Yeah, I built a version of the lumed Great Wave dial for my nephew’s high school graduation present as he will be attending University of Hawaii in the Fall. I think it will be fun for him, but I have the enameled version of the same dial and it spends most of its time in the drawer. I like it, but it really doesn’t get much wrist time. And you’re right, it’s not highly legible, but for an occasional conversation starter at a party (remember those?) it gets the job done. Hopefully, my nephew’s watch will be a good conversation starter for him too.

I went to UH Manoa , hope he is disciplined as it is so easy to skip class to go surfing and or play golf among so many other activities and great night life at Moose Magillacuddy's and Waikiki is in almost walking distance.

Another non Seiko thats way better than any Seiko both in specs, price, and quality. I really do think that Seiko need to wake up a bit, I reckon they are in cruise mode for the last 5-6 years.....
Agree with you, but when Seiko stops making a model, the prices sky rockets and the use market is on fire...If you sell a San Martin second hand, nobody knows the brand so the value goes down completely. I know you don't buy watches to sell them but when you have a nice piece AND it keeps it's value... thats a big +1 for me! But the 62mas homage that San Martin makes is fabulous, cause I will never have the Seiko version $$$$$ have a good day!

I’m trying to decide between the San Martin version or the Heimdallr model with the lumed bezel. Is the lume on the Heimdallr dial the same as the San Martin?

I just picked one of these up in the AliExpress summer sale. Price had come down considerably and it now comes with a signed crown and different lume. I’m very happy with it. Delivery to Australia was very quick too 👍🏻

Hi Jody, I watched this video right after it came out, and was in love with dial. I thought I should order the watch. After about five minutes, I became worried about it selling out, so I ordered it immediately. One hour later they were sold out! When not on the wrist, the watch sits on the counter and every time I look at it, it makes me happy. Great job Jody. PS: You gave your watch to your father in law, so go out and buy you another one, it will make you happy.

Nice piece and nice video. San Martin lume is amazing. I've got a San Martin Vintage Diver 200M GMT (Auto) which I bought because I like the vintage aesthetics. Somehow the fact that it has no date gives perfect balance. Then I found out that it's a homage to the archaic Rolex GMT from 1953. It has a FULLY LUMED Sapphire bezel (like the Rolex Bakelite) and the Pepsi glowing bezel looks incredible at night, and it lasts well. I'd love it if San Martin did a homage to the Omega Bond No Time To Die Seamaster....

I have the 6105 homage and I love it…San Martin Has really come along way in a short period of time! It seems like Seiko Is now playing ‘catch-up’ With the Manufacturers that are making their homages...These are every bit the quality of the re-releases that Seiko has JUST put out. Seiko just released a couple of 6105 ‘homage-to-themselves’ Limited additions...At $2700 US and $1600 respectively, I’ll take the San Martin thank you…! Another great review Jody! Cheers!
My Pagani Design Submarier Hulk homage arrived a week ago... I'm very satisfied, the watch is amazing! I watched your review many times to realize which one I would pick: Pagani or Loreo... Unfortunately, Pagani doesn't have the kermit color configuration, but the green dial with sunburst effect is mesmerizing! So thankful, Jody. And for sure, I would have a Great Wave San Martin if the US dollar wouldn't cost 5 units or more of my country's money!

A few months back you presented the bronze 62Mas version with the same dial to us. I just had to order it. It seems it was assembled by the b-team working through the pandemic since it has some issues (bezel is slightly misalinged, moves a tiny bit on the case and clicks when touched from above). Yet I don't regret the purchase, it just looks that good.

I've always loved that shape, & San Martin definitely seem like a good option from the repro sellers out there, however I would only buy it in a plain dial & would have to hope the hands etc. were lumed just as well as these. I'm sure they'll sell well though & your father in law will love it 👍

Charge the lume with a black light flashlight. It takes 3 seconds to ‘full charge.’ Black light is part of the light frequency that the luminescent is able to absorb quicker.
I bought the brass version of this love it its my second San Martin excellent build quality 👍

I don't see myself buying this, but goodness me that's a stunner. And that lume...
just got it today, impulse buy, dribble dribble so happy. could have been tacky but SM have nailed it quality wise. everyday wear ? almost but will hit the flesh post work in these summer evenings. The steel is perfect to showcase the dial, and the date window doesn't intrude as the eye goes centre left to the Wave. Multiple straps and colours would work with this, and its 200m water resistant for gods sake, yup, Jodie called it right yet again. Sell your liver for one is my advice.
What color strap do you think would go with this? I'm thinking of buying another one for mine.

