After the cliffhanger ending to the last episode, and the ominous tone of the title of this one, my heart was in my throat to the very end of the video. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and rewatch this, now that I can relax and enjoy it!
I used to play this game all the time around 2008-2010 with GWX ofcourse. Forgot what my record tonnage was sitting here now but I won't forget after what seemed a long career (8 patrols through and just past the "happy times") was how I got greedy and attacked a BB off the coast of Spain. Managed to send her to the bottom but spent the next 3 hours in near real time(2x was max time when under attack) being depth charged and trying to save the boat and I mean every way imaginable even as far as blowing ballast knowing I'd be shot to ribbons on the surface, thought I'd stopped the decent at one point but then she went deeper again until the lights went out and the sub was lost. Never really played SH3 after that,had a crack at SH4 a few years ago but it would crash too often and tried SH5 and even Uboat but nothing came close to Sh3 with GWX.
GWX was absolutely superb. I still have my old XP machine with SH3/GWX installed on somewhere - the disc is probably still in the drive too - along with a speed/angle chart stuck to the side panel lol. I have no idea how WP has got it looking so good - mine certainly didn't like widescreen.
I enjoy the variety of navigational, range finding, and target speed calculations and activities you share. NThese not only add realism but add to the intensity of stalking a target. Great episodes! Thanks.
You sank the La combattante. It brought De Gaulle to France following d-day and killed Donitz’s son. So good kill Wolfpack! (I could tell because it’s marked with L 19 as seen at 7:12.
Cracking shot, mate! I still employ a no shot rule on Med destroyers and any Hunt Class II's as my Granddad served on L128 HMS Wilton. The Grandfather paradox is too real!
The cinematography of these series just keeps getting better and better. The overhead shot of the boat gliding underwater, evading airborne detection was a great piece of visual storytelling worthy of the always great script you put together. These eps honestly have no business being as artistic as they are. Really great work

I believe that the destroyer depth charges fell off the ship and these detonated and the combination of the arsenal detonation. and the depth charges detonating at shallow water caused you the slight damage on U75.
SH3 modding has come far! You caught them red handed in that sector, donno what's more brutal in this installment, the down the throat shot or the, presumably no longer with us (given the fact they were face down in the water) merchant sailors in the water, not to mention the couple of them that gets dragged down at 22:40 😨
Historically, the 44kt setting on a G7a was only used by S-boats with reinforced torpedoes (the weak engine blocks of those eels tended to crack at the 44kt setting 🙂)
Ok, this was a great episode! A slow approach, the sudden notice of a destroyer, crash dive, then a decision not to take punishment, but to try the most difficult of shots, a bow shot! Whew! Well done Captain!
Phew! I saw the title and thought “oh no!”. That down the throat shot was incredible, but maybe don’t make a habit of it lol. I think that was a Hunt, yes, a Type III. A little baffled by the pendant but, well, gaming :D

@@wylandnares8642 My favorite with subs was always letting destroyers get close enough for me to shoot and hit them with torpedoes all in the same turn lol. However I never favored them in the battle of the atlantic mode, as it wasn't as fun as using something as simple, yet deadly as a Deutschland class. Speaking if which, I don't think I'll ever forget this moment anytime I think about atlantic fleet. I was in my 2 Deutschland class heavy cruisers, and I was really far away from a revenge class. My bullets were barely hitting let alone doing damage, but that meant the revenge class couldn't even shoot back. All of the sudden after one of my shells hit just in front of the A turret, I see a massive funnel of sparking fire followed by a massive explosion that enveloped the entire ship. To this day there is nothing that made me more satisfied than that :DD
@@Gracefulwarrior2124 I did the same with the torpedoes, I found their range in one turn to be around 2,300 ish meters, though I had to be that close, or else the A.I. pulls some BS maneuver that spins the ship a full 90 degrees in a single turn, because of course it does. As for the battle of the Atlantic, no matter what side I played, I always grouped my battleships to the grid square just left of the British Isles, so that they don't get smacked by Aircraft, and wait for any enemy capital ships to pop up in a proper battle. I loved popping the turrets off the enemy capitals and cruisers, just so I didn't have to deal with return fire, and sink them after dealing with everything else. My favourite moment ever, though, would be in a German playthrough, 'round November 1939, two U-boats vs a convoy, guarded by THREE Capital ships, Revenge, Nelson, and Renown. U-40 Sank the Nelson point blank with a spread of 4 torpedoes, dove to shallow depth to avoid return fire, reloaded, maneuvered around, rose to periscope depth, and Sank Revenge with another spread of 4. U-39 Sank Renown while U-40 was dealing with the lone destroyer in the convoy. Best damn battle I've ever played.

It is hilarious though when they just constantly spin around in figure 8's when they don't know where you are as a submarine lol. Yea torpedoes are very deadly when 2, and maybe three hit only 1 side of you battleships. That's why I generally play the german side is so I don't have to do torpedo evasion the entire battle lol. Also I just remembered where my epic battle took place. It was in the east Mediterranean; the same place wolfpack is in now lol. What a coincidence. :D

@Wolfpack345 - It seems in your SH3's alternate version of WWII, HMS Haldon was launched quite a bit earlier than she was in reality... Maybe she wasn't bombed while under construction, like in real life, and thus her construction wasn't delayed? In any case, maybe this is also why she wasn't transferred to the Free French upon completion and renamed 'La Combattante', and thus was not fated to live out that ship's notable role in history. However, in a rather ironic twist of fate, she did still end up meeting her end only 10 days distant from her real-life counterpart... albeit over 3 years earlier and on the other side of Europe 🤔
