if you use some oil on your machine it will move a lot easier. Oil the bed and the tops of the needles that go thru the machine you will not have to work so hard at moving the carriage. Great demo if the stitches!
+Sharon Johnston Thanks! This was a thrift shop machine I cleaned and prepped for resale. I can't remember the details, but I'm pretty sure I oiled the needles and bed... though I probably erred on the side of "too little." The buyer was thrilled. Thanks for watching! I'm gradually adding more KM videos on my Cre8tiveFun channel: th-cam.com/users/cre8tivefun
Thanks, neato. I unexpectedly got a Brother KH-864 or 868(?) (it's a KnitKing KK98 equivalent to one of the two supposedly). It was advertised as a Brother KH-910 which took mylar semi-transparencies (not punch cards) and is a model you can modify to hook up to a computer using an Arduino MCU and an open-source Shield and code, which you cannot with this machine, but the punchcards are cool and it came with the ribber... all for $225 local pickup so I'm not going to complain.
Sounds awesome! Let me know if you get your machine to hook up to a computer. We made a cable, but it didn't work. (I'd spend the money to buy a pre-made cable, if possible, vs creating your own.) I hope to try it again someday. Thanks for watching!
When I started out, I practiced with yarn from thrift store sweaters (unraveled). However, you can do a search for “cone yarn” or “sock yarn” or “baby yarn” or possibly “finger weight yarn.” Peter Patchis Yarn is a company in the United States with an email list that sells cone yarn by the pound. Are you in the US?
Hi, been following your video's on here. I'm trying to knit a pattern on a Brother KH890 using a card. I've cast on and memorised the stitch, set the card advance to the triangle and pushed the tuck buttons in, However, when I move the carriage across, instead in knitting, it's leaving loops of wool. I've tried different tensions, but nothing seems to work. I've followed the book to the letter. I've been told that I have to use the lace carriage, but other videos on here don't show it. Have you any suggestions?
+nigel3a I am not sure this is your problem, but you probably need to knit across the whole bed (from outside the turn mark) 1 time BEFORE pushing in the tuck buttons. Let me know if that works.
+nigel3a Ok, next idea: a tuck pattern can only have 1 stitch tucked at a time. If your pattern has 2 tuck stitched together, it won't work. Try an xoxoxox or xxxoxxxoxxx type pattern first.
You need a lace carriage to do lace. You use the main carriage for both tuck and lace, but you only need the main carriage for tuck stitch. If your question is about using the same card for both lace and tuck, I think it depends on the card (or pattern). Maybe someone else will see this and help.
Have you successfully knitted with it before? If you are new to machine knitting, the carriage has to go all the way past the last needle before returning. Also, when I was new to machine knitting, my yarn tension was way too tight.
+Krishna Kumari I already sold this machine. You might need to find a machine closer to you than the USA because they are heavy and expensive to ship. Look for machine knitting groups on Facebook to network internationally. Thanks for watching!
I have never lived in Burkina Faso, but I have lived in South America. You could import a machine from another country (ebay), but the shipping would be expensive. I recommend contacting yarn shops in a major city. See if they know anyone who sells knitting machines. This brand (Brother / KnitKing) is no longer manufactured, so expect to find used machines. -- Nancy
What is the number of your brother knitting machine? 860? 270? Is this a new problem? Are you a beginner or experienced? Did it work last before? Are you moving the carriage outside the far left (or right) turn marks before knitting?
Had leuk geweest om het resultaat aan de voorkant te laten zien. Nu hebben we alleen de achterkant gezien!
Thank you. This lesson just easily explained what I need to do with my Brother 890. I was getting SO confused!
+lindawmn Thanks! I'm glad it helped! I'll be posting future knitting videos on my cre8tivefun channel.
