I mean, it had first season shakiness. I don’t think it needed a different network (aside from not being cancelled), it just needed more time. It’s very season 1 Buffy. A lot of people hate season 1 Buffy, but I enjoy it. It’s not my fave by any stretch, but it’s still a good time more often than not. If First Kill had more time I think it could have really found itself, maybe that would have been more towards the melodrama, or maybe they’d have embraced the camp. The world will never know.
Totally agree re A League of Their Own. It was absolutely perfect and it makes me so sad that it hasn't got the recognition it deserves. I try and encourage people I know to watch it as much as I can!
I'm not going to lie I'm here because of the thumbnail gap the series is my ultimate favorite I still have Goosebumps everytime I see them even though the drama i'm still here for FreenBecky❤
Pink Theory is such a sugar rush kind of series when you watch it so you'll feel so in love and excite but after it end all the problematic issue start to sinking in
I watched so many things on that list last year thanks to you! Notably The Baby and High School, both of which I loved. ALOTO was my personal favorite. It left me feeling so loved as a lesbian, and I can't point out a single other piece of media that's had the same healing effect. Thank you for your work on this channel!!
Everything, Everywhere All at Once had me ugly crying on a plane and has now joined my other two favorite movies as movies I will watch and watch and watch till I perish! And I’m on my third rewatch of A League of Their Own… So good!
I was shocked not to see Stupid Wife on here! But I do agree about Gap The Series/Pink Theory. I absolutely LOVED that show when it was on, especially because it's rare to see lesbian intimacy depicted so well. Like, the actresses (Freenbecky) were so convincing and passionate about giving great performances, that you'd almost think the actors had to have been dating in real life or something. Once it was over, I realized it was full of issues, especially related to the editing, music choices, and the acting (especially from some of Mon's coworkers). But I'm still so glad it exists.
editing was great, music choices were great; most of the cast sang their own music and the intro song until ep10 is an absolute bop and is so catchy, the co-workers at the office weren't even bad, like Noi (the HR girl) had me IN TEARS laughing like Ampere is just absolutely hilarious on screen in any role she plays, Chin was hilarious, even Auntie Mhee has her moments (the actress who plays her is actually a super famous comedian in Thailand, actually GAP managed to get some legendary talent in 🇹🇭, the lady who plays Sam's Grandmother is like a legend there, Auntie Yo they call her)
It’s not even so bad it’s good. It’s just very season 1 Buffy, which is a good time more often than not. I honestly don’t know what people expect from tv shows these days. Like, not everything has to be “flagship television”, you can be a campy fantasy melodrama. It’s okay to like mid things. What a wild thing to have to say.
I'll reserve my thoughts for your Gap placement until after you're finished with the series. However, I'm glad to see new things I didn't see before. Off to go watch new stuff.
"Do Revenge" was probably also inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock film "Strangers on a Train," which was based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote the novel that was made into "Carol."
What a great list! The thematic shift is JARRING, but Parallel Mothers is a fantastic watch. I unapologetically believe Bodies Bodies Bodies is brilliant. High School and The Baby were both contenders for best hidden gem of 2022.
As always your observations are so on point lol. I expected nothing from Do Revenge and it gave us a ton. And A League of Their Own was so incredibly lesbian it was a breath of fresh (1940's) air. My personal favourite from 2022 is Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna (She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat). It's a japanese TV series adapted from a manga about two 30ish women who bond over cooking and eating and over time sapphism ensues. It's adult, realistic and absolutely heartwarming. A season 2 is confirmed to start early 2024. No oficial release outside Japan but a quick google provides.
Listen we absolutely loved ALOTO on tumblr! Some shows are simply for the queer community and will never be apart of mainstream or get the blockbusting commercial success it may deserve but it doesn’t mean they are any less loved and appreciated by us.
