Warframe's character design would probably have a ton of SJWs up in arms if they ever discovered the games. I don't really see what the point of arguing over this is. Japan has it's great games (mostly triple a) and the west has theirs (mostly indie.) Plus at the end of the day what mainly matters is if a game is fun or not.

Work of Art is just not the same anymore. Back in the day if you wanted your game to be considered as "art" it needed to be a truly unique experience. Nowadays vast majority of the western triple A games are literally just your typical souless ubisoft style open world action games or generic looter shooter with minor role playing elements.
The only good Western developers are mainly European developers and some of them are starting to suck and Sucker Punch and Santa Monica are the only good American developers I can think of

I extremely disagree, western art is considered some of the greatest and famous of all time. From the days of classical Greece to the modern day. People can shit on the west all they want, but you can’t deny that the west arguably contributed the most to humanity. Especially art. It’s just that the west is dying now, the days of Rome and Athens are over now sadly.

In his book On Writing Stephen King says that whenever he writes a story, he never has a message or a theme in mind during the initial creation process, that just comes naturally with the story. Plus a lot of times it’s open to one’s own interpretation
It's really the triple a western devs that don't seem to understand that. (With a few exceptions like gta.) If you wanna find some good western games, I recommend trying out some indie titles.

@@symptomofsouls exactly, while the switch isn’t the most powerful system, it has amazing ports (for the system, like doom and outer worlds amount others) it has no censorship in its games (but it has no web browser). Nintendo makes the best 1st party games in general, the switch supports some AppStore games, it’s portable, you can play on a tv (unless you have a lite like me) it’s battery life is acceptable (between 2-4 hours depending on what you are playing) the switch itself has no real issues except for the drift the earlier models had. And the switch has a very expansive library for being out for only 3 years. Switch online leaves much to be desired in some games but is overall pretty good

Same things applies to certain characters in games
Characters like Tifa Lockhard, Mai Shiranui, Samus Aran etc are impossible to be labeled as ugly. you can most definitely feel no attraction to them and that's fine but there's no way in hell you can look at those characters and go "nah fam they are ugly"

It's like they just can't end a character's story and move on to something new, instead they have to rewrite batman another thousand times because the last 5 million weren't enough.
All I ever see are "hero" comics being sold, I can't think of one comic that's come from the big boys that wasn't just someone i've already seen just "reimagined".
The difference between American comics and Japanese manga is that American comics will try to fit as many tropes into one story as possible instead of having multiple stories revolve around a single one.
Japan has shonen, shojo, isekai, and many others, and each is filled with thousands of different artist's visions and interpretations. 'Reincarnated as a slime' and 'redo of a healer' are both fall under the fantasy trope and yet have almost nothing in common besides that because both creators wanted to tell their own story.
American comics will keep using the same established characters from the last 80 years because then they don't have to come up with something new, and that's why manga and indie comics have been absolutely destroying them in sales and will continue to do so until something changes.

I think this man is wrong. The Western games industry has a whole raft of problems with cliques, marxists, postmodernists and all the other things that Western everything has problems with now. But really for the most part Western character designs are fit for purpose, something like tLoU2 is still pretty unusual. Most of the bigger Western games are more on the realistic looking end, and most of the characters in them are either average or fairly good looking. I don't see how something like GTA5 would benefit from more attractive characters, nor do I see tLoU2 being good if Abby wasn't a weird steroid monster.

Just look at TLOU 2, the actual game aside, the character models, facial animation- hell, nearly every animation and the environment are fucking gorgeous. Even older games like Uncharted 4 have beautiful realistic animation. Ni No Kuni on the other hand, is far from realistic but it's amazing to look at as well. Breath of The Wild has lots of excellent views. Just because it looks realistic don't mean it's automatically ugly, and just because it has an anime look or cartoony style doesn't mean it's awful automatically too 🤦🏽♂️