I know the wave is iconic but to busy. I would buy one in a second if they would use that technology to just a plain dial. I have a Tag- Heuer night diver from the 80's and that has been my benchmark for lume. A watch that has great lume gives a smile every time I look at it. Thanks for the review Jody.
Pulled the trigger yesterday on a HKED 1963 panda chronograph. 160 EUR instead of 177 EUR. Thats an acceptable discount 💪
Love this watch. Woulda probably preferred black indices to give it better legibility and let the dial's lume take over, but that's just me.

Actually picked up that Dial late last year and its now on my Seiko 5 mod. I wear it in Office Mon to Fri as well...Shirt & Tie and all.😼
Love the amazing look of the lumed wave. I believe Lugyou makes some of the watches for San Martin and that they have started producing their own .. according to 'I Like Watches' they are also rebranding their name and logo to make it more appealing. They even made a small batch ILW production run for that channel. Same build quality as San Martin but it will be Interesting to see if they will begin producing even cheaper San Martin versions.
Fyi Jody as a joke you should send Gary at I Like Watches one of your mugs and ask him how many he has sold yet? (Fyi he just got his first shipment in). I know he likes and watches your channel and jokes about it all the time - I know he would appreciate the joke.
San Martin updated the dial of their 6105 homages. They put the minute tracks on the chapter ring. No more minute tracks on the dial. That left room to push the indices a bit outward. On the original (and other homages that still have the minute track on the dial) the outer corner of the indices lines up with the right side of the date window (in an imagined circle). Now the date window looks like it is a little bit pushed to the center of the dial. It ruins the symmetry and balance and doesn't look well thought. That little mm is a turnoff for me. Hope they adress this flaw in future upgrades.

Just ordered the Heimdallr version, but fell out with Heimdallr and cancelled the order. One week later and they hadn't bothered to dispatch it, not great. I negotiated a price of $210 inc of P&P with San Martin for the Turtle version. I didn't end up pressing the button, but may in the future
I ordered the bronze version of this the last time you mentioned it. Unfortunately it got lost in shipping, but I was able to get a full refund. So I used that refund to buy it again. Hopefully this one arrives.
I'm chasing a slightly different version of this with a sapphire bezel insert & smaller indices, out of stock atm. Like you say edging towards novelty but artful enough to not be silly. I had a Mr Jones Last Laugh Tattoo but it was just a bit too silly in the end.
It has a 70s look to it. If you look at the older Seiko divers, it looks similar, everything on the watch is a rip off of someone else's design including the dial. Not a bad price if you like the watch. Too big and chunky for me. Great lume. I guess it could be a fun beach watch if they ever open up the beaches.

Would like to see a variety of solid color choices for the dial. While I like that particular painting, I’m not sure I’d want it on my watch. But man that dial lume was cool!

Matches your skin tone on wrist. Should be tasteless, butI really like it. Kitsch, but in a good way. I don’t need one, but I want one. Were I not saving for the equally eye jarring Gold G Shock, the 6900, I would have one.

I can't believe you have never reviewed a Lorus Lumibrite dial. I just got one. As a fellow "lume pig" my first purchase was a Khuriburi on your recommendation. The Lorus is a subsidiary of Seiko. Quartz day date full lume dial field watch for a 40 and it's an ABSOLUTE SWEETIE. Let me know what you think. I've been a fan since almost day one. So long and thanks for all the fish! Okay interested in a dive watch with fantastic lume. that's great dependable good looking and under 800. Dollars. Bang for buck cheaper is better. But if a watch is really that much better i could save and w as it. Glycine combat? Nth? Helm? Squale? Phoibos py007c? Sekio?? I do have some older sekio watches but the lume stopped long ago. Suggestions?
