2020 DK Melee Techs Guide

Hey everyone, this is the 2020 DK Melee Techs Guide.
It's been a while, but its now finally here! The 2020 Melee Guides are 29 projects, meant to document as much Melee techniques into video form while being generally enjoyable videos to watch.
Special shoutouts to the Smash@Stockton and NJ SSBM scenes! Without them, I probably would not have had the drive to want to finish these guides.

Down B only hits grounded opponents, but that doesn't specify they need to be on the _same_ ground as DK.
On taller characters like Samus and Falcon, you can sometimes connect with Down B from on top of a side plat, while the opponent is on the main stage.
This can also work on shorter characters if they're using a move that extends their hurtbox upwards, like an up-tilt or up-smash.

I'm just now getting into melee and thankyou so much for putting this stuff somewhere where it is easily accessible and for making it all easy to understand. You rock. Without your videos, I don't think I could've found many (if any at all) resources for DK that are this in-depth.
(P.S. I'm having some trouble with Giant Punch Turnaround Bair. Can it be done out of short hop or do you need to full hop to do it? Thank you again

Hey sorry for the late reply, you can do it out of a short hop but it is very difficult. You have to cancel the charge at the earliest point and hit the Bair, and you else the Hitbox won’t come out in time. Much easier with a full hop.

for the inital grounded up-B, do you know if it's boths hit box that have a good knockback on frame 3-5 or just the arm that is in the air ?

Both have a good hitbox but the first hit on the front whiffs on a lot of characters because of the z axis

Can someone please tell me *HOW* I can learn how to play one of the less common characters like DK or Dr. Mario??? (I can't find a single guide for some of the characters in Melee)

@@thirdchair9670 I wasn't asking about how I can learn matchups. I was asking about how I can learn how to PLAY as the characters that are less common in Melee.

How to play involves understanding a character fundamentally so work on knowing what your moves do, how they hit / cancel, and become a master with being able move around with them. Look at what a top player does and try to emulate the movement you see. For video footage on How to Play, I’m not super sure what’s out there for each which is why again you should ask the character discords because they are more likely to know.
