Sounds like Graham James - he doesn't namecheck himself and none of the in-vision continuity from the closedown now survives - bringing Granada to a close for yet another day.

Graham James absolutely. For some reason he seemed to hate doing in-vision continuity.

I vote for Graham James, too! I've lived in the Granada region all my life, I'd recognise Pope with both ears tied behind my back (as it were), and that's not Jim Pope. Definitely Graham James.

Interesting that you get those two confused, Colm - I always find them quite distinct, not just in timbre but in tone and their whole approach to broadcasting.
This has to be earlier than the other two closedowns, with only two ILR stations plugged at the end.

Indeed, a lot of the smaller ILR stations would close very early indeed, a la Radio 1 in the 70s. So this could easily be 1983.

Two votes to one there. [changes description]

Quite hard to tell, isn't it? We guessed at Jim Pope having just listened to him do the same routine on the previous video. If you listen to Graham James first, it then sounds like him. Hmmm...

Makes a change for me - I usually get Jim Pope and CW mixed up, but I'm sure it's neither of them here.

If you'd like this dated you could send me the tape and I'll try and get it from the teletext.

The rest of this tape was 1983 material, but that's never been a useful guide to when stuff was actually recorded. The lack of Red Rose Radio suggests 1982, but were they 24-hours when they first started? And if not, were they really off air by 00.20?

Red Rose Radio started off 18h a day 6am-12am then went to 19h a day 6am-1am and then 6am-2am before eventually embracing 24h a day operation.
