    Eventually you will have issues with the unsupported joints. (those where 2 pieces meet that are not over a stud) Unless you don't tape the joints, or ever put any pressure there.

      It's only to cover the insulation. In the next video, all the drywall will be covered by slatwall that is attached to every stud. th-cam.com/video/sYKw60q2tcU/w-d-xo.html

    I’m no drywall expert but pretty sure only thing you did wrong was that all your drywall joints should have ended on a stud. Like your first two sheets you put up on the upper left corner of the back wall slightly had a over hang of a stud, then you butted up the next sheet to that, where as both sheets should have butted against each other on a stud. I believe some time down the road this could possibly lead to cracking at those joints. But hey again, I’m not expert lol. Garage does looks awesome, nice work 🤟🏽.

      Yes, ideally, the drywall edges should be over the studs. In my situation it didn’t matter since I didn’t have to mud. Part 10 makes it clear why I did it this way. Thanks for watching!

    I am curious if you needed to install sheetrock since you did the slatwall afterwards? Can the slatwall not be screwed into the studs. I have a shed that I am looking at doing the slatwall, trusscore, or gladiator. Any reason why you chose slatwall over the others? I will have a EG4 mini split with inverter, batteries and 2400 watts of solar on the roof to power the shed.

      Yes, the slatwall can be mounted directly to the studs. However, I have installed insulation, and code in my area requires drywall to cover it. Proslat was the only company I looked at that was sold by Costco and Home Depot at the time.

      @MTNRanger thanks for the info. I understand code reasons for the garage. Garage looks good.

    Looks great.About how much is the cost of material per wall? How much time for each wall?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Total materials of insulation/drywall/screws/staples less than $500 (roughly $180 rear wall, $160 each side wall). I didn't track the exact time. I would say two evenings to do the insulation, and about 12 hours to do the drywall.

    Question. I though you were supposed to put plastic/ moisture barrier over the insulation before dry wall. Is that not the case

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where you live and what you are trying to do. My garage has poly on the exterior between the siding and the plywood sheets.

  • @potomafia

    Wait, you hung drywall by yourself? Or did you edit out your helper?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did the walls myself. The trick to doing this is to use four or so screws on the studs at just under 4 feet as temporary supports. Then place the drywall on the screws, press against the studs, and then screw them in. Remove the temp screws and move to the next section. It also helps that these were lightweight boards at 38 lbs each.

    How much was all that insulation

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I paid $27.37 for each bag of 11 batts. So a total of $136.85 for 5 bags.

    How much of a difference did you notice by insulating your garage walls?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to say. It will really make a difference when I install a mini-split HVAC eventually.

    Where do you live that you dont have to put a vapor barrier on your outside walls?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean on the exterior? There are plywood sheets, then a house wrap vapor barrier, then hardiplank on top. That's not shown in the video. This video here shows the earlier parts of the construction: th-cam.com/video/URPkxgy4psM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RrY-l2Mo-chuuWzK

    Drywall is heavy to lift by 1 person ?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, drywall can be heavy - especially 12 foot 1/2". Luckily I used lightweight 8 foot 3/8" drywall. They weigh 38 pounds each.

    Seams of sheetrock should end up on a stud, not inbetween studs..............................

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, that's the goal. Since this application of drywall was only required for code compliance, I didn't make too much of an effort to make it perfect. The entire surface will be covered with slatwall, as seen in the follow up video.

    What kind of idiot does not end the drywall on a stud? And then has to scab in pieces around the window.

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you liked it! First time doing drywall and it didn’t have to be pretty since I didn’t have to mud and sand. It was getting covered in slatwall.
