Its disappointing how often a laptop is judged on how well it plays game to be considered a good machine. There are people who actually use it for work and not to play games. I own a 2011 11 inch matchbook air and love it. Im a professor at a local university and I can tell you how many times I was glad I bought the machine. It serves me well for all the work I do, Its size is perfect, I can't even tell I have it in my backpack sometimes, the battery lasts so long and is so much fun to use. Don't put them down, I understand you need the twin turbo , half ton worth thousands of dollars but there is an actual market for lightweight small computers. Just sayin´

I bought the 11 inch 2014 air right after it came out when I was 14 years old. It took me 4 years to save up for it and it was an amazing computer for young me. 2 years later the screen broke and instead of fixing it I got a 15 inch acer. Now that I'm in university, carrying around such a big laptop is annoying and impractical, so I decided to get my Mac fixed. It has its quirks, but I love it. The screen is hilarious, the bezels are chunky, but carrying it around is great. For some of my classes I'll only take the computer with me and leave my backpack in my room. Battery life took a little bit of a hit sitting in a closet for 3 years, but it still lasts all day. All in all it's a decent computer. For anyone wondering how the keyboard is, I just finished typing a pretty huge paper on this thing and it didn't feel cramped at all. I do find web browsing to feel cramped vertically, although that's pretty easy to fix by going fullscreen.
I bought an 11 inch Macbook Air in 2014, and still use it now, love it. To me it's what I'd use a tablet for, but is actually not frustratingly limited the way tablets are from a software perspective (which is why I've never ever owned a tablet, and still can't bring myself to get one).
I’ve got the exact same computer... it’s been lovely every day for the last four years, except the 4 gigs of RAM and 128 gig ssd... they’re a bit limiting.

I just watched this video on my 2015 11" MacBook AIr that I bought on eBay for $150, in absolutely immaculate condition. For web browsing, basic word processing and TH-cam video streaming? I couldn't be more happy with it for the money I paid. I honestly don't care nearly as much about the size of the bezel as Luke obviously does, the screen is bright and beautiful and perfect for watching video. And this keyboard is a joy to type on, the feel is lovely and the backlighting crisp and even. As someone whose first Macintosh computer was a 1991 Mac Portable, the size, weight and power of the 11" MacBook Air is just this side of magic.
Last summer when I was on holiday in California, I bought a 2013 11.6'' macbook air with the base i5, 128gb ssd and 8gb of ram for $300 off craigslist. It has very little cosmetic flaws and is much nicer to browse the web on than my retina iPad mini. Like you said, the air is not powerful at all but the ssd makes it very fast to use. That makes a big difference.
I bought a 11 inch one of these with 256gig SSD as new two years ago for around $700 Australian and I use it everyday as my take to work laptop, it’s absolutely perfect for my needs and does everything I want perfectly, Netflix, Stan, some forum stuff, TH-cam and even some light audio editing. I love mine and will keep it a while yet.
Great video! I still have my Macbook 11-inch (Mid 2012) since 2013 and it does work pretty well up to this day. One problem that you will have with Macs is the battery as it gradually decreases in performance after a few years or so but it’s totally normal though. Good thing it’s replaceable. Another thing is the Magsafe power adapter as it can easily get broken and malfunction; I’ve replaced mine 4 times already but those weren’t original Apple chargers so that’s why it didn’t last long. Don’t use it for longer periods of time plugged in to a power source when the battery is full and avoid using it in hot conditions are the key to a long Mac lifespan. 👍🏻
I bought two of these 11 inch MacBook Airs just recently for my parents, at $250 each. Their computer, a Compaq (please don't shoot me) running Vista (please don't draw and quarter me) finally died and I realized I could get them two MacBook Airs for very little. Luke, unlike yours, the ones I got were in great shape and they have been perfect for my folks. They are learning the ways of Apple and are really enjoying their new computers. No, they aren't running LogicPro or Photoshop, but Facebook is critical to grandparents. Was it worth it? You bet it was.
Depends on what you want it for. You don't need a lot of power to browse the web and check emails. My wife is still using her 2009 21" iMac. I put an SSD in it this summer which helped it a lot though the diisk speed is half what I am getting out of my other computers with the same drive in it. For what she does, emails and Facebook it is good enough.
Watching this video with my MacBook Air 13inch 2014 sitting on my lap. Definitely worth it and definitely capable for my computer science university needs. Can’t say the same for my older Windows laptop.

