Have you had a chance to ride a mixed wheel "mullet" bike yet? Is it even on your radar? I've absolutely loved riding these bikes the past few weeks... also been spending time on the mixed wheel Ibis HD6 for a few weeks... loving it!! Would you consider a mixed wheel bike for your next trail bike?
I'm so glad someone finally did this video! I LOVE my BronsonMX. I never thought a bike could make me feel so stable in the air jumping. I have felt the rear wheel hangup in jank but in steep tech the Bronson shines. And Yes, the MULLET setup meets all the Hype! It's the dream.
Thx for reviewing those two bikes, It help with my decision. Definitely ripmo 3 important things. Possibilities to swap wheels. Cable routing for derailleur Playfulness it’s more fun 😊 👍🏻
Just mulletted my 2019 Bronson V3. Flip chip on high, bars slammed but using Spank Vibrocore with 50 mm rise. I love it. Never liked analog full 29ers on all mountain or enduro bikes, but the 29er up front to eat the holes does help- less having to lift the front wheel so a bit less fatigue as I get older- and about half a degree slacker makes for a bit more confidence when going steep. Love the way the 27.5 rear wheel carves a turn and how it spins up faster from a stop making powering up steeps or slow going in pedal tech easier. By keeping the bars lower on the stem but using a higher rise bar I brought the bars up without bringing them back to help offset the slacker HTA and STA (also moved my seat forward a bit) so really no front end lift and no crazy gymnastics needed to prevent it on any trails I can ride up. Love the full 29er of my Ibis Oso though. When you have a motor to help, weight and wheel diameter doesn’t matter.
Never been able to pass that rooty corner on Twist and Shout. I was hoping you guys were going to run through it to see the line. Great video. I loved my Switchblade set up mixed wheel. Fire Swamp is the bomb!
Fire Swamp is sooo good!! Yeah, we didn't end up cleaning that section of twist and shout... I've done it before but I think it's more difficult today than in years past..... tough spot for sure!
Thanks for another great video Jason. Have you been on the new Bronson yet? I'm curious what your opinion would be on that compared to the old one and the new Ripmo MX.
I wonder how the Ripley in MX mode compares to the Santa Cruz 5010 v5. That would be a good review. Ibis really hit it out of the park with the new Ripley and Ripmo being 29er and MX. It's the best of both worlds.
As bikes get really good across the board I really enjoy reviewers try and find ways to use words to express such small nuance 🤣 feels like all reviews of similar travel bikes from major players can just be "pick the one you think looks the best"
Great video Jason, still can't wait to hear your HD6 video that I'm sure is coming. A couple of points... The new VPP feels really bottomless and its known for its traction and suppleness. DW is known for this playfulness and amazing climbing ability hardtail like. Suspension: New Rockshox vs Fox. Fox gives you more of a feel of the trail beneath you, crisp feel, new Rockshox stuff really dampens the trail, dulls the chatter vs crisp on the chatter with insane small bump sensitivity but when things get rough the last travel stroke is stable, control feeling, and confidence inspiring. Fox is loud rear shocks but Rockshox are silent. Have Rockshox superdeluxe ultimate on the Ripmo v3 and its so much quieter than the fox and feels deeper and plus in the travel. Now have a Vivid also on order just to see how it will feel on the Ripmo v3.
curious if you tried climbing on these setups. I watched your ripmo review but wondering how the mullet setup impacted that climb. I like the idea of the mx setup but I climb a bunch in corner canyon and dont want to negatively impact that by too much. guessing the ripmo climbs better?
Awesome video! Tuning tip, try a cascade link on the Bronson. It improves every aspect of how the bike rides (climbing and descending), especially on the square edge hits and hang ups you are feeling.
Maybe. I get to ride a number of different bikes with both shock brands… feel like I got a pretty good feel for the bikes after a bunch of rides over the past few weeks.
I purchased my 2023 Specialized Levo SL with the mullet wheelset and rode it for 3 months that way. Changed to a full 29er and found it had a lot more stability and speed with that setup. But, I am 200+ pounds which seems to have made the 29er wheels a better choice.
Both the 34 and 36 GripX on the Ripley and Ripmo felt meh compared to my previous experiences with the Grip2 34 and 36..... not sure if I just got wonky ones or what but so far, I prefer the old Grip2 over the GripX. Time will tell and I'm sure I'll get more opportunities to ride these forks on different bikes.
@@mtbyumyum Im not thrilled with my GripX either, feels smoother on smaller stuff like pebbles than the Fit4 that I had but not much better on everything else. I figured Fox would have figured it out by now, so I thought the GripX would be a dream. But now Im broke and disappointed lol.
Another great review, Jason. I like hearing about how the bike feeeeel in real world applications, not just tech specs. I’m curious out of these two, which one handles steep chunky technical descending better? Did the Bronson’s stability and “safe” feeling carryover to those situations a little better than the Ripmo?
Luckily I was able to ride loose steep chunky trail on both bikes and I wouldn't say there was a clear winner. Both bikes had the same tires too! I would still give the nod to the Bronson in stability and "stuck to the ground" feeling.
@@mtbyumyumthere’s no way Jase would take a SC over an Ibis 😂👍🏾 both great bikes but for me personally I’ve never understood the Bronson: it doesn’t climb or descend good , it’s ok at both but the Nomad climbs almost as good but it descends 100 times better, just my opinion as most people want a good all round bike! Great video though Jason looked fun 🙌🏼
@@Cartsp70 Thats interesting, almost bought a Bronson last year but the guy at the shop had a Nomad and recommended that. I thought he was crazy, but he said it was so plush that he couldn't go back.
Have you done slow speed tech climbing and descending on the Bronson, like they have in Southern Utah and Arizona? Would be interested in your opinion on the 2 bikes in technical climbing and descending
Great review. I'm sure you can't go wrong with either both awsome bikes, however I'd say the Ripmo probably is a much better climber. Someday i may upgrade to the V3 from the V2 but damn that's allot of $ for now anyway 😊
Sounds like the Ripmo MX is quickly becoming a favorite! Curious how you score the Ripmo MX against your favorite SB140. Would also love to hear how the Ripmo MX size medium compares in fit to the SB140 medium.
Swapping back and forth between the v3 Ripmo and current SB140, the Yeti sta feels extra steep and I prefer the overall fit and feel of the Ripmo. Ripmo also feels softer and smoother... I should have a video comparing the two coming soon
I don’t know, bud great video but I can only own one bike and I have an SP 140 right now that I’m absolutely loving, but I like new shiny things. I’m 5 foot nine and you own my bike do you think the Ritmo mullet is more playful than your 140
Yeah, I've always really appreciated that about Ibis.... That said, I think this bike is just different than anything I've ridden from Ibis in the past... I've spent so much time on Ibis bikes that past few years, all of which have the light traction tune... so I'm familiar with that rear shock feeling. This new Ripmo is extra smooth in my experience!!
Do you have any advice on shock set up. I just did the mx on my ripmo and it feels not as plush and my arms are exhausted from hilding on, lol I have a lyric up front and dvo on rear@mtbyumyum
Thanks for another great video! I'm considering to upgrade my Yeti SB130 LR with Cascade Link (139mm travel) w/ 150mm Fork to the Yeti SB140 LR, Ibis Ripmo V3 or potentially the new Santa Cruz HIghtower that is supposed to come out in the next 2 month. I'm curious watch a video how you compare SB140 LR (Full 29er) and the Ripmo V3 (Full 29er).
A "Mullet" is a haircut that's business in the front, pleasure in the rear, *_SHORT_* in the *_FRONT_* *_LONG_* in the *_REAR_* so 27.5" front for superior steering & handling, 29" in the rear (where the most weight is) for superior traction & roll-over performance. To be fair. Since the Ripmo is the 'new' model, you should do the comparison with the latest Bronson that was just released. Overall, though, I've always enjoyed your takes! 🤙

