This is by far the best interview ever. Questions are just true and insightful rather than the usual fluff interview questions that some interviewers asks. LOVE ITTTTT
It is fascinating to hear Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie talk about the nuanced nature of what is happening, or what the unspoken effects are with this celebration of diverse groups. Are we becoming more integrated and pluralistic or are we dividing even further under the guise of diversity? Or Is this just part of the process in re-balancing what has been so uneven for so long? These questions and concerns are provocative and useful to hear. I really appreciate the interviewer here, with their questions and their aura, for bringing this out of these two women!
There's no need to push their agendas on people. There was gender and racial diversity before. Back when we had the cosby show, the fresh prince of belair, kenan and kell and tons of black movies and series around (cause its really all about the blacks... They dont really care about us hispanics if we're honest.) The only issue is the USA is a country where the black community is incredibly small. Even the hispanic community is bigger. And it is, at large, a white country. It's embarassing that white people are letting themselves be stomped by these nutjobs. Movies are made for an audience. Go to japan and tell me if japanese people make movies with caucasian leads. No. And btw...the amount of people I've heard say this movie is terrible is outstanding.
I wanted more of this! It was an amazing dive into what we are doing as a society, why, and what is the outcome (of course in more discourse than that but you feel me)
Salmas comment about taking it so extreme that we are just self-segregating is SOOOOO ON POINT. (Angie is also right about there being a period where you need the extreme to rebalance the past lack of)
This is not just an interview but a conversation we needed for all of us to listen and also act. The values this film and the cast bring to the table. Humanity
Amazing interview. You really engaged the minds of these outstanding, intelligent women. I would love to see more interviews like these with other actors to see if they can hold a matchstick next to these two powerhouses.
First off amazing REAL interview and discussion between three humans. I loved how each of the participants really brought themselves to the conversation. I have been a fan of Angelina since I was 9 she inspired me to open up the world outside my country and also to a multicultural search for empathy that culminated so far in an Intercultural Counseling MA. Two things stuck out to me. 1. around 8:30 when AJ discusses how when people who are not authentic it makes her uncomfortable and always speaking her mind as was there really ever another way -- as a fellow divergent and ASD I felt seen and heard not just in the movie but even in this interview. 2. As an academic I think there is something very important with not only having the experiences but doing the research. It was a bit hard for me to listen to Salma at pts because she doesn't seem to grasp what Angelina was discussing on a deeper level. The counterbalance. Salma discusses an ideal world -- which I hope we get closer too -- but Angelina was more rooted in where we are and the work we need to do. Even getting a deaf character in film, and older women who are bad ass super heroes is also centering the margins. All important work and thank you people for all that you do
I absolutely love this interview. I just love how they actually delved more into more in-depth topics and the representation of this film beyond the superhero surface.
Finally an interview where they really discuss what the movie is attempting to do. I personally have a divided opinion. In the one hand, this movie feels like Marvel being desperately seeking for attention. The marketing strategy feels a little bit ridiculous and over the top for me. In the other hand, racism in the US is getting worst, people do need to be reminded/educated about respecting others. Anyway, I completely agree with them, they spoke my mind.
I agree with Salma and it is technically not rebalancing. "Doing it out of respect and not political correctness" is very similar to how I personally say I am waiting to see if this was just another trend rush, or if they truly understand the importance of diversity and stand to implement it. Salma also mentions the confusion of so many conversations that truly leads to two roads in the eyes of society and as an immigrant, was not necessarily how she envisioned it cuz the truth is it's really not that way and no need to be in a box. Rebalancing should not be about just Mexican movies now or just African-American movies now to prove the embrace of diversity. She's talking about blended family, cast, characters, just like Eternals and it should come naturally instead of being emphasized into the character. Hence she said "Are we uniting, seperating, or segregating into more boxes." Rebalancing like Angie was emphasising isn't what's being referenced here. Personally, I am here for a super blended movie where everyone is written naturally and in true form.
I thing that her concept of diversity is a unique way of thinking, is not a racial problem, and a movie isnt worst for being all whites, and not good for been with different races
@@khpassheartshearts36 True, no one is saying a movie is bad for casting only one race in it. However, she's speaking about her view on diversity and how she would love more of a blended cast as compared to segregated cast in the diversity front.

The “re-balancing” that Ms. Jolie spoke of is necessary. Ms. Hayek is feeling what man of us - people of color - have been feeling. There’s a slight, though. People of color normally don’t get those opportunities, so a re-balancing needs to occur for that to happen. An amazing conversation with heart and intellectual ideas. Leave it to women, to actually make change. ❤️
Something that Salma said really stood out to me bc I think it perfectly captures diversity. "I just want to wait for the day when it's done out of respect and not out of political correctness"