I got the early 2015 MacBook Air 11" for 400 bucks for the upgraded model with 1.6Ghz dual core, 4GB ram, 256GB SSD, Intel Iris 6000 graphics... I am using it for a year now.. besides the small screen and the dumb aspect ratio this machine is serving me good for daily tasks and also for some music production (with which I encountered some problems recently which make me wanna upgrade to a new MacBook.. but still it is freaking impressive for a 5 year old second hand computer.. it just keeps running smoothly!! Damn the longevity of Apples products is really impressive! Good video tho :)
2014 11" MacBook Air owner here. I have the exact same configuration as seen in this video. I paid around $400 for it about a year ago (but mine's in much better condition). He's right about the screen - it sucks. But for a secondary system, it's still pretty great. Web browsing is still as smooth as a hot knife through butter. It still performs wonderfully for TH-cam and movies (except for the horrendous screen). It plays older and/or lighter games pretty well (err, until Catalina came along and killed 32-bit support). Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, GTA:SA, and Minecraft (on medium settings) all come to mind. And it even edits 1080p video pretty well in iMovie. I occasionally use mine as a desktop hooked up to an external 1440p monitor and it's still up to most lighter tasks I throw at it. All in all, if you do light stuff, it still makes a decent daily driver, and a great secondary or on-the-road system if you have something more powerful at home that does all the heavy lifting.
I really want Apple to bring back a really small form factor Macbook again in 2021. I loved the idea of a tiny Mac... the 12 inch was such a beautiful design, it's just a shame it was such a terrible and unreliable performer. With the dawn of Apple Sillicon, let's hope something like the 11/12 inch can make a comeback!

Today is August 15th, 2022...My laptop is a 2012 MacBook Air 13"...it was made exactly 10 years ago. I use it CONSTANTLY. I've had to replace the battery twice (super easy). And I changed out the hard drive for 512GB. It has worked great every day that I've had it. About a year ago, I found a used logic board on eBay with a 8GB RAM memory with an i7 processor!!! That was a super rare option. Although the 4GB worked fine, I changed it out to the 8GB. This has been an awesome laptop. I've traveled extensively with this....I spend about 125 days a year on the road. I've flown and driven all over. For 3 years I spent about 100 days a year (back and forth...repeat a lot) in Mexico with less than perfect voltage. No problems. Also...I regularly would take this out into the desert where this stayed in the car. The ambient temp was 120* and the car temp was over 150*...(no exaggeration at all). I would also use it at our cabin out in the desert which is very dusty. I lived one mile from the beach with moist foggy air. This has been perfect. BIG TIP....do NOT upgrade the Operating System beyond "Sierra". I've never seen any program that won't run on Sierra. It runs plenty fast. It's as fast as the new MacBook Air 12" that my wife's work bought for her. Overall...it's an awesome laptop. I bought a 2014 MacBook Air 13" for my wife for her own personal home computer. Same story. And I bought a 2011 MacBook Air 11" and hers works great as well.
Damn, I really wish I had seen this selling on Ebay, I was literally looking for a 200 dollars laptop last week so I could have some sort of computer for University, and all I found was crappy ChromeBooks... also this wouldve cost 1000 dollars here in Brazil... By the way, great video, earned a subscriber
I picked up a Lenovo T440p for $130 shipped off ebay. It is flawless with dual core I5 and 4GB ram. Its simple and cheap to upgrade too. The CPU, HD and RAM are all easy to change out. Apple doesn't want you to open their machines up and put all kinds of roadblocks in your way to fix or change anything. Be careful and research before you buy anything Apple. Their designs have become more and more flawed over the last decade and a lot of the newer units are truly awful.

Dang, that's a good deal! My 2011 11" model with 2GB of ram and some cosmetic damage from PowerOn was around the same price, and it really kind of sucks as a usable computer now.
Great laptop! I wouldn’t try to run Windows 10 on this one, just because of the 128gb of storage. I don’t think you’d be able to partition it to have enough space left for either Windows or Mac OS to run properly.
I work for an e-waste company. We sell items like this all the time at discounted rates. Most have the hard drives removed and no operating system installed. You can look on ebay under globalewaste (Canadian office) or gesinc (US office)
Ive scoured ebay quite a bit for laptops and Chromebooks and have found some amazing deals. You need to be patient but eventually you will get what you want for what you want to pay.
i got the same macbook air but with the i7 for 300 euro's and it works great for me, i don't care about the bezels or the weird screen ratio, i just use it as a light thing to take with me wherever i go, the battery life is good, its super light, super sturdy and reliable! Its a lovely machine and pretty quick even the processors are down clocked!
