I think all the Toyota trucks/suv's from the 80's/90's are like this. My 85 4wd and 94 fzj80 have the same screw. I love that Toyota makes some things so simple!
That after market wiper/turn signal switch has held up in one of my Toyota restores....the only problem I found was my OEM had the intermittent wipe and the new one just has a wipe feature when you push it up. If you use that portion it will blow your wiper fuse every single time. I have went to quick swipe my windshield and blowen it a few times😂
Wow, really cool to know that's all it takes. Cant believe this fix only took a 3 min video lol, thanks man! As for more accurate way to measure play .. not even sure it would be worth doing anything more than what you did, but for sake of discussion ..... how about a piece of tape in either the 9 or 3 O'clock positions, or any position, really, so long as the ruler is held perpendicular to the starting point of the tape. Better yet, include a curved ruler with the same radius at the steering wheel 🤓Come to think of it, they probably mean play in terms of radial distance, rather than linear up and down a ruler. I wont carry on, but you can see where im going.
I always turn to the lock one way or the other to check wheel play at its tightest. That way you know if it’s worn out or out of adjustment. You don’t want binding
Hello, i own a hilux 1994 diesel, ln106, and it takes 4,5 steering wheel turns to make left to right. How many turns is your toyota ? How can to make less steering turns ? Thank you for your videos
I think mine is around 3 turns. Because I'm using 1-ton calipers with the drop spindles, the top pins of the calipers were hitting the upper control arms at full lock, so I had to adjust the steering bolts on the LCA's to reduce the steering angle some.
So while I have less turns, I also have less steering angle. For a quicker steeering ratio, you would have to change out the gears in the steering box, which I don't think is possible. The only other way might be to convert to a steering rack setup, which isn't cheap and requires some fabrication.
Aww man, the Chinese aftermarket blinker/wiper stalks only lasted 2 months in my rig before they stopped working. I went back to eBay to find an original.
@@6thGearGaragethe connector Pinout changed around that year as well. You should put info about that in your next video, it cost me some extra hassle I couldn’t find online.
Good information, got to measure it has some play, but it may be less than 30 mm but now I know how to adjust it! Greets 1990 2WD Hilux! Mine is so original it is going to have next week a "museum" car title here (got to be original and over 30 years old) so good news!

That's it? Cool! I definitely thought it was more complicated than that.

Yep, adjusted that before when I rebuilt the steering box in my pickup! Nice tip

I’ve been wondering how to fix and if it’d be hard. This is amazing!

Loving this truck stuff mate - keep em coming!

Ha, what a shitty reminder not to ever use intermittent wipers! I'd be replacing the fuse every time it rains lol.

Appreciated
I have been meaning to do this on my 1994 2wd pickup.

Good call!
Thank you for video. Its possible to do something like this in LC80 ?
Yes, this method will also work on an 80 series LC. The factory service manual says 40mm is the max amount of acceptable play in the steering wheel.
How do I get the RN40L repair manual?
I found mine on Amazon amzn.to/4e6X26x
If you adjust that screw down too much, you will loose the automatic return to center when you come out of a turn
Oh good to know, thank you!

That’s a bummer to hear. I hope mine holds up.

@@josephwhiting2448 Yeah i want to say 79-81 were the same and 82 was different? I'll look into it!
30mm is 2/3 of an inch??? More like 1.18"
I guessed 1 1/8”
