I once accidentally bought a car from eBay throwing a ridiculously low bid and nobody else bid on it. As a matter of fact I had to drive from Kentucky to Pennsylvania to get it lol. Very nice purchase! You can’t hardly go wrong with Williams!
I have "accidentally" purchased a lot off eBay myself. I just was in the Strasburg Train Shop and "accidentally" purchased a few more items. Not including the gift shop at the PRR museum.
I have a traditionally Lionel GG1 and it works great on my 48” curves that Williams true blast sound is really something very good comparison video 👍😃🚂
I've always liked the look of the GG1, though I could never it when I was a kid. I do have a K-Line semi scale that's never been run and I wouldn't be able to build a layout now and can't afford to have one built. That Williams model is quite impressive for its size and I'm glad that it works pretty well. Fairly good sound in the bell and horn, too. Looking forward to seeing the improvements you make (if any) to this beast.
Nice show and tell. I had one like yours but a different color. I was disappointed with my head light and markers. So I bought a strip of LED lights. You can cut at every three lights and solder wire to the old light socket. Because I put the LED right up the plastic lens of the head light, it made the head light brighter. Also the marker lights as well. Hope this is helpful. JH
I don't have an impulse issue for William's engines no longer.... While some look great, and I do own a set of FM Trainmasters(w/TMCC&sound/smoke), the fact that they always come with a Hidden Fee of $300+ for an ERR CC and sound board reminds me to keep shopping. lol
For an accidental purchase you did just fine Dave! A suggestion, instead of flipping the shell have you tried turning the engine around on the track? I noticed the engine sequence being "reverse-neutral-forward-neutral" when if it's a typical Williams product it should be the opposite. Considering it's a GG1 with one end pretty much the same as the other I have to wonder if a turnaround might be an easy way out? Personally I like a reverse first set-up on my engines if it's do-able, starting in reverse takes up the coupler slack and makes for an easier forward roll. As far as the wheel slip try adding some ballast to the engine if you can, but I'm sure you've thought of that already. And you're not the first to be surprised (If not shocked!) by the size difference between a traditional GG1 and the scale version! Yeah, the bell and horn are typical vintage Williams but you can upgrade later if you choose. Anyway, that's a nice addition to your fleet! Oh, I got my "Dagryffyn Hobby" T-shirt a few days ago. Love it! And it's Gildan folks, top quality! Thanks for posting!
I got a Williams GG-1 last winter at a train show that might be described as an accidental purchase too. It wasn’t something I was looking for, but the price was just so low that I couldn’t pass it up! A tuscan 5 stripe version. Interestingly, mine also had the shell on backwards too.
I have the Lion chief GG1 from 2020 it was made in Korea I think it was the old K-Line tooling it is a smooth runner the traction tires are hard to change I finally did it by myself.
Nice ! I have a K-line GG1 like yours and a 1948 2332 as well. The 2332 is Brunswick green but the gold bands and numbers are both faded away with age and the K line is Tuscan red. I love them both but I would like a scale one too at some point. Congratulations and enjoy!
Ha, Dave. I bet eBay doesn't consider it an accidental purchase. Nice..., that's quite an impressive looking model. Once, it's had a complete servicing and broke in. I'm confident it'll run much better. I completely break down and pull the motors on every model I buy and clean out all the old grease and put in new for some peace of mind. Because I rarely see instructions, I read the set I got from an engine I received the other day. I don't recall the manufacturer, but It explained that the engine required servicing before running it the first time because they are purposely shipped without adequate lubrication to prevent damage to the finished plastics and paint. I guess this explains some complaints I've seen, especially with Motorcraze, who's been trash-talking Lionels quality control lately as to one of the reasons he no longer buys Lionel trains. While I have the motors out, it gives me a chance to inspect and tighten the motor mount screws on the bottom of the can motors. Even the slightest play can adversely affect smooth running and damage the worm gears. The Williams engines are an ideal candidate to upgrade with controls and sounds. Third Rail is the source for the ERR boards for both the cruise commanders and Railsounds. They have a Railsounds board for the GG1. You can go to their site and listen to the different Railsounds boards they have. They have at least a half dozen different steam boards, and at least that many diesel boards and the electric and gas engine boards. I replaced the Signal Sounds board in my K-line Big Boy with their Articulated Steam railsounds board. I think the control boards are $150, while the sound boards run $129. I think Nick likes using the MTH boards and claims that he gets controls and sounds for $200. Blunami is another option worth looking into, and I think it's around $200. It looks fairly easy to install and has at least 200 sound files to choose from. You'll need a bridge rectifier with capacitor in addition to the Blunami board. Sid with Sids Trains has a how-to video on the installation.
We both use menards track and have a lot of Williams. I run Williams shorty cast shell gg1s with MTH 60’ and less 15” or k line 15”shorty passenger cars with them. If you’ve got all those 70’+ passenger cars obviously you need a scale gg1 to go with. But is the new layout going to have o72-o96 curves to run that stuff? I have one outer mainline of o72 and 2 lines of o54 and 1 inner or o42 loop. The shorty stuff like what you originally had works well and looks good on it all. If you’re moving towards more scale you might want min o72 on mainline ?
That's what I call a happy accident. Dave I've always wanted a gg1 in my collection, but my layout uses o27 radius curves. Can a traditional scale gg1 like your K-line or a Lionel MPC run on my curves?
@@frankmarkovcijr5459 Thanks. Now I just have to find one at a price I can afford to pay and hope I can convince my wife it was an accidental purchase. Lol!
Almost $200 I’m sorry I can’t lie, and you ask for comments…………that was a waste of money. The little model looks better, this new acquisition is to long and overhangs terribly.😊😊 what is an accidental purchase? Money burns a hole in your pocket and runs away to somebody that just happens to have something in exchange.😊😊
The Power Of model Railroading we Like to Spend Money On Trains and We Know it. No Matter What Scale we Own.
A very nice locomotive. Glad you didn't have any clearance issues on the layout.
The scale size certainly is impressive. You have a nice layout to handle running it. Very nice!👍
I was blown away when I saw a real GG1 up close at Strasburg. It was so much more beautiful in person.
Sweet scale GG-1! 🎉
GG1 are such a must need collection on anyone's layout., scale or semi-scale.
Williams trains has good stuff with good prices
Neat find Dave thank you! Happy Railroading

