  • Carnival cruise line changes the drink package. We always get worried when cruise lines change something but I think this change is not too bad. Carnival drink package's are some of the best offered out there. Let's take a look at the Cheers drink package by carnival cruise line and go over the change they made.

    Hi Don, look forward to your videos. Folks need to be aware that BOTH people in the cabin are required to buy the package if one does. If both people are big drinkers then it's not a bad deal. If only one is a big drinker and the other person isn't it's really not a very good deal. We've done it both ways (with and with out the drink package and generally saved money by simply
    'pay as you go". We bought the drink package on Holland America but it's the same. As to them lowering the price limit...we mainly just drink beer and mixed/frozen drinks so it's no big deal. Unless your real boozers It's not worth it.

    The 15% tip they are automatically adding is assuming my service is already above and beyond and that is why I am willing to pay more only I don’t get a choice. Tips are no longer tips. They are now an expected part of their income and that is wrong. And then you are suggesting we tip more on top of that?! Please tell me what more a bartender or waitress is doing that they deserve a tip over any other person in the service industry. In this regard we should follow the Europeans. Most people save an entire year some two for one vacation and we basically have to lessen what we want in order to tip others who choose to work in this industry. I’m tired of being bullied into this. Tipping is out of control!!!

    • @dianad6090
      @dianad6090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well said. My mom bought a bottle of water that was in our cabin, and she had to pay a 15% tip on a bottle of water that was in the room. Plus, we paid over a $100 each on tips. At the spa, tip was automatically added to our bill then they had the audacity to ask for additional tip.

      When we went on the Royal Caribbean, we immediately had them take off the gratuity charge. As, we told them that we’d tip them as we went along. I tipped our cabin steward the very first day and had the best service ever. Even though I don’t drink I tipped the cocktail server whenever I got a glass of water. Service was much better, we had the same wait staff every single place & night because of this. It was excellent.

    Last March my husband & I went on a 4 days cruise & the drink package was certainly worth it! I’m not a huge drinker but I felt that I got my money’s worth. I can’t think of any drink that was more than $20 that we had. I even took shots of patron. Neither of us reached our 15 drinks a day. I think the most I got in was 8 but still worth it to us!

  • @lauramiller7994

    When I had a carnival drink package, I looked and looked to try to find a drink that was $50 and never could find any drink that would come even close to that. On Carnival, I'm not sure that you can find a drink that would be over the $20 limit.

  • @katdodd6211
    @katdodd6211 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    As someone that always purchases the drink package, I am extremely unhappy. No they were not alot of $50 drinks but there are plenty of drinks around $20 so I will now have to think about drink prices whereas I didn't have to before (that is the main point here). It takes away from the relaxing all inclusive feeling it provided and I compare it to cruise lines obviously gradually beginning to move all the "good food" and service to specialty dining so they won't have to include great food anymore, just mediocre food...hell some cruise lines are even doing speciality dining packages!

  • @SpaceLizard1049
    @SpaceLizard1049 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Currently on the sensation. We are drinkers and were worried about getting cut off so we gifted our room an additional bottle of scotch. We have not touched the scotch yet and we have been between 12-14 drinks every day. Haven't found a drink over $20 yet. Good wines at dinner are about 13, single malt whiskeys are 16.50. If you are going to drink more than 6 or 7, it's worth it. Also of note since it wasn't clear in my research, private islands use sail and sign for payment but it doesn't count against your 15.

  • @AlexGulinoHouli
    @AlexGulinoHouli 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It totally makes sense because when I asked the bartender, "what's the $50 drink?" He said there was like only 1 thing that was that expensive, and whatever he said it was (I don't recall), I wasn't interested in anyway!

  • @TheSnickerdoodle24
    @TheSnickerdoodle24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It will only be an issue if they raise the price of the drink specials. It makes sense cause $50 is high for a single drink but it should include all of the drink specials that carnival have every day. It's still the best drink package in my opinion.

