Energy/matter can neither be created nor destroyed, so the universe can't end. As a matter of fact, matter is an abstraction, energy aggregated in a certain way we call matter, so in the end it all comes down to energy.
+Leo SigloXX well the higgs boson would need a force we dont know yet, and it had to be kinda magical and instant, a particle to transfer the force wouldnt work
This is my theory. You know how he said that a long time ago, the universe was one small speck and then it exploded? Well, the reason the universe is still expanding is because it hasn't finished "exploding". There's still more things to stretch out and that's why it's expanding. Kinda makes sense xD but not really..
Leviana Rios As they said, they dont understand dark energy yet, So its all just speculation. They hardly know what dark energy IS, only that its all around the "edges" of the enitre universe however they probably have reasons to believe that its not just the explosion not being done exploding, science isn't an evil conspiracy
yeah sorry I just pressed reply, I meant to remove the Leviana Rios and just participate in the conversation actually. Sorry for making it so personal :p
So if the universe is expanding at 70,4 km/s per megaparsec, that means that we could make a craft (not now anyways) capable of going faster than 70.4 km/s per megaparsec. Theoretically, we could get past the universe which is expanding. What would happen?!
Well, the beginning is also fuzzy. We found a ring of galaxies (that shouldn't be) and there is galaxies moving into each other. Also, shouldn't there be a center of the universe if there was a singularity? Where it all expanded? So many mysteries that we as humans try our best to solve but we are so biased we like to assume we are 100% correct. And that is bad in science.
Alexander Inget But there was an expansion point. If we were correct, the singularity was not infinite. Why can we not find out where it was? I mean all that power and mass of an infinite universe enclosed in a singularity should still have some indication of where it was. I mean, yes the universe WAS the singularity. However, it was in one position. Why can we not find that position?
Because the universe is everything, then it cannot expand outward into anything but itself, therefore "every" point in space was the center of expansion. It's weird, but that's how it is..... In theory :p
Santiago Ramírez Those who neither change and become better are bound to stay in place as all move forward. Is that what you trully wish? To see all their is to see, but behind those who choose to better their heritage by passing the torch? Immortality is not divinity, it neither grants you the gift of change, health, or wisdom. Only a shell to behold all that change, wouldnt you rather be with those today, right now, toger while you can? At the time when I become god, I'll decide to 'die'. Technology advances each time faster and with it, we can improve our quality of lives. We'll be able to live longer... Imagine if Einstein was still alive... I want to feel and experience the unimaginable, basically to become god, but in some point, I don't want to, because perfection is boring. If you know everything there is know and if you are capable of doing anything... What are you? I mean, why are we here?! Well, there's no factual reason, everyone find their answer. My answer is to reach immortality. The human. A species capable of a lot of things and at the same time, nothing. We want to discover and unravel the secrets of the universe, but we're so far from that. If we always want to learn more, why not learn it all? Ignorance = Happiness It's so painful being worried about stuff right? Knowing what's coming, knowing what's happening... For those who seak for answers and find them, happiness is when they find an answer and know there are more questions behind the answer. "The more we know, the less we know."... Or something! I don't remember very well how that phrase was told. The thing is that happiness (ignorance) isn't necessarily good for any of us. I don't want to be a nobody, I want to be known. I want fiction to be reality. And maybe, reality to be fiction! All those amazing things we see in movies, why can't we do that? We have the capability of doing anything. I mean, really! What's the purpose to be happy in life and then, when you die you are ready? Like, really? Isn't there more? I don't want to follow the rules of life! I want to follow my own rules! If I believe in them, that would be my reality. When you die, you can't regret not doing something, because there's nothing after diying, you disappear. You become one with the universe. I know this is a little bit contradicting, but if I want to organize my ideas, it'll take some time. The thing is, that when I become a perfect being, and there's nothing else I can do, because there's no sense in living more. I'll just vanish and become like a universal force. That universal force is god. That's why we can't prove god exists (with science) I'll be all over the universe but a the same time not. I don't know how to explain it very well because I don't understand it so well, but I want to. My meaning of life is experiencing everything. So yeah... That's pretty much it. It's really difficult to explain.
0:35 "hubble also noticed that the majority of the galaxies were also speeding away from us". I thought he noticed that the light from the galasies was redshifted, and thereby CONCLUDED that they are speeding away. I might be wrong. but if my statement is true, then your statement is false
What is our universe expanding into? This is a question I've wondered for years now... There can't be nothing and their cant just be an infinite expansion of our galaxy... Multiple Universes blow my mind because what's beyond that horizon of the universes... What is that space that holds together all the multiverses and is there something beyond that?
Ha, Were the Muse lyrics references intentional? 2:43 - "A big freeze is heading our wayyy" And Supermassive Black Hole...probably just a coincidence but I think this Julian guy might be up to something.
We're stuck in a never ending loop where the Universe continues to expand and contract for all eternity. Believe it or not, we've all have lived and died before time and time again.