When they show up and visit Phastos, who cares if he's gay- they are shocked he has a family because he said that he gave up on humans, and he's doing the most human thing ever. I guess they kind of address his sexuality when he says "I am not ashamed of anything in my life created or chosen", but its a very subtle line and you miss it due to the place in the film where it happens- and its probably about choosing to walk away from the eternals and also to bring a child into the world when its so bad- and he knew he would have to watch his husband and child die. This is ABSOLUTELY the world that I want to live in. I dont care how many people say thats "erasure" or whatever- someday, I want someone to see me as human, not as these "differences" that have to be addressed. TRULY we do not need to address them if we respect each other as humans. I'm a queer, racialized female. Someday, I really dream of someone just looking at me, and what my life is, and going "wow youre so basic", lol! I enjoyed this movie because its a nice popcorn flick- but it has stuck with me for days afterwards because it reflected something that I had never realized I was missing. Also, the way they allowed everyone to have different opinions on how to go forward with the plan, and they let one character walk away and didnt cut them off for being wrong... like really please we need more of THAT.
Angelina has always been someone that gave me a wierd impression or feeling...(not going to lie it's probably based upon her Billy Bob days) but after watching this video I actually really like her. She has been shown as real, as a woman, and mother, and human in a way I really haven't seen from her before. I've always loved Salma...I just want to say ty to you the interviewer...I have not seen your channel before..you ask great question, you are very respectful and observant and prepared, and you touch on diversity in more ways than 1. I think this movie is amazing and these 2 are spectacular in their mindset. It's so true that there is duality in things and I think that's why this movie is getting so much hate. There are a lot of close minded people out there still. They don't understand the subject.
I was thinking the same, and I think it's about the diversity of the film had that some of not really open minded people it turns out beyond they're expectation.
Wow ! Two superwomen !! Who knew Salma was so fu ny. Had Angie in stitches.. so warm and genuine ! loved it ! These guys should be in more movies together !
That question that included the phrase " represents what the world actually looks like" is one of the BEST questions ever, anywhere. people are so focused this days in their own little world... GREAT GREAT question.
Towards the end they were touching on something important that I haven't even really wrapped my head around yet. For so long in America, whiteness has been the norm, and for a movie to play internationally, the conventional wisdom dictated that it be led by white actors. Now we are in this period of "rebalancing" (I love that AJ drew a parallel line with repatriation, I think it's such a useful framing) but like SH was saying, while there is undoubtedly more representation of different experiences, ethnicities, backgrounds, it does still feel quite segregated! Within this industry, it is still the conventional wisdom that Black films about Black experiences are almost solely for niche, Black audiences. This is part of the reason _Black Panther_ was such a big deal -- it was very Black but it was for everyone and it played well internationally. So coming back to the idea of rebalancing, I think, or rather hope, that AJ is speaking with prescience; that we are in a transitory period where the scales are being adjusted to correct for all the decades that anything not white was pushed to the margins. And hopefully, there will come an end to this phase and diversity of casts _and_ audiences can just be "normal," like AJ's family. Part of what is particularly exciting about this franchise is that you can see the rebalancing work being done _and_ see what we all hope is the end result in the team-up / Avengers films where all these disparate worlds collide and the differences and strengths of team members are complementary and celebrated. Perhaps in the next Avengers movie we'll have Shang Chi and Blade and the diverse Eternals all come together and fashion that "integration" into one facet of an emerging reality.

Hi and Hello Ms Angelina Jolie and Ms. Salma Hayek. I was remember and remembering when I was a child and kid I'm always admire of yours voice in the stage of Hollywood for the EQUALITY AND GENDER IDENTITY in the words of "WHO WE ARE" AND RESPECTS AND RESPECTING TO EACH OTHERS BY THE VOICE OF Ms. Angelina Jolie
Two of the most attractive women , our forever crush, Angelina you reminds us of someone with the same name, not that typical Korean beauty but attractive and unconventional looks like you, not into fashion but looks stunning in whatever she wears. Salute to two QUEENS 🎉
Agreed it seems like we are breaking into boxes by adding diversity which is great but we are not INTERGRATING our diversity. Which is key, if not we are all just doing the same comfortable thing we’ve been doing for years and only react when we are taken out of the comfort zone. Why? Well naturally if you’ve never been exposed then how is normalization of the fact that we are different and still the same ever going to happen.
"I JUST NOW I WANT TO WAIT FOR THE DAY WHEN IT'S DONE OUT OF RESPECT. AND NOT OUT OF POLITICALLY CORRECTNESS". WEEE ALL SEE THIS. EVERYWHERE. With all the companies. Now all the beauty brands have 40+ foundation shades when they used to have like 5 for yeeears. NOW they want to be inclusive uh? That goes for movies, series, clothes... Whatever you can put a price on.
Salma Hayek in the first sentence: It is so nice that women can be so immature for such a long time now that they have less responsibilities. Angelina has aged nicely. Salma has aged... healthily. I like how Angelina's role in Eternals really reflects her mental instability in real life. You can really see the sadness in her eyes in this interview. Her latest roles and productions also show her inner loneliness and depression. Salma is not as grounded. She is getting more confident with age and keeping up the irresponsible party girl within. She is an optimist by nature in contrast to Angelina. Too bad the US is monetizing and using for political propaganda through fake neo-liberal movements these beautiful femininities :)
Angelina and Salma should have a talk show together. Seriously.
I know they should I agree with 100%

With all the companies. Now all the beauty brands have 40+ foundation shades when they used to have like 5 for yeeears. NOW they want to be inclusive uh? That goes for movies, series, clothes... Whatever you can put a price on.
Unconditional support ❤

they are both high 😭
Salma Hayek in the first sentence:
It is so nice that women can be so immature for such a long time now that they have less responsibilities.
Hayak. is. simple. and freeness. women. .but. joli. is. simple. and. good. understanding. women.
