Nice to see a Betta in a big tank. Those poor creatures kept in micro tanks always look desperate - their movements are jerky. Yours is relaxed and content. Whoever came up with the idea that keeping a fish that size in a tiny cube is the way to go?

This was great and informative. I don't prefer to pay for acrylic, but if ever it's offered to me free or trade, I may try it. I've also seen others buff the scratches out of acrylic with little fuss. Anyway, my favorite will always be glass, it's traditional for me.

Amazing review, man!! Thank this video now I know that it's low-iron glass what I want.
I think acrylic is amazing... but convenient only if the aquarium is small and easy to clean.
I like to do things fast so acrylic will not last unscratched for too long with me.

Excellent video. I was just looking for the right type of glass to buy. Low iron it is, then. I loved the idea of acrylic, then I remembered how easily my psp screen used to get scratched. Then it occurred to me that this problem would be doubled with the risk of substrate abbrading the interior surface, which you just confirmed. I'm fortunate to have a place to put the tank where it can't be easily struck of knocked over.

Yah, better clean your acrylic tanks naked...cause EVERYTHING makes 'em scratch...belt buckles, keys in pocket, watches, jewlery...especially if you have a tall tank. Other than public aquariums and hotels I haven't seen a good looking "used" acrylic tank.

Thanks for making such a good video, it makes me much more confident that I was making the right choice for myself when I picked out my glass aquariums a few years ago when I got my last fish. I think low iron glass is what I will buy next time I want to get another fish tank for display purposes, I really like blue and I know I would probably scratch the acrylic ones within days and then I wouldn’t be able to see my fish at all, so even if the acrylic is more clear when it isn’t scratched the low iron glass is clearer than scratched acrylic or regular glass is, and even though the low iron glass is more expensive than regular glass I think it might be worth it for a bigger aquarium that has thicker glass because I would be able to see a significant enough difference, also I like the blue edges a lot, I think for smaller aquariums that I’m just using to grow fish food and algae and use for a filter and are not for anything I want to watch or display I will continue to buy the basic glass aquariums because I still need to see how the fish food and algae are growing through the sides of the tank so I still need to clean the side of the tank pretty often and I know I would badly scratch the acrylic ones also the basic glass small aquariums are less expensive overall than the other options because if they break I know how to fix them, I couldn’t fix acrylic tanks at all even if I knew how to do that because I might get acrylic dust on myself or get the dust on surfaces in the house while I was doing that and I am pretty badly allergic to anything that has acrylic particles in it interacting with my skin or body in any way.

A good part of light gets lost (reflected) at the surface, every time the light passes into an other medium. With four of these junctions (instead of two), you'd most likely end up with less clarity.
Also, different thermal expansion, "glue-compatibility" etc.: It could be tricky to get the manufacturing process right.

so I am looking at lifeguard aquatics crysta; low iron glass also Aqua max. So far these are the only 2 rimless 10 gallon I see. They advertised themselves as being low iron but must be low quality ora lie. because the seams are glued at a 45 degree angle and I see the green hue! The video of it filled looks gorgeous and clear Lifeguard 10 gallon crystal rimless is 79.99. Cheapest. I don't mind paying a little more and not appear green during the day or with no light. Any suggestions? There is a penn plax for 55.00 rounded corners. One piece. Just says glass I think. Is beautiful, and Sams club only 55.00. Leaning toward that. I am so confused. I just got a cheap plastic 5 gallon for my betta from petsmart. I liked the rim to hide water line as I know you know bettas like to gulp air, but I want to fill this to top. I was going to cut rim off a cheap glass aqueon for the rimless look but OMG the terrible silicone job! I dont notice green hue though. I havnt filled and was going to return. That was 10 bucks though...lol 1 buck a gallon sale! I Know a reef tank costs a fortune anyway.

My 20 gal aqueon tank had that greent int glass but it was thin didnt bother me. I had the mini acrylic betta tanks with the warped front or bow front, and that was fine for me.
    You can tell the difference.
    However ,
When i got a 55 gal tank from aqueon i was dozzy the first few days. The glass has the green tint, is thicker, so it distorts everything inside is horrible. You have to look at it dead straight, you cant stand on open spot and pan around the whole tanks or youl get dizzy. The thickness of the glass bends too much of the light.
I called a.manufsctures and they sed itl be 400 to build me a similar size tank with low iron glass. But the delivery will also cost 400 since they are in wisconsin or some stste over by the great lakes. Im in ny. I guess I'll find a low iron tank sold here somewhere. I was disappointed this sort of thing exits. As much as i love acrylic i wouldnt recomend it. While its durable. If you hate scratches and maintance, i would get it. Pay some extra money and get low iron glass.
The maintance fish tanks require is already costly and tidius. Adding the care of the tank and scratches is just more crap we shulndt deal with. Also heard microfiber towels and special tools made for acrylic tanks dont helps. And i can confirm this with my betta tanks

to clean 'any' acrylic, never use anything that is a glass cleaner and never use any paper towels.i am not trying to sell anything but this is a very good tip.my 1st prob was cleaning a motorcycle windshield.(costly item like aquarium, big screen tv..etc)go to mypilotstore.com. look for a product called all kleer.it was developed for aviation industry where you can not afford scratched/cloudy windows.a bottle was around $5.however,on that page they had cleaning cloth/micro fiber cloth.i got ten that are washable for $5.w/the shipping it was around $15 to the door.i have used it twice on my bike windscreen last summer and it was great.it took so little that you can barely tell i have used any out of the bottle.you can use this on prescript safety glasses,bike/helmet visors, out side of aquarium and you can use a plain/fresh/clean micro fiber cloth to wipe down inside of fish tank.read reviews on that website.it is for aviation use..where it ''has'' to be a good quality product.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn

ADA probably uses the high quality low iron glass. High quality ones are clearer. Every manufacturer uses different brand of low iron glass it seems. And there are slight differences in clarity. But if it's made for aquariums, usually they are clearer than regular glass.

A napkin was enough to scratch it......I knew they had delicate surfaces, because I've never seen one that actually looks clear, in person at least..... but wow, I can't even imagine trying to deal with algae,...... or even a snail's radula.....

Great informative video! And nice looking betta ☺
I did not know acrylic scratched that easily! Personaly, if I had gotten an acrylic tank, I (or the cat) would scratch it in a heartbeat. All that money for nothing.
Low iron glas looks amazing though!