I have a HP Probook 430 G4, it was $300 cheaper than my friend's Macbook air 2015 but has; a touchscreen, an intel i7, real vents and a plethora of ports like the hdmi, vga, usb c and usb a. So please, unless your transitioning from Apple to Apple, try to do research before dumping your money out. Good luck!

I was using this laptop literally till the end of the previous week and I swapped it for another oldy 2017 MacBook Air... That thing is tank! Awesome laptop. I had for a two weeks MacBook Pro from 2019, the moment I noticed keyboard did not detect some letters I took it back and I am waiting for 2020 generation of Pro's 13. Thats why I bought the old 2017 version which is cheap and works as a charm as a temporary solution. 2014 11" MacBook Air is amazing! Sold it to my buddy
„This MacBook isnt there to win design awards...“ Me who actually thinks the 11 and 13 inch macbook airs from 2010 to 2014 are two of the most beautiful macbooks ever made: 😁
I only bought this laptop because of its small size. I’m 4’9 so its just the right size for me. Mine still works perfectly and I will keep it for as long as I can.
I have the i7 8gb (very good condition 3 years ago 500$) and its a great Computer. I'm a dj and weight/size + usb 3 ports on every site are very important on stage. If the power is enough its a very good Laptop. If you don't need a Laptop never buy one cause you get always a compromise for the money you spent compare to a tower...
You mentioned the laptop not being very aesthetically pleasing but excluding the bezels, the laptop is good, the trackpad is decently sized and you have the OG keys which are awesome, so the point I'm making is that the bezels are extremely unappealing and fhats about it but... YOUR BLOODY GETTING A MACBOOK AIR FOR 200 DOLLARS
Whoever owned this laptop before it was bulk sold did not do a good job taking care of it. The two MacBooks I sold on eBay were in much cleaner condition than this, and one was from 2012.
Should I get a MacBook Air 2018? I am going to be in high school next year and I don’t to that much hardware intensive work. I am just gonna code a bit and also use it for other school stuff like typing essays or doing homework. Also, the price is no problem for me and what I am planning to get is the base model. Should I get it?
You are going to buy it now for the next academic year? That's a year away. Apple will release new models by then. If you are going to buy it now, what you need it for should not pose a problem for the 2018 Air. Just make sure to get at least 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.
My favourite is the older MacBook Pro’s before Apple were stupid and got rid of MagSafe, USB A, HDMI, And Thunderbolt and started using just USB C. I do have a MacBook Air like the one in this video which I find awesome, the only way it could be better is if it had a Retina display, if Apple ever made a system like that they would have a winner.
I bought an 11" macbook air 8gb/256gb from backmarket for $259, and honestly, I love it. It's a super cool machine to just have in the living room for surfing on the couch.. and I've even installed work stuff on it, and its perfectly fine.. I really recommend these depending on your needs. Also, I bought this in 2022! It's a 7 year old computer and its running Monterey just fine! Try that with a 7 year old dell.
The MacBook Air 11” major downfall is by far the abysmal display. I absolutely hate it. My school assigned everyone in our school an 11” MBA and every time I use it then go to any other devices I’m reminded about how horrible the display is.
Wow. 5 days ago i went on ebay and found this exact item. Down to the bubble wrap package. Mine is basically brand new. Real charger and works excellent.$200.00 with free shipping. They only ship to residential NOT po box. Fed ex 3 day shipping.
I have an 11’ macbook air (2012), so far it’s great for writing essays and that’s pretty much it. I’m a junior in college and this macbook is fine, You can write the same essay on this and on the brand new macbook air.
I hoped the new Air would be a thinner and lighter 13' Pro with Retina display (and slightly slimmed down battery) but no they just had to put an Y chip inside that thing. It would have been an ideal laptop for coders like myself if it had an (latest) i5 or i7 U series inside.

With the dawn of Apple Sillicon, let's hope something like the 11/12 inch can make a comeback!
Hope so too because I want something tiny and portable
I love my 11-inch MacBook Air! I don’t want to lug a heavy laptop around with Me. Granted, the display is like sandpaper on my eyes but the little Mac just works
When I turned 9 my parents got me a 2011 11" MacBook Air the lowest with 2GB of ram and 60GB storage no lie and I still use it as a backup
nobody asked though why would you say thst
this mac book air has better integrated graphics (being HD 5000) than my late 2012 core i7 mac mini (being HD 4000).
Matt Halpain It doesn’t really matter because they’re both still, kinda, trash. This is coming from an Mid 2012 Pro i7 with Intel HD graphics 4000 user
I once got an ipad for 4$ as a part of one of these bulk sales... They are amazing :D
I got my 13" 2015 MacBook air with i7 and 8gb of RAM, for about £300, can't beat the battery life and slimness.
