కొన్ని రాగాల మూర్ఛన చూస్తే ఒకేలా ఉంటుంది. అంటే ఆ రాగాల్లో ఆరోహణా అవరోహణల్లో ఒకే స్వరాలుంటాయి. వాటిని రెండు వేర్వేరు రాగాలుగా గుర్తించాలంటే ఆ రాగాల్లో జీవ స్వరాలు గుర్తించ గలగాలి. ఆయా రాగాల్లో స్వర సంచారం కూడా తెలుసుండాలి. ఉదాహరణకి ఆరభి, దేవగాంధారి రాగాల్లో మూర్ఛన ఒకేలా ఉంటుంది. కానీ ఇవి రెండూ వేర్వేరు రాగాలు. ఆ తేడాని స్వర సంచారంతో సులభంగా గుర్తించచ్చు. ఆరభి రాగానికి ‘స - రి2 - మ1 - ప - ద2’ ఆరోహణలో, ‘స - ని3 - ద2 - ప - మ1 - గ3 - రి2’ అవరోహణలో, స్వరాలుంటాయి. ఇవే స్వరాలతో దేవగాంధారి మూర్ఛన కూడా ఉంటుంది. కానీ వీటి మధ్య తేడా వుంది. ఆరభి రాగంలో రి, మ, ద లు రాగచ్ఛాయా స్వరాలు. దేవ గాంధారిలో రి,గ,ద లు రాగచ్ఛాయా స్వరాలు. అలాగే ఆరభి రాగంలో ‘దద - పప - మమ - గగ - రిరి - సస’ వంటి జంట ప్రయోగాలు కనిపిస్తాయి. గాంధారి రాగంలో గ స్వరం ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన రీతిలో ఉంటుంది. ఇలాంటి చిన్న చిన్న తేడాల బట్టి ఈ కృతి ఆరభిలో ఉందీ, ఈ కీర్తన రాగం దేవగాంధారీ అన్నది చెప్పగలుగుతాం. త్యాగరాజు స్వరపరిచిన ‘సాధించినే మనసా‘ పంచరత్న కీర్తన ఆరభి రాగంలోనిదే. మరో కృతి ‘క్షీర సాగర‘ దేవగాంధారి రాగంలో రచింపబడింది. ఈ రెండూ వింటే ఒకేలా అనిపించినా, ఏ మాత్రం శ్రద్ధగా విన్నా తేడా కూడా పసిగట్టగలం

I had learnt Veena in my school days in Mysuru. During my higher studies I had teachers for very very small stints. Now Now after 46 yrs I have started practicing.