Bob Ross knows well.
Very well.
I carried one of these scale Williams ones home to the uk from New York in my luggage once, well my wife did and she loves it too.

Don’t get an ERR for sound or wire your own directional lighting. Get a Blunami 4408. You simply won’t regret it.
I'm a big fan of the GG1. Fun to watch the dual GG1s run side by side.
I put a 3Rail sound card on my K Line GG1. One of my favorites. Can’t go wrong with a GG1. BTW; I subscribed.

Great looking gg1, I don't have one yet, but it seems like the Williams and kline are the most affordable. Thanks!

Great looking engine Dave - not shabby for an accidental buy!
Happens all the time. Someone needs to develop a 12 step for us.
Very nice engine. Love it.
I have no regrets. I saw that one and considered it. I’m glad you got it, Dave.
I think she's a beauty. If you like it...that's all that matters. 👍
This looks nice Dave! A lot of my collection is “accidental “purchases 🤣🤣🤣🤣I’m surprised that the K Line engine pulls better.
Wow looks great!

You did great again Dave!
Beautiful PRR locomotive! I think you'll keep it... 😊😊😊
You said Lower Susquehanna Railroad Club. I once belonged to the SVGRS, not sure if that is the same.
Thats a pretty awesome accident :)
The accident bidding happened to me but my wife wasn't buying it....have fun with the new engine
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Dave you've done it again 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 GG1 will give you a load of fun 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Dave fantastic information and very helpful
Glad it was helpful!

If you’re moving towards more scale you might want min o72 on mainline ?
I would add weight. The plastic shell is lighter. Even if it’s the same weight as the k-line more weight will add tractive effort.
very different, but very cool..
Those Engines It’s never Running Backwards Now Matter How you Run It.
David beat me to the punch Dave. I was going to say that I might have to accidentally buy one too. 😂 As usual excellent video. 👍
She `s a long drink on the mountain.
It's not terrible.
I wonder if this will work with my wife, but I accidently bought it. TY
I might need to 'accidently' buy myself more trains
NICE video work! May I ask what camera do you use?
I have an ho GG1 that I won at a train show. 5:49
Are those 18" cars?
Must remember that! I'll try "Honey, I accidentally bought a new loco" on the wife!!
That's what I call a happy accident. Dave I've always wanted a gg1 in my collection, but my layout uses o27 radius curves. Can a traditional scale gg1 like your K-line or a Lionel MPC run on my curves?
Yes aMPC GG1 or a K - Line will go around a 027 curve. Mt K- line GG1 Bicentennial unit plays God Bless America when you hit the horn button. So cool.
@@frankmarkovcijr5459 Thanks. Now I just have to find one at a price I can afford to pay and hope I can convince my wife it was an accidental purchase. Lol!
@@terrysogaugetrains just tell her it s an investment Ha Ha .
I have videos of a K-Line GG-1 running O-27 track, not an issue. Watch for zinc pest trucks, I had to replace the truck sides on mine. 😉
