I felt sad for Nel when she admitted her feelings… and then later I realized that unless the Alear of this world is just outright Lumera’s child and not Sombron’s, their love is a little… I’m not sure how to feel about this
Yeah… that’s what I was thinking. I’m under the assumption that everyone still holds the same familial relations except for Nel and Nil living to the present day. If they exist as Sombron’s children, same as Veyle of that world, then that would mean that Alear is also still a child of Sombron. Questionable choice for their story.
Okay, the corrupted twist WAS a shock, it's... pretty humbling. Oh wow, that person being the traitor, though? What a twist, wooooow, never saw it coming, absolute horror, claps all around, no sarcasm at all.
To be completely honest with you, the plot twist with “Nil” actually felt like a legitimate plot twist that was actually shocked by. I thought Evil Veyle was going to be the antagonist of this route (I didn’t think she was dead like Alear).
The version of Alear from this world is shown to have completely blue hair instead of the red/blue mix, so maybe they were actually Lumera's child and not Sombron's. Or it's just incest. Wouldn't be the first time in Fire Emblem.
So finally Fire Emblem took the risky path and started playing with romance between siblings. As an avid fan of Game of Thrones I don't mind but it's still weird considering it's intend to be a Nintendo videogame.
Fire Emblem has always had that sorta stuff. While they try to hand wave the sibling romances in Fates with "we're not actually blood related even if you thought we were" but Azura is just your actual cousin. But regardless don't think Nel and the Alear of her world were siblings since I think its simply Alear of that world was just Lumera's child.

If the twins are Alear & Veyle's siblings, what about their eldest siblings?
They are dead in both universes. So far only Veyle and Alear are alive in the main timeline while Nel and Nil are alive in the alternate one.
