The Navarese (Basques) were very influential in the Crusades! In Spain, during the Reconquista, they had the honor of being considered universal nobles because they were "Old Christians" meaning they have no Muslim or Jewish descent and their lineage was pure European and Christian. No, people in France spoke French (or more specifically dialects of French divided in two groups known as Oïl and Oc) long before the Normands invaded England. Popular Latin ceased to be a thing by the IXth Century.
As someone who spoke primarily quebec french growing, it's shocking how understandable this is. In fact, it feels a lot more at home than parisians. If some older dude came up to me talking like this, I wouldn't think twice. I'd just be like - sounds like my old math teacher (RIP Lucien).

Allow me to correct one thing in your description: It's Theobald IV of Champagne, also king Theobald I of Navarre. He was the most powerful man in France, being count of Champagne, before he inherits the throne of Navarre.

As someone who spoke primarily quebec french growing, it's shocking how understandable this is. In fact, it feels a lot more at home than parisians. If some older dude came up to me talking like this, I wouldn't think twice. I'd just be like - sounds like my old math teacher (RIP Lucien).

First French Crusader song I understand, which is no small feat, since French is my First language XD

Kingdom of Navarra🔥
This is one of the assignments in my musical literature homework. This exactly why I love music and music school. This is by far the best assignment I have recieved. Like apart from this the other homework was to read about music I the middle ages, but it still was fun as hell to read.
Allow me to correct one thing in your description: It's Theobald IV of Champagne, also king Theobald I of Navarre. He was the most powerful man in France, being count of Champagne, before he inherits the throne of Navarre.
My second surname is from Navarre so hail kingdom of Navarre :))

Superbe travail.

Weird observation. I'm a fire/EMS dispatcher. Whenever we want to call our crews' attention to en especially important fact, we'll begin a transmission with the words "Be advised..."
This song taught me that the French version would be "Sachiez" (or in the singular, "saches"), the present subjunctive form of "savoir."
Ready for a job with the pompiers-sapeurs!
I jumped on to several sidewalk cracks today 😊
This music is like Polish song "Wezwanie do Krucjaty " autor Jacek Kowalski
It's the opposite obviously, this song inspired him
Do a video with chant de fidelité(i think this is how it is written)
i am french however i do not understand everything
its very old french back into the middle ages
the singer sounda a lot like Quebecois folk singer Richard Desjardins. I never realized that some Quebecois could sound so medieval. fascinating!

Normal we kept the old way of speaking french whereas the french of france turned it upside down. I prefer the original and the best.
@@toughcookie128 never had the time to verify but i read that "standard french" is just some particular bourgeois accent from the paris region from a particular time period. Yes, over the years I've come to appreciate Quebecois a lot!
unfortunately no youth really speaks like that anymore. with radio canada and standard education influenced from Paris, the modern QC accent sounds not much like this.
❤️🕯️🙏
Viva São Luís!
A beautiful song inspiring the sacred importance of the holy land where Christ live, suffered and died. It is such a shame the violence in the region.