What if the universe keeps expanding in a circle and creates new layers each time it expands over an already set layer, hence parallel universes or multiverses. Think of it like putting wrapping paper over a Christmas present but you don't stop, you just keep adding more and more paper, hence layers. The Universe never stops expanding and forever creates new layers. Just a thought :)
My hypothesis is that the Universe is Infinite and at some point will just keep creating things out of nothing, because there is infinite energy in it,and the Universe will never end.
What if the universe is expanding like a balloon, and then finally reaches a point to where it "pops" and then rapidly collapses, and everything in the universe just instantly disappears as if it never existed.
Why is it this or that? Why not something in the middle? Like its stretches out then it get pulled back in and balances itself out? Does it have to be black or white?
Absolute Zero. I think said hypothetical number will play a role. What happens to any given particle when all potential and actual energy are removed to stop motion completely? E.g., a positive and negative particle are both stopped at the same moment due to all energy being removed, do they automatically slam into one another creating more energy? If so, can such a hypothesis be applied on a grand scale?
DNews at about the 4:00 he says the lynch pin of these two theories is Dark Matter, he meant Dark Energy. Dark Energy is the force that is accelerating Universe apart, while Dark Matter is the unobserved matter to account for the extra mass that is observed gravitationally. While we don't understand these two things there is also no a priori reason for these two concepts to be connected(at least any more connected than normal matter is to either), so it's shame there names are so close because this causes people to associate them together.
Just a quick question: What is space expanding into? What I'm trying to ask is in a balloon an air analogy ( space is air obviously) but what is the balloon consist of (the container of which space is expanding in) ?
Well when we die, do you guys think we will just be in non existence, reincarnated or sent to another life? I would like to think we are just souls or energies that are reborn again and again
Andre Bundy Life doesn't NEED to have a purpose, the universe doesn't NEED to have a purpose either, we can try to give it a reason, but that doesn't make it true. It's just something you need to accept.
unfortunatly your comment on hubble is wrong. he found everything to be speeding away from the earth, he found this to mean that space itself was expanding... not that the universe all started at one point
my explaination is that the whole universe was created by something in the future which ended the future but started the start of everything as we know it, like some messed up time loop, and what was there before the bigbang and before there was even particles and elements, what was created before the big bang happened to even make the big bang happen,.
The universe created us... so we could create the universe. Kind of like that one family guy episode. Seems kind of stupid to take information from that I know but it seems pretty possible.
It's funny they put this video up today. When just last night I was having an existential meltdown because I was thinking about what will become of me when I die.
"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" Is it possible that the Big Bang has happened multiple times, thus infinite universes? (And also the "opposite reaction" would that be a reflection of our universe or the end of our universe?)
What happens if you go outside the boundary of the universe? Since the universe is expanding, that must mean there's an edge. What's outside the boundary? are there any theories? (and what is the shape of the universe?)
My theory is that the universe is a four dimensional donut which the surface rotates in one direction and we're located at the hole of the donut and that's why it looks like the universe's expansion is accelerating.
Isn't the expansion of the universe speeding up because the galaxies are moving apart and so there is less gravity between them as time continues? Less gravity would make then fly away faster
Can someone explain the theory that if you keep flying towards the edge of the universe, youll end up where you started. I always fry to imagine this but never really understood it..
I don't think it's "accelerating"... a big tire covers more distance than a smaller one going slower. so yes universe is expanding but maybe it appears like it's accelerating to us but it's only just getting bigger so it's cover more space faster. possible or not?
What happens to consciousness and unconscious after death? Because I cannot accept that we just stop and can't exist anymore it just doesn't seem possible.
Jack Graybird Not impossible to be known. When we get to planets with life outside of Earth, we WILL know. How do you think we got here? A meteor or comet landed with life. That life reproduced in water, and eventually became multi-cell organisms. Yotta yotta yotta, over an amount of time incomprehensible to people, it evolved into the world we have now. "Alpha creatures" were single-celled organisms at one point. We weren't born "alpha creatures", we all come from the same tree of life. We will evolve into a new creature more fit to survive.
Witness The "reason" for the universe being vast is what I call impossible to be known. We will never know the reason why we and this universe exist. Don't get me wrong, I used the term "alpha creatures" to describe any dominant and superior creature on a certain planet, which in our case Humans are the current alpha-creatures of Earth. I'm not trying to build an argument thread here, I'm just sharing an idea/speculation which you may think absurd but who knows maybe it's true maybe not. I strongly believe in Science but I also believe there's still a supreme reason and origin for everything. Even Einstein believed in God's role on creation of the universe.

The Aladdin reference made me so happy.
It never will end, it cant.
It can and they just told you how
God created the universe this vast so His Alpha-creatures from all planets won't meet. This is why Aliens never visit us.
Jack Graybird you Christians seem to be unable to think. Evolution will send us to another planet.
Witness I'm not a creationist. I'm an advocate of evolution. I'm just being speculative on something so impossible to be known.
We will evolve into a new creature more fit to survive.
why do you try to unterstand everything with god?
the universe is big, but most probably not because someone doesnt want us to see other beings
