    Flair has a incredible memory. I’m 36 and can barely remember what I did 2 weeks ago.

      That usually means you have nothing of significance to remember meaning you need to live life more. This coming from personal experience.

      I remember it well. 1977 I was 11 years old sitting in front of a black and white TV at my grandparents cheering for Steamboat to take the title from Flair, oh my what a good time that day. Funny though after Flair's first baby face whether he wS face or heel he was and has been my favorite wrestler. The GOAT.

    The best matches in my opinion was when Flair had the US title and defended it against Steamboat.1970s
    The best in ring chemistry I have ever seen. Those two did Broadways ever night . Why? Because both enjoyed so much.

      @@grawakendream8980 Well he had no choice. Vince wanted him to be that guy to rise above most others but at the time when his star was rising, his wife was going to have Richard Jr and he wanted time off to be with them. Vince didn't want to let him have any time off so he punished him for it. It was a downhill slide after that. Messed up and things like that are why a lot of people hate Vince til this day. He did come back for a little under a year back in 1991 but Vince wanted him to take losses he didn't want to take in the ring. I guess Steamboat was a bit vain in that sense. He wanted to rake up as many wins as possible I dont know...

    Saw flair/Steamboat in the Meadowlands in 1984. I was 14. It was dubbed “A Night of Champions” and I still have the PWI button they were giving out. In the age of Hogan whose matches consisted more of posing than wrestling, I was absolutely blown away at this 45 minute display of greatness.

      it is real--it's acting, theater, stuntwork, live performances. Really no different than when people would go watch Arnold or Eastwood take on the bad guys. But the latter is just a static movie, the former is like a Broadway performance that would travel around.

    If any of you think Hogan, The Rock, Cena, or anybody else is better than Ric Flair, just watch a couple of his matches with Steamboat. Not only does Ric Flair have the greatest promos of all time, but his cardio is amazing. He could wrestle Steamboat an hour and never take a deep breath. Steamboat was the same way. Ric also bleed, sweat, and put on a very entertaining match as well. How do I know, because I was born in the sixties and I watched Ric and Steamboat from the beginning. Those other big stars people like so much, may be better TV actors or movie stars, and they may sell more t-shirts, but when it comes to that squared circle, nobody and I mean nobody, can touch Ric Flair.

I like Piper and Jake, but they are not even in the discussion. Macho Man, Arn Anderson, and Stone Cold are all better than Piper and Jake. Hogan was a huge star, but he is not better on the microphone than Ric. You can be rich and popular and that doesn’t mean you are the best at anything, look at all these silly reality show stars, they are rich and famous because they are on TV. LOL. @@paulsmith9192, but professional wrestling is not the UFC or amateur wrestling. Ric dressed better than everyone, he had custom made suits, robes, and wore a $15,000.00 Rolex watch. His gold chain and gold belt cost more than most people’s homes back then. He wrestled 9 times a week, he wrestled 7 days a week, he made everybody look great, he took more bumps off that top rope than Hogan and 5 more famous wrestlers combined. He also survived a plane crash at the beginning of his career and had a broke back and still came back to wrestle another 40 years. Hogan would need an oxygen tank to keep up with Ric in the ring and out of the ring. I like Hogan a lot and he was a huge star, but he isn’t Ric Flair. I mean Hogan was a baby face for the most part and Ric was a bad guy at their early peak and bad guys are always going to be put below the baby face, but guys like Hogan couldn’t draw a dime without guys like Ric Flair pissing people off and making them mad enough to come to an arena to see Hogan destroy that big mouth Flair. Ric understood the business better than most and was a genius. Wrestling was Ric’s life. One final thought, I wouldn’t pay 3 bucks to watch Kurt Angle wrestle anyone. Thank You, Ric for making my childhood and young adulthood so great.

    • @stonecoldflipper9503
      @stonecoldflipper9503 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. Steamboat didn’t have the greatest gimmick or the best promos. Steamboat also had a short career, but man could he wrestle. I think him and Shawn Michaels are the two best I have seen in the ring as far as wrestling. They also had charisma and could put on a great show. I think Brett Hart is also good, but he was not as exciting and didn’t fly through the air like Steamboat did. There are other great wrestlers out there, but most of them didn’t match up well with Ric Flair and they didn’t have that X Factor like Steamboat did and Ric Flair was the bad guy and the World Champion most of the time. I like the words you used, crisp and fluid, and he was smooth.

You are right, Dusty was a much bigger draw than Steamboat, but Ric and I are talking about working in the ring, not how many people want your autograph. The bottom line is Dusty, Barry, and Harley never had a match as good as Steamboat vs. Macho Man, as far as in the ring work. Steamboat is like Brett Hart. You hear about so MANY people having the best match of their career with them.
      I agree, he never drew, but he probably would have at some point.
      The thing is, flair and macho wrestled EVERYONE, and it's hard to argue they had a better match with anyone that wasn't steamboat.
      There are so many short, throwaway tv matches where he stole the entire show.
      I agree, he's probably not top three. It's REAL hard to argue against guys like Benoit, Taker, HBK, Hart, DB... But I mean, he's top ten without a doubt.
