It's not giving up on the other person, it's saving the innocent victim that often must take presidence.
I feel this daughter's pain, my my mom's dad would drink himself drunk and yeah, I was glad he stopped drinking and now he's in heaven now with the rest of my grandparents

Bottom line is "IT'S A THINKING DISEASE" not a "DRINKING, DRUGGING, ETC DISEASE". One has to be in a proper mindset to start the road to Recovery and must want the change for themselves and not for anyone or anything else. It starts with beginning to love oneself again and to do that I personally recommend going to Therapy along with any other Recovery methods suited best for you. For me personally I was a HARD CORE alcoholic and drug addict and failed the first 6 Rehab Facilities (if that tells you anything) solely because I was doing it for ALL the wrong reasons (to keep my job, to keep my Family together, to save face amongst so called friends, etc). It wasn't until I decided I had to want it and do it for myself that I walked into my 7th Rehab Facility. That was 18yrs ago and I haven't picked up ANY mood altering substance since thankfully. It wasn't easy by any means but continued Therapy plus daily meetings everyday for over 15 months is what I HAD to do to stay moving forward. I continued seeing my Therapist for over 5yrs until THEY decided and not me that I could terminate session's. During this time I lost a son tragically and just 2yrs later I lost my husband tragically right before my eye's. So no it wasn't easy but was well worth it. I know as long as I follow my program I'm safe. I know if I discontinue any part of what I'm doing now to stay sober it'll lead me right back down that black tunnel. If anyone even remotely thinks they have a problem reach out to a Helpline for starters just to bounce your thoughts off on an unbiased person. Only YOU know if you really have a problem. Some people can drink Socially and Alcohol is not a problem for them but I am not one of those people. Year's ago when I used to drink I just kept drinking until all the Alcohol was gone or until I passed out. I'm pleased you made the choice to stop drinking ❤

I have a former coworker who liked to drink and she ended up getting cirrhosis of the liver. The girl was just 39 years young when she died; she had her whole life ahead of her

Sometimes a person will hit their limit and it is best for that person to leave the addict alone if the addict is not willing to change. We cannot change the person if the person is not willing to change theirself.

This is a real life situation in many lives of people today, I've beenfromAlcoholanddrugs over 24 or 25 yrs@VPS
