Tony Williams and Vinnie...and seeing both many..many times..too many to count...Been following Vinnie all my life ( we are the same age )....and seeing Tony before we lost him...BOTH..!! breath Fire..!!!With Vinnie being very similar in style..They are for me the Greatest players...Ever..!!!

Vinnie is a musicians master he only makes music he did clinics back in the 80s but said it was a dog and pony show .I mean what is the guy gonna say to the 90% of us that couldn't carry his stick bag . Vinnie really doesn't like the limelight and just wants to play music he has a billion follower's his phone never stops ringing and I don't believe he likes cameras very much. Every clip of him is a gem my all-time favorite but yes good video of Vinnie is like seeing Bigfoot riding a unicorn.

Vinnie is amazing but don't discount the level of musicians he's playing with. Let's face it, if he played some of that stuff with lower calibre players they would be lost within 2 bars. Great player & great video, thank you!

Well, Herbie is often lost on Vinnie's solo on "Actual Proof", and a LOT of heavy weight musicians can be lost too, Vinnie goes so far sometimes, but, nobody is to blame, it happens to almost EVERYBODY.
I saw one of these shows and was pissed that Guitar and Bass decided to bring stacks to a JAZZ gig and block my view of Vinnie. Still a great show but cmon man....lol
He is the top of the top. Beside his extreme musical and technical skills, for me, what makes him the best is that somehow I never ever see him hesitating even for a split second. Each and every single hit is 120% confident and powerful. His playing tells me and makes me feel that what he does it has to happen excactly that way it actually happens. There is no question.
Every time I hear another drummer who is in the upper echelon trying to take the crown, I come back to Vinnie clips and am quickly brought back to reality. The guy is a jack of all trades and a master of them, too. Rare air this guy breathes.
I’m a sound engineer, I’ve recorded Vinnie a fair amount. I can tell you from experience he can sight read anything, including tempo changes. While all the other musicians go into the control room to listen to a new song and make notes on the charts, Vinnie goes out to smoke. Someone grabs him when it’s time to record again, he comes in and plays through the chart cold better than everyone else who just listened and made notes. He is truly on another level from all other drummers. It’s an honor and a pleasure to record him. He never needs a second take in the 20 years I’ve been doing sessions with him.

I agree Lars always sounds like he is barely hanging on back in the early thrash metal days. It’s hard to watch. But he has endurance and never stopped trying. I wonder is how could he not make that bell brass Tama snare drum not crack harder on Metallica albums of any time period? And rarely did he ever use the ride cymbal very effectively. Never crashes his ride on choruses or opened up his hats a whole lot.

Take THAT Steve Smith!!!" & I just DIED laughing