For that price and with those specs mean it's no slouch for Uni work.
EdgyShooter where did you get it from?
@@cheeka7567 eBay, you just have to on the lookout, especially for ones that have a few scrapes or other cosmetic stuff on the outside, or ones with fans that spin hard as that can be fixed with Mac fans control
When I went to Best Buy, I tried out the new MacBook's. The trackpad was great, but it was uncomfortably large.
apple have the best trackpads imo
You get used to it. Now I think every other computer’s trackpad is small and cramped
I really like Apple’s new macbooks
Wake up - Coffee - Work - watch Luke videos - sleep - repeat ❤️
I still use mid 2013 Macbook Air - it's a great machine in 2018!
Their designs have become more and more flawed over the last decade and a lot of the newer units are truly awful.
chromebooks over a similarly priced windows laptop, that's for sure.
Lol in Germany 2013 macbook air still 500€ in dollar over 600 wtf
In italy Too!
I paid $300 for mine & its the best thing ever !!
Could you link the seller??
Taeylor Monae Exactly what I’m saying.
Probably paid $280 like toastybros he said 300 in his video but actually got it for 380..
That seller never has any items for sale.... strange
NO
Dang, that's a good deal! My 2011 11" model with 2GB of ram and some cosmetic damage from PowerOn was around the same price, and it really kind of sucks as a usable computer now.
I just bought a 2014 for $210 with 8 gigs of ram. Mine only had 3 corners dented to about the degree yours are.
Where did you bought it?
nice. 8 gb ram makes it a lot more userable.
I got one of these new and I still use it to this day!
7:24 Umm, is it just me, or is the camera on this MacBook Air too far to the bottom and not centered?
Jerry ジェリー happens frequently on the 11 inch MacBook
This Review just sold me, thank you!
Thanks man I showed my parents and they bought me it you just got an easy subscriber
Great laptop! I wouldn’t try to run Windows 10 on this one, just because of the 128gb of storage. I don’t think you’d be able to partition it to have enough space left for either Windows or Mac OS to run properly.
I have to say, as someone who dips their feet in videography, this video is shot super well. Good job, Luke :)
there's this weird thing that happens in my head where 2014 is simultaneously last year and 7 years ago..
5:17 if apple made laptop with that small aluminium bezels i would buy it INSTANTLY
We’re getting there... slowlt
Nice of him to mention but he still saved the actual location of where to keep an eye out
I'll up you one!! I bought a MacBook Air 2014, 13 inch mint for 275 CAD.
$200 can't beat that I can always change the body out cheaper than buying it full price.!
Remember the bezels on the pre unibody MBPs, they were smaller even than current day bezels
I found a 2011 MacBook Air 11" for only 110$ (fully working) :DDDD
I work for an e-waste company. We sell items like this all the time at discounted rates. Most have the hard drives removed and no operating system installed. You can look on ebay under globalewaste (Canadian office) or gesinc (US office)
5:09 can Apple please do this design?
anthony damion allow me to introduce you to the 2020 MacBook air
we use the 2014 and 2015 MacBook airs in our school and they're not that bad and really light for classes
4:51 this happens to me when I see a device with thick bezels like my old iPad 5 gen
My most recent Mac steals: 2017 MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar 256GB for $725, 2016 MacBook 12" 512GB for $399
Armand Sarkani That’s an awesome deal. Did you buy on eBay?
Love your videos. Woke up and was pleasantly surprised by this!
Ive scoured ebay quite a bit for laptops and Chromebooks and have found some amazing deals. You need to be patient but eventually you will get what you want for what you want to pay.
I'm new to Mac and your videos are very educational. Thanks
I got one last year, I got it from an auction on eBay for less than 200$, i think it was like 153$ haha
i got the same macbook air but with the i7 for 300 euro's and it works great for me, i don't care about the bezels or the weird screen ratio, i just use it as a light thing to take with me wherever i go, the battery life is good, its super light, super sturdy and reliable! Its a lovely machine and pretty quick even the processors are down clocked!
i just did this last week best decision of my life
I have a HP Probook 430 G4, it was $300 cheaper than my friend's Macbook air 2015 but has; a touchscreen, an intel i7, real vents and a plethora of ports like the hdmi, vga, usb c and usb a.
So please, unless your transitioning from Apple to Apple, try to do research before dumping your money out. Good luck!