THANK YOU! Everything Everywhere All At Once! Tried to show my bro and dad no luck, THEN of course nominated and their like 'oh we watched that?' children please YES AND WE WILL WATCH AGAIN
Gap the series my all time favorite...I have truly watched it more than enough by now.... goosebumps all over when I watch it...❤❤❤❤❤and do revenge damn..
“My Name is Pauli” is an excellent autobiographical film. It is beautifully done and is so very interesting! Talk about a brilliant and bold woman that was far ahead of her time! My wife and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I will never shut up about Tar as a film for it's cinematography and artistically ambitious well crafted storytelling.. it is more than her sexuality which I know many were looking to watch it for but I don't know how to explain it when it's subtle depiction was so much better than any centered plot over the scandals.. when it was so much about her fighting her demons and losing her career that she loved more than anything than it was her kissing girls when everything in her life was going wrong..
I would recommend giving Tár a shot once it hits streaming platforms. It's easier to bail out if you don't like it... and a lot of people won't (then again, most should realize this pretty early in the movie).
@@bipbop3121 I have no idea, local Prime Video has only titles available via subscription and even then the selection is limited compared to other markets. It is much cheaper than other streaming subscriptions, though.
Thanks, Well in case validation is need I liked "Velma" and "first kill" as well. To be fair, especially in series, clunky writing, weird editing. Plot chasm that cause suspension of disbelief as shattering as if being kicked by a chassé-croissé from Bruce lee are kind of the norm now, as well i am not sure that actors or writer talent is really the fundamental issue. I liked parallel mothers (but it is pedro so) and the novice strangely resonated with me. (i am not a big fan of Tar...). yeah High school is criminally under-viewed...
I watched this video because I saw GAP the series thumbnail. I agree with what you said .. Gap is not a perfect series by its story .. the main attraction in this series is the chemistry between the main actors Freen and Becky. We don't get to see this type of intimacy with any gay characters. Which will make us believe they are real couples. Trust me.., I have watched a lot of lesbian series... movies..I have seen a lot of hot Scenes way more than this but none of the characters made me feel the way Freen and Becky does in GAP the series,STUPID WIFE Luiza and valentina. Even the simple (lip-bite)scenes made me goosebumps. I am disappointed that you didn't mention about stupid wife it is also good. It is also good like GAP STUPID WIFE AND GAP CHEMISTRY 🔥❤🔥
Great, stuff to watch, not just rewatch. I can't with Velma. Some were on my to watch list. I haven't seen Sissy, Parallel Mothers, The Novice, Pauli Murray doc, Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, The Baby & Everything Everywhere All at Once. I'm working on Wentworth, The Expanse, Dead Ringers. I've seen A League of Their Own multiple times over, more than Gentleman Jack at this point. It's criminal is getting only a few episodes, if the strike doesn't kill it, as opposed to at least 2-4 more full seasons
My problem with Velma isn't that it's a shoddy show. That's forgivable among shows in general. They could even be fun. No, my problem lies in the absolute shoehorning in of Scooby-Doo characters in a show that is decidedly not Scooby-Doo. Kahling (who is terrible writer and worse actress, but a champion of POC & Queer inclusion, so yay?) admitted that she wanted an animated show and it needed a hook to attract viewers. Why she chose such a beloved character and franchise is beyond me. She'd have fared better with creating something Ruby-Spears adjacent and _then_ go for the in-jokes. Gap doesn't ever deliver on its sapphic promises. A League of Their Own is one I have watched three times. It's beautiful. I also bought the EEAAO DVD before I ever saw it. It took me a moment to remember if I actually finished Tár the second time I watched it. I will say a good sound system helped me appreciate it more than when I listened to the soundtrack on good IEMs. Who doesn't appreciate Cate Blanchett in a suit? She acts her ass off. I'd rather Cate Blanchett stop propping up the likes of Woody Allen or a tone deaf take on sexual abuse of power. I'm still going to hope to get a much better lesbian maestro movie, not written by a man defending predators

"First Kill" would have done amazing if it were on CW circa 2015 - 2017. We'd have had more episodes and better storytelling.
