Your dad did a really great job painting the El Camino. My dad had the talent for painting. We had a body shop in the early eighties. We actually did everything an auto shop.

Let me make you feel even better about that. I live in Sweden and the classic car scene here is huge. I have lived in a number of small towns (2.5 - 10 k population) and there are SO many 30-70's cars in immaculate shape. On the street I live I have two neighbors who each own 1955 convertible Ford Thunderbirds, the ones with the spare wheel on the rear. One in a perfect cherry red and the other in super clean yellow. All restored to perfection. There are regular "cruise meetups" when the season permits. The larger Cadillacs are no rare sight either. just yesterday I passed a SUPER clean black 53 Bonneville with a matching camper behind it. So, all in all, the love for classic cars is still alive and well over here. You can feel good about passing those gems on, they will live on for a long time. :)

That paint job is killer ! What a cool cruiser. I use paint guns from Harbor Freight, the 15.99 one. I've tried more expensive guns but those do the best job for me.
You did good, I agree the white roof was an excellent choice. Your dad can sure paint. I learned to paint commercially when I was young (buildings) just like you dad did, I was taught to paint edges and hard to do areas first then the flat sections. Love your channel, Y'all are very talented. I am impressed how you take great care with these old beauties, and keep them original as much as possible. God Bless.

IMHO, this looks MUCH better than the "patina" thing. I believe in preserving the original paint if it has little or no body damage to repair, and the paint is basically all there with maybe a few thin spots and flaws. Once there is body damage, rust-through that needs repair, and extensive surface rust, forget it...just paint it back in it's original colors...the car will look SOOOO much better. And I agree with you, I MUCH prefer single stage paint..if it fades a bit, you can usually wax/buff it back out...especially if it's lacquer...base/clearcoat, it looks good/shiny until the clear decides to peel or turn white/deteriorate...then, an otherwise good paint job is completely shot...I just don't care for it. Just think, if the old 1940's-1960's cars had been painted with base coat/clear coat, there probably wouldn't be ANY old cars left with original paint..the clear coat would have failed after 10-15 years, and downhill from there....

I was all for the patina look, but you knocked it out of the park 🤘🤘🤘 try and go with a white bedliner, that would pop with the roof.

It would have looked good one color, but you're right that white top really makes it pop.
Did you do the underside of the hood?
You could buy repop fender emblems, you also use light coat of primer to go over with sanding block for low or high spots.. then you paint
