I think growls are easier to do, and are definitely 'on mic' only. Subharmonics are passable off mic, but the way they both do them so well is just awesome!

The first really low note near the end it's a Chest G#1, and at the end it was a C2 - F1 slide, Chest C2 and Sub Harmonic F1. :)