I like your personality lol great video I just bought a refurbished laptop for the first time it will be my first Mac also and I just need it to browse and add about 3 extensions for sites i need for my business i don’t even wanna sync it lol but i will update it. Thanks for the content to watch while i wait for it to get delivered 🤣 If this goes well I will get a newer but not recent version refurbished lol
Umm it’s 2020 and I just spent $275 on a 2010 MacBook Air 11” (mint, fully spec’d) on eBay. Did I do it wrong?
It's 2020 and I'm editing on Premiere Pro on my 2010 Macbook Air 11" with all 2GB ram and the hilarious intel core 2 duo. Battery life is still 9 hours.
@@pgomez Wah Apple is apple until the Price
I just about to spend 102
nope.
I got 2015 11" Air for that price. Not quite mint, but way better performance and software support.
Paid $240 for a 2017 MacBook Air with travel case , regular case and charger in perfect condition on Facebook marketplace lol
Still quite fine in running the Big Sur OS versions well and still supports until 2024 and above..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
all my life i've been trying to find the right word to describe 16:9, and the moment you said "stupid" clicked so hard it almost made me spit my coffee
Came here just after your last video
Wow, such a good deal! I was considering buying a 2012 MBA 11" for $300, but this is making me reconsider.
He said there’s nothing wrong with it but it’s made by apple
„This MacBook isnt there to win design awards...“
Me who actually thinks the 11 and 13 inch macbook airs from 2010 to 2014 are two of the most beautiful macbooks ever made: 😁
I only bought this laptop because of its small size.
I just found a 2010 MacBook Pro 13” in good condition four only $100
I bought a 2011 MacBook Pro 15'' from my university for $66 w/o a battery.
I bought a 2012 13’ mbp for 150$ weeks ago and it was in fairly good condition
Cesar Tapia I have that same MacBook Pro 2011 15” in perfect condition and I paid $250 for it, the only bad thing is the battery could be better.
The Flip stick an SSD in that thing!
I got me a 2009 MacBook Pro for $75
I just bought a 2017 MacBook Air from bestbuy yesterday
I want one. It can stand alone with a picture of Steve Jobs and run some GarageBand once each month.
Whoever owned this laptop before it was bulk sold did not do a good job taking care of it. The two MacBooks I sold on eBay were in much cleaner condition than this, and one was from 2012.
I recently got a 2015 MacBook Air 13 with 8gb RAM and 128gb SSD for 300, almost perfect condition. eBay is insane
Sounds great for your needs, think you should go for it
Buy the old one. It’s cheaper and for your needs it’s perfectly fine. It’s chunkier and heavier by a little but it’s a rather reliable machine.
Get an iPad. You can’t learn math with mouse and keyboard, only with pen and paper or Pencil with iPad.
You are going to buy it now for the next academic year? That's a year away. Apple will release new models by then.
If you are going to buy it now, what you need it for should not pose a problem for the 2018 Air. Just make sure to get at least 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.
Yeah dude! It just came out, and you'll love that retina screen. If you're gonna be multitasking, go for the 16GB of RAM.
I wanted to buy one of these 11 inch airs back when they were still produced
My favourite is the older MacBook Pro’s before Apple were stupid and got rid of MagSafe, USB A, HDMI, And Thunderbolt and started using just USB C. I do have a MacBook Air like the one in this video which I find awesome, the only way it could be better is if it had a Retina display, if Apple ever made a system like that they would have a winner.
Dude literally every video he has is on MacBooks. How do y’all not get bored of watching literally almost the same device every video
Fabulous video, mate. I’m looking for an eight GB 2014/15 eleven inch one of these, but they’re as rare as hens’ teeth.
Am I the only one who noticed that he never shows the ”about this mac”? And he never mentioned the year.
Piipperi800 he said 2014
o:54 it's a mid 2009.
@Alton Kilbourne check out 6:54. it says mid 2009
@@reychop that was the macbook pro 6:47 -.-
@@VaulPianney Oh my mistake.
I bought the same computer but it’s an early 2015.I love it.and I paid 300 dollars.mine was in better shape though
The MacBook Air 11” major downfall is by far the abysmal display. I absolutely hate it. My school assigned everyone in our school an 11” MBA and every time I use it then go to any other devices I’m reminded about how horrible the display is.
Nice man, i have one too. I want to replace the ssd hard drive and this movie show me how. Thanks lot.
Watching this on my MacBook with the exact same specs :)
mine is the same but somehow come across one with 8gb, my friend sold it to me for $100 legit best deal I've ever come across
I paid 480 for my 13 inch 2013 Air, but its in a somewhat better shape and with an i7, 256GB and 8GB of RAM.