    I think it's a great deal, IF you're going to drink over $52 of alcohol per day. Personally, I drink Long Island Iced Teas on board which run about $10 each. Five of those per day is pushing it for me so the drink package is not worth it for me. I'm not a soda drinker and normally drink juice, water, or black coffee with breakfast and lunch. To me, 15 alcoholic drink per day seems excessive! If you factor in a few milkshakes, sodas, or specialty coffees I guess it's not too bad. As far as the new price limit, $20 per drink seems more than reasonable. After all, if you're accustomed to buying very expensive alcoholic drinks, you're probably not going to be concerned about price anyway. I only wish that spouses could share the drink package because if one person in a room buys the package, the other has to get it too, if I'm not mistaken. That's way too much money for both of us. We could easily drink together within the limits of one package.

    We just got off a Carnival Cruise on Sunday and we never order the cheers program because we can't drink that much EVERY day. We both had as many drinks as we wanted and even bought bottles of prosecco for the table on the last night and our total bill for the cruise was $403 . . . Including a cheap beach transfer excursion we booked at the last moment. So for us (and many people) just skip the package entirely and bring a yeti cup for lemonade and enjoy the occasional drink you might add in.

  • @bakergeetee
    @bakergeetee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I suppose I've been spoiled by Celebrity Cruises beverage packages. I don't believe there was a cutoff limit per day, and while it costs more than Carnival's(depends on how long the cruise is) they include(at least the two versions of the alcohol package) include bottled water, specialty coffee, specialty coffee drinks(with and without alcohol added), specialty teas, smoothies(no milkshakes available unfortunately) soda, and fresh squeezed juices along with the cocktails and liquor. One could also order mocktails with the alcohol packages, although there are separate packages specifically for non alcohol drinks, as well as for soda, wine and water. The basic alcohol bevvy package is offered as one of four "free" perks when booking a cruise and it's possible to upgrade to the premium if desired(with the upcharge naturally). There's more to it, but this post is already too doggne long! 😄

    premium package would be over $650 a week per person.
    Several couples said they get 1 and then bar hop to buy drinks separately to cut the cost. Unless you have money to burn, I feel pay as you go is a better deal.

    Hmmm, my favorite top shelf vodka (Grey Goose VX cocktails) were $20.50 which is barely over the limit. would be $15.38 with a 25% "cheers" discount which places it UNDER $20 so I wonder if it's included? (Most likely not) I'll find out in about 3 weeks when I board the Carnival Fascination.

    Tips should always be based upon service , cant understand the logic of pre charging a tip especially if the staff still expect a tip from you despite knowing that tip amount is pre charged and when you don't give additional tip the service quality drops.
    Also pre charging a tip only ends up taking away the motivation factor of the staff to serve you better because they know they are getting a share of the tip whether they provided a good service or not.

    Not much of a drinker so I never get cheers. I wish they had levels to the packages since I only have one or 2 drinks a day. I just got off my 4th carnival Cruise (victory) and I'm going to look for another cruise line for my next few cruises. I had my first balcony and ended up spending a lot of time in my cabin. I missed dinner at the main dining room every night this time and had to eat from the dinner buffet and it was disappointing. The deserts were horrible! I don't know if the dinner buffet was always that bad because I always went to the dining room just to get out of my interior cabin. Now that I know the joy of a balcony, I'll get one from now on. Carnival is not going to cut it anymore!

    Can’t get a drinks 🍸 package here in Australian been on two going on my third soon and I checked again about a drinks 🍷 package because my husband likes it, he comes on the cruises with me just because he likes that part of the cruise 😂 and duty free cigarettes but apart from that in Australia carnival only offer a wine package 📦 for 5 bottles I think it is around 180 dlrs when I checked their site and bubbles package not with water is around 10 a day, I don’t know why they do not have the spirit package here, you can’t even take two bottles of wine on here with Carnival, would love to know why it’s like this here Don maybe you might be able to do some research on this, maybe they think Aussies drink too much 😂😂😂. In saying that I’m still going on another cruise with them got an amazing bargain to the pacific Islands 🌴 9 nights in extended balcony for 800 Aust dlrs so not complaining 🚢

    Could you imagine someone paying $52 a day for 15 $50 drinks thats $750. You could have saved $698 a day on drinks. That would be $4,886 on a 7 day cruise. That's nuts!

    I just wish they'd offer a "beer and coffee only" drinks package for about half of what the regular package costs. I don't drink much wine or any liquor really, and I don't like soda. Call it a $10 limit maybe. What beers are available on a cruise ship anyway? Is it only crappy stuff like Bud and Stella or do they have real beer?

