FCA Stellantis started installing a security gateway module on 2018 vehicles that prevent DIYers and mechanics from fully troubleshooting a vehicle. Unless you register the scan tool with FCA and pay a yearly subscription. This limitation affects all scan tools. The good news is that it is possible to bypass this limitation without paying a yearly subscription and simply by using Chrysler 12+8 adapter available online.
If you are troubleshooting a 2018 and newer Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat, or Alfa Romeo, you can read codes from ALL the modules and view live data.
You cannot clear codes or carry bidirectional tests or any resets without bypassing the security gateway module. Does the 12+8 adapter still work? I used one on a 2018 Dodge Charger through the adapter but I couldn’t access bidirectional options.

Is this process dependent on bidirectional obd2 scanners??? Are you using a 12+8 cable?
I cant seem to get a straight answer from 5 videos watched....

On this video we are not using the 12+8 cable. So you can read codes and see live data but can not clear codes or send any bidirectional commands to the car since we are not connected with the 12+8 cable. If you for example try to clear codes the car will not allow.
