to the product on Ali-Express?

    hi, what are the three free pins for? VH VM VL ?? THANK YOU

    • @gernhartreinholzen3992
      @gernhartreinholzen3992 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      VL goes between plus of cell1 and minus of cell 2 (~4V)
      VM goes between plus of cell 2 and minus of cell 3 (~8V)
      VH goes between plus of cell 3 and minus of cell 4 (~12V)
      And of course, minus of cell 1 goes to B- (0V) and plus of cell 4 goes to B+ (~16V)

    May be a quality control issue. Chip fails on one part so this circuit is used as a 3S.
    This is done quite a bit with CPU/GPUs after testing the failed test chips work well enough to be sold as less powerful ones for less. This saves production costs because only one chip is design made

    You missed a thing in the schematic: pin 10 (SEL) is connected to VSS in the 3-cell schematic and to VDD in the 4-cell version...
    This video helped me solve my problem with the 3S board... I connected VL to the first cells plus, VM to the second and VH to the third. It turns out VL should not be used for the 3S version. internally on the board pin 15 is connected to the third cell. so you just need to connect VM to the first and VH to the second...
    Seller on aliexpress had NO IDEA. Told me I should look it up on google...

    You missed something. Right next to the 102 resistor you added there is a resistor with the same value that does not exist on the 4S variant. All you had to do is take the 102 resistor from that pad and move it to the left.

    • @jhbonarius
      @jhbonarius 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed, I just found this out. It's connected to pin 11 (control) which switches between 3S (connected to pin 7 VSS) and 4S (connected to pin 16 VDD) mode.

    Dear friend!
    Please help me! I saw your video about the YH11047A BMS modules. Here you are talking about 3s30A and 4s30a bms. Since I don't understand your language, I don't know what the solution is! For me, only this red, small-sized panel fits in the Bosch drill! I would need 3s30a bms.! I already ordered 3 pieces from China from different dealers, but in each case they sent the 4s30a version!!!! These do not work with 3 18650 batteries! In the video, you talk about converting a 4s30s bms module to a 3s30a,.re? Can this conversion be done at home? In this, I am asking for your help as to where and at what value smd components should be implanted!!! I looked at the marameters of the S-8254A chip, and it shows the wiring difference on page 19, but I'm a mechanical engineer, but I have an electrical engineer friend who, if I get your help, maybe we can get it done!! So the question is, what needs to be removed and which part needs to be implanted at which point.
    Best regards: István

    You should add a note in your description that you're not using the device correctly, which is why you're not seeing the voltages you expect.

    Respected,
    The problem is the following. When the machine is pressed by the switch quickly, it just moves and stops, and when it is pressed slowly gradually, it accelerates slowly and works. Is it possible to solve this problem? If they are not in the cell itself because they are not electric current 3.7V 2.2A?
    Thanks in advance!

    U did th mod in th board thts good., bt I even we wld appropriate more if u can program these board's chips by modding overdischarge voltage frm 2.3 to 3volt per cell.
    lithium cell shld not be discharged less than 3 volt , so why these BMS cuts off @2.3 hurting th batteries , I don't knw.
    Could u do tht mod pls?

      Hi... this is a protection-only module. It will cut a connected load if the voltages on any cell are outside of the safe range..

    • @MrBrymstond
      @MrBrymstond 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something was bugging me and I just used the 102 resistor, but you keep saying 100K which is 100,000KΩ when the 2 means you add 2 zeros to 10Ω so 102 = 1000Ω or 1kΩ. You can use anything above the rated like you have, but less and less current will be applied

    • @crazytom
      @crazytom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a balanced charger. Only protection.

    • @MrBrymstond
      @MrBrymstond 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2S = 4.2v times 2=8.4v, 3S = 4.2 times 3=12.6v and 4S = 4.2 times 4=16.8v and shuts down power to save the batteries from dying... You still need to balance each cell to 4.2v so they don't die and discharging using another method.

  • @DrTune
    @DrTune 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No you're totally wrong! You're mistaken about how this works :-) The four fets are in parallel pairs for lower RdsOn, a pair for charge and a pair for discharge) as per the schematic in the datasheet. The three battery pins aren't outputs! They're *inputs* for cell monitoring. You won't get any *output* on them..

    • @DrTune
      @DrTune 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok look the way it works is that it's a safety chip that monitors each cell but it doesn't _charge_ them; it has two pairs of Pfets (they only show one in the datasheet schematic but putting two in parallel lowers the on resistance so increases the current capacity; but there's effectively two large fets on there; they're kinda "back to back" so one is for carrying the charge current and one the discharge current (they may have wired 3:1 instead of 2:2 if the discharge current is > charge current but you get the idea). The chip itself only monitors each cell it doesn't even try to drive those pins, for the purpose of killing the power (turning off the fets) if you try to overcharge or overdischarge. That's it. There is no charging function in there- you're supposed to use an external balancing charger (which also has a connection to each cell for monitoring and _also_ balancing by slowly draining any that are too high). Almost all the charge/dischage current goes through the main connector/fets of course. Putting a voltage on it and measuring the sense pins (as you are) is meaningless because they're not driven.

      @crazytom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dr Tune you are correct.

    hi, nice video. whats the charging voltage and amp for 3s and 4s

    • @crazytom
      @crazytom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's protection only. You'll need a balanced charge module. In fact, most balanced charge modules do not operate as balanced chargers, more like "balanced dis-chargers". Bit of deceit within the li-ion charging industry.

    Hello, sorry for my English, im from Spain.
    I tried to convert the 3S YH11047A plate into the 4S plate. By removing the resistance of 0 Ω going on the leg 12 of the chip and moving the resistance of 102 Ω to leg 10 of the chip, I think that is as you say in the video (the numbers of the legs according to the YH11047A datasheet).
    In the P + and P- outputs I obtained a value of about 9V and not 14v as in outputs B + and B-, so it does NOT work properly for 4s.
    It is difficult to solder the SMD resistors with an electric soldering iron, nose if the problem is there or is that you have to change something more of the plate to convert it.
    In the datasheet they speak of SEL pin, I do not understand very well if it is the signal that receives or something else has to be changed.

    • @crazytom
      @crazytom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does the BMS cut the load at 9V? (most BMS protection modules disconnect the -ve terminal) If not, then either the connections from the module to the cells are faulty or the module is faulty.