No, I'm a purist, somehow it seems wrong, like red-neck incest. Would never do it, but its ok for other people! lol
Yeah, Turbo Levo, wish it was full 29. Rear wheel gets loose.
haha
Got a Heckler SL a couple months ago (mullet). Corners sooooo good. My Ripmo V2S is still amazing though. 😊
MX is the dream! It meets and exceeds all the hype around it. All the front wheel rollover of a 29er and the corning of a 27.7.
I'm so glad someone finally did this video! I LOVE my BronsonMX. I never thought a bike could make me feel so stable in the air jumping. I have felt the rear wheel hangup in jank but in steep tech the Bronson shines.

How did the mullet Ripmo do on local trails compared to the Bronson?
Ripmo is more easy going and more fun on trails that are more moderate
I think you just described the difference of the 2 different suspensions. I like rockshox for the plushness.
Maybe. I get to ride a number of different bikes with both shock brands… feel like I got a pretty good feel for the bikes after a bunch of rides over the past few weeks.
I always thought Fox was more on the plush side but haven't been able to compare myself.
Thanks for another great video. Please get your hands on the new bronson.
Working on it!

Interesting. Thx!
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it✌️
I'm a MX Fanboi... although, I've never purchased a stock MX bike!?
I turn rigs into MX steeds 🤘
Interesting. I did that a few years back on a 27.5 Rocky Mountain Altitude… it was fun but didn’t feel like these newer purpose built mx rigs.
@@mtbyumyum Some bikes are MX Steeds stuck in 27.6 or 29 bodies... and it's 'our' mission to set that inner beast free 🤘
MX FTW!! 😎😁🫡
What stem is that on the Ripmo?
Very short Oneup stem.
And the ripmo can transform into the ripley by swapping out linkage
I would take the Ripmo for its smoothness.
💯 that bike is crazy smooth… very fun to ride on just about any trail. What a great do anything bike!!