    You need to drink at least 3 or 4 every day for this to be worth the price, if I have that right. Alcohol may not be health tonic, but if you’re gonna drink, you’re much better off drinking a bunch on one day, and then taking a few days off. 4 drinks every day is real self-abuse. It’s also hell on the immune system, which nobody mentions when the Norovirus spreads like wildfire around the ship.

    The crew is instructed implicitly or explicitly to have the cruisers spend as much as possible, is a way of scamming the tourists, specially if they are half drunk. I don't drink alcoholic beverages, only once in a blue moon, but if I would get the beverage package I would exhaust all the package every day, even if I don't drink it, I would pass along the excess of drinks to other people.

  • @jamesbecker4326
    @jamesbecker4326 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My question: So the cruise line adds on a $105 tip to your beverage package. over the whole trip, lets say I consume 20 beers, 10 whiskeys, and 10 wines. How does the $105 get divided up? by 40 drinks consumed, or by the total cost of the drinks then divided into the $105, it would never work out correctly if they (the cruise line) gave the employee 15%

  • @lucystar9001

    Carnival has a limit of 15? On sea days I exceed that (not in cocktails but shots, glasses of wine at dinner). Norwegian didn't have a limit. Definitely feel like I got my money's worth with Norwegians drink package. Don't think Id sail Carnival on an itinerary with lots of sea days.

    Assuming the drink package allows 15 drinks per day with a max of $20 per drink, why not give the passengers a budget of $300 per day to spend as they seem fit. I can't imagine downing 15 alcoholic drinks/specialty coffees per day (the calories alone would be too much for me), but if I had the option of buying a nice bottle of wine at dinner, and, perhaps, a nice single-malt scotch, and some nice champagne... I'd be satisfied and would stay within the $300 budget.

    • @kangarookid4623
      @kangarookid4623 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im no math genius but you realize what you are suggesting right? So they charge you about $50/day for the package but then you get to spend $300? Seems like carnival would be losing out on that deal. It's not groupon....$300 spending on board for $50!!! Lol

  • @jeffreygrimm7532
    @jeffreygrimm7532 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    15 drinks @ $20 each comes to $300 a day that you can get for just $52? Sounds like a deal to me. Norwegian charges an outrageous $90 a day for their drinks package (no limit on the # of drinks) but if you are drinking more than 15 alcoholic beverages a day, seek help. ; )

  • @lenorebonicioli612

    sounds like it is 15 drinks total right? maybe 3-4 alcohol drinks a few soda drinks, a few coffee, a few bottled water. If I am not correct, please correct me Don. I would think 15 alcohol drinks a day would make anyone drunk their entire trip and they would possibly not even remember it. ( or be able to walk around very well).

    • @GanzBestimmt
      @GanzBestimmt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      15 drinks over 24(or even just say 12-16 hours) hours is not that much tho. To make you a little bit dizzy for sure but to get and stay drunk or even blackout? Not really. But maybe I am an alcoholic. Don't know. Depends on the drink I guess. Maybe if you maximize your alcohol output by choosing just hard cheap liquors. ^^

    I think it is reasonable for normal people not to have to subsidize people who care that their drink is a $50 drink instead of a $20 drink. I think most people could only tell the difference if they were in the habit of buying $50 drinks every day. And I think those people don't need subsidies from everyone else. So the change is reasonable.

    I only have a drink a couple of times a year so I might have a glass of champagne at bon voyage time but I also love my virgin cocktails such as Bloody Mary's and strawberry coconut colada. My parents took a cruise to the Mediterranean at the Millennium and they didn't have to pay for drinks or food or classes the entire cruise was all inclusive. I don't mind paying for the drinks package and I don't need a bartending class although I would take a cooking class if it were a very famous chef that I know. I know several. I am looking to take a cruise in the next 18 months and I want to make sure I don't miss any of the changes but I'm also not terribly interested in family vacations. I have no living family and I'm not 75 either. I do use an electric wheelchair and I would like to know the limitations on that. If there are any limitations. I can walk some but not very far

      Good question. In theory contract law should apply IF you paid in full at the time you made the reservation, but cruise lines don't have to follow contract law so those early bookings will be subjected to the new rules.
