I think EINAR SELVIC IS BEST MUSICIAN IVE HEARD IN YEARS HIS MUSIC HAS BRAUGHT ME THROUGH VERY TOUGH TIMES LOSING MY WIFE AND FRIEND AND CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART TO OVARIAN CANCER AND 28 friends in 14 YEARS OFF WAR IN BRITTISH MILITARY ELITE
This is by far one of the best versions live! "Hagall (Hailstone) is balancing on a knife edge between creation and destruction - it cleanses/kills ‘the old’ to make room for the new."
The wanderer, the spirit, the one eyed wisdom. The ones without destiny, on the beach they lay. His passion, his will, his breath gave life. He pierces your soul like the Ravens eye.
I think the chant at the beginning is them invoking the four dvergar ( dwarves) for east, south, west, then north... Kom austre... kom suðhri... kom vestri... kom norðhri... Something like that, anyone else who has better than intermediate Norwegian language skills able to help me out?? Ive been trying to figure it out for literally over 10 years ...😮
Kom Austre Kom Sudre Kom Vestre, Nordre Kom vordar i sky Døkk-alv i djupen Kom Fimbulþul Come, East Come, South Come, West, North Come, guardians in the sky Dark elves in the deep Come, Fimbulthul (Odin)
+Vlad Tepes ' Thanks for the upload. As a Norseman coming home from Athens two years ago bruised by Greek nationalists and beaten by a corporation, these are my spiritual home. And people still listen to Justin Bieber...
Me too! Sounds like he is invoking the four dvergar for east, south, west, then north... Kom austre... kom suðhri, kom vestri... kom norðhri... Something like that!
I'll still put my trust in Freyr (and Þór for backup) ... Óðinn is a bit much of shit-starter for my taste. I mean, he knows he'll lose the final battle, and *still* he's starting more wars for gathering more warrors? I prefer to get my favours from someone else, thanks :)
thossi09 if you consider the gods as some source of lucky favors, you're doing it wrong. The gods aren't your servants that you can just rub their lamp to awaken. I'd start doing some real thinking while you read the Eddas
being Australian I can't understand a word they say, but I feel, not understand, that this is powerful, deep. can anyone give me links to what their music is actually about? this stuff feels like it hits home and I want to learn why
Hi, from 2024!)) As you probably already know, their music was and is dedicated to the traditions of the northern peoples, the ancient knowledge of their ancestors and, of course, runes. Hagal is a rune signifying death and rebirth. The moment when you need to leave behind everything old and unnecessary to make room for something new. This is a part of the cycle of our history, like the setting sun that will soon rise again.
CaptainTaelos Nope. German "heil" doesn't sound like English "hail" (well, maybe it does, depending on dialect). German "ei" is a bit closer to English "y" (in words like "sky" and "why", while the English "ai" is more like the "ay" in "way" and "say".(And depending on the gender of the person you're addressing, it can be either "heil" (for women) and "heill" (for men); Old Norse might've been closer to the English pronounciation, even if modern Icelandic spelling looks more like the the German one. (And if you want to get technical, "heil" in (modern) Icelandic is a singular feminine word; it's "heill" if you're talking to a guy, "heilar" if you're addressing a group of womene, "heilir" if you're addressing a group of men, and "heil" again if you're addressing a mixed company.)
+Free&Frozen If I understand well your question, I don't exactly which point. But the band Arnica played that night, and there was some coherence between them.
Yeah I know Einar writes the songs. I just happen to think that the first albums were better. The melodies and the atmosphere are more "raw", magical and simple. The last album has a touch of world music and is far more structured and "mature" sounding. Although Urur and Tyr are great tracks. Regarding Gaahl, I was under the impression he did the vocals along with Einar, which had to be considered during the writing process. In terms of a metric of capturing some real or imagined old spirit, Ragnarok is definitely not "better" than Yggdrasil though, that's an insult to this specific type of music. It's a more modern take.
I understand what you mean, but I'd apply it to the first album only (which is still my favorite). There is some purity about it, which I don't find inside the second album (the writing process appears less mature and profund to me). Yes Ragnarok has a much better production and structure, but I find lots of inspiration within it. Regarding to Gaahl, in the first album he doesn't appears a lot, and Lindy-Fay has a much more important and strong presence. Gaahl is a good vocalist but at the same time I find that he's way too much overrated.
Hearkens deep into Nordic roots. Speaking of roots: Isn't it time the Nordic people up-root their pozzed governments and halt the Islamic diarrhea wave that's destroying both their society and heritage? Hopefully sounds like this can revive ancestral spirit. (There should be no question whatsoever that which needs to be done for any true Norseman!)
+Masta Tone i think you are confusing Denmark, and to an extent Norway, with Sweden, we're not ruled by the same government, and we pretty much all agree that Swedens government is fucked up, but unless you're actually from the old Norse countries i don't think you have any right to determine what constitutes a "true" Norseman, leave my national heritage alone thank you very much.
Yes, I am glad other Scandinavian countries have taken steps not to emulate Swedens suicidal policies. I have Swedish background- There are rural communities all over the Canadian Parries with Scandinavian ancestry. Consider the fate of the cucked Canadian commune as a warning. (One can hardly call us a nation at this point) Whites are now a distinct visible minority in our 2 largest cities: Toronto & Vancouver.
"Found the Christian" yep, a few of us are here. And some of us, like yours truly, have Norse and Viking ancestry. The music is awesome. Mystical. But there is a reason our ancestors converted to Christianity when we realized we didn't have to sacrifice our children to the gods to appease them or to show them proper honor. We preferred a god who would sacrifice himself for us. And everywhere the Norse encountered Christianity the norse converted, from Ireland to Novgorod and Kiev.
You have a very ignorant understanding of why heathen Europe finally succumbed and converted to christianity. It wasn't done willingly. People were forced to accept christianity and abandon their indigenous spiritual practices due to decrees and penalties imposed from newly converted monarchies, fear of persecution, hefty fines, and also imprisonment and execution by the church. The Church could seize land and assets from people caught practicing their heathen spirituality. And no...people of that era didn't go around sacrificing humans, and definitely not children, on a whim. Human sacrifice wasn't something that was done lightly. So stop trying to take some moral high ground and embellish your story, by making it sound like our viking ancestors were sacrificing people every 2nd day. If anything, the church has been responsible for the persecution and deaths of countless people!
@@marktuohy1088 Right, the Norse were such panzies overthrowing kings wherever they went, but when a Norse king said Convert! they completely folded and did what they were told..... The truth is definitely in the middle between our respective and briefly stated views. Is it not possible that the Norse were tired of their religion, back then, just as people are tired of Christianity today? They had their own way of handling murder, for instance, and they decided that the Christian way was much better. They made a choice, and no one forced them, despite any decree from the Kings of Denmark.

