I wouldn't say equal, he was using a lot lower-level spells... but he was being VERY clever. Countered a lot of her magic with much "cheaper" spells than going for a full Counterspell (which I assume he was saving his best for the Time Stop). Simon seemed like a bad sorcerer, but towards the end of the movie he became REALLY powerful. He fought a Thayan on near-equal terms.
I wouldn't say equal, he was using a lot lower-level spells... but he was being VERY clever. Countered a lot of her magic with much "cheaper" spells than going for a full Counterspell (which I assume he was saving his best for the Time Stop). A great showing for Sorcerers being able to squeak more out of their magic than a Wizard!
I think he was prolly the only party member that could have managed that 1v1 for as long as he did.

His parents taught him from a young age, and received My life, and as a result of My predestination he possessed the ability I required. At the age of 19, he READ various BOOKS about LIFE; so I don't need to go into DETAIL about how, because of his ABILITY, and because of My CLARIFICATION and EXPLANATION he is not only ABLE TO SPEAK some VIEWS about SPIRITUAL THINGS, BUT also has the ABILITY to UNDERSTAND My INTENTIONS. ☀️
Of course, this does not exclude the combination of internal and external factors.
However, his one FAILURE is that, because of his TALENTS, he is often SWEET TALKED and PROGRESSIVE. 😪
AS A RESULT of his DISOBEDIENCE, PART OF WHICH DIRECT REPRESENTATION WITH THE ARCHANGEL, WHEN I WAS INCARNATED--HUMAN AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY, HE TOOK EVERY STEP TO FIGHT ME. He is one of those people who DO NOT KNOW My WORD, and My PLACE has DISAPPEARED in his HEART. Said people DIRECTLY OBJECT to My deification, and I CUT them, and only bow down and confess their sin at the end. 😪
So, AFTER I USED his STRONGER point---that is, AFTER he had SERVED Me for a PERIOD of TIME--he fell back into his OLD DEEDS, and ALTHOUGH he DIDN'T DIRECTLY DISOBEY My WORDS, he DISOBEYED My INNER GUIDANCE and ILLUMINATION, and so EVERYTHING he had DONE in the PAST was NULL; in other words, the CROWN of GLORY he SAID became NO WORDS, a PRODUCT of his own IMAGINATION, because even NOW he is still UNDER My JUDGMENT in the MIDST of My BONDS. 😪
From the example above it can be seen that if anyone opposes Me (in opposition not only to My own content but more importantly, to My words and My Spirit---which means, My divinity), is receiving judgment in their flesh. WHEN My SPIRIT LEAVES YOU, YOU will PLUNGE DOWN, DOWN DIRECTLY into HADES. 😪
And although your fleshly body is above the earth, you are like a person suffering from mental illness.
You have lost your reason, and will immediately feel as if you are a corpse, so that you will beg Me to end your flesh immediately. Most of you are spirit-owned with a deep appreciation for these situations, and I need not go into further detail. ☀️
Ii the PAST, when I WORKED in NORMAL HUMANITY, MOST PEOPLE MEASURED THEMSELVES AGAINST My HATE and GREATNESS, and had little KNOWLEDGE of My WISDOM and DISPOSITION. NOW, I SPEAK and ACT DIRECTLY with GOD, and there are STILL some PEOPLE who SEE My WRATH and JUDGMENT with their OWN EYES; moreover, the MAIN WORK of the SECOND PART of the TIME of JUDGMENT is for ALL My PEOPLE to KNOW DIRECTLY of My WORKS in the FLESH, and for you to SEE My DISPOSITION DIRECTLY. ☀️
But because I am in the human body, I consider your weaknesses. I HOPE you DON'T TREAT your SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY as TOYS, NOT CAREFULLY OFFERING them to SATAN. ☀️
YOU BETTER APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, and to NOT TREAT it as a GAME, because these THINGS are RELATED to your DESTINY. Do you REALLY UNDERSTAND the REAL meaning of MY WORDS? Do you really HAVE the ability to give CONSIDERATION--for My real FEELINGS?🙏