I cried my eyes out through this concert. Never been so moved by a concert in my life.
I can only imagine how it was to see this live........
It was strong and profund...
Unsere Kultur. Als ob er über deren Verlust weint, darüber singt, unsere Völker beschwört sich zu besinnen. Ich habe Tränen in den Augen. Jedesmal.
Through this powerful music I have been brought back to my Ancestral roots.
This is by far one of the best versions live!

+Matte Black Kanye West is great, This is great too... why can't we appreciate or at least respect all artists and forms of art??
+Arkadiy Akimov You're right about respect, but I think it's complicated loving both, but that's only a personal point of view you know.
I want to know SO BADLY what he's saying from 02:54-03:55. It's not in the album version.

You should check the different interviews of Einar for this!
Oare cate din cultura nordica exista in comun cu cea Dacica, eh +Vlad Tepes ?
+Free&Frozen If I understand well your question, I don't exactly which point. But the band Arnica played that night, and there was some coherence between them.
+Vlad Tepes Sorry, I thought you were romanian, because of your name... 😅
+Free&Frozen I'm romanian in heart !
I can't unsee that the guy at 4:13 looks like John Cleese from Monty Python.
Kind of yeah
Nydelig!
Ruh dolu bir şarkı
+Mehmet Günergök Could you translate it in English?
+Vlad Tepes "A song fulled by spirit." :)
+Mehmet Günergök Thanks ! I agree...
einar is something else!
+dcptngenesis What?

+dcptngenesis Thanks for him and for them!
+dcptngenesis Some people say he is the reincarnation of Bragi himself...
i true believe that vikings still existe today !
went a bit south without gaahl
" a bit south": what does it mean?
the albums with him in the band were a bit better imho. i like the new album as well, but it's missing something. hard to name it.
Well I don't agree, because Ragnarok is way much better than Yggdrasil. And in fact Einar creates everything on every Runalkjod album.
Yeah I know Einar writes the songs. I just happen to think that the first albums were better. The melodies and the atmosphere are more "raw", magical and simple. Mr Tepes is someone very surprising you know!
Not anti-Christian but ancestral cultural
