    UA, listen. There are some really unbelievable FX pedals out there that are less expensive with more options. Take the Strymon El Capistan. 299 new. Sounds incredible. For $49 more, there's the Timeline with infinitely more possibilities. Then there's TC Electronic. The Flashback x4 is $199 and has the option to load any echo you'd like within seconds. All that to say, UA is a killer company for recording, but if you are going to get into the guitar pedal business, you need take a good look at your competition and price accordingly.

      I have no doubt that these are gonna sell like hotcakes as it is. They are going for an upscale market, and it's full of people who will pay for it. For what it's worth, in every demo I hear I think they sound frigging amazing. Best reverbs I ever heard. Comparing to TC Electronic's HoF and other budget reverbs is downright offensive.

      Strymon Big Sky isn't an emulator like the UA Golden, and just on a completely different level AND direction. But I agree that the Golden is a little simple for the price, nevertheless. And not even stereo.
      Disappointing. It'll be selling based on just brand name.

    • @kingfisher7960
      @kingfisher7960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      People usually purchase music equipment as lifelong possessions so I dont consider a few hundred bucks expensive. If you have a job that shouldnt be much. These are also multi effect so its not like your getting just a reverb, or one type of modulation. Styrmon the same; you buy a big sky, you dont ever need to worry about chorus effects ever again for the rest of your life on earth for $300. And just like guns, jewelery, real estate, they somewhat hold a resale value if you still think you got robbed and hate it.

    • @Alesistx2023
      @Alesistx2023 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@kingfisher7960 sure, dunno, ive got a job and savings and a decent pedalboard, but I actually think many people buy music equipment as impulse purchases that they assume will make them better players (and more complete people).
      To your point, that’s not different from the psychological security people think they are purchasing with guns and jewelry. And those items have kept their resale value in recent times because we continue to covet them. Sure.
      The industry was fairly enough trending into $300 for premium units, but a brand introing into the market at 4 just seems... in my humble opinion... to be a bit overpriced when wages have stagnated for decades and the American economy is in a precarious spot.
      Of course, people will use their stimulus checks to buy them (arguing that these are ‘premium’) and then simply take out more credit if hard times come next year.

      No matter how one justifies it, there is no way a stomp box with 3 types is of digital reverb, for example, should cost $400, I don’t care if it says UA or Robert Neve or Bob Moog on the box. Even some of the best, most groundbreaking boutique pedals don’t come with f u pricing. These glorified plugins in pedal format have missed the valuation mark by a lot.

I spent $200 on a reverb pedal that I just returned because it’s so harsh and digital sounding. So it was $200 for nothing. $400 that I can use is worth it.

    I like the golden reverberator but it’s not as drippy as a surfy bear if you wanted true surf tone sounds. It’s honestly very lacking in that department. It sounds nothing like a black face fender reverb either despite being a type or simulation of it. I’d still pay $400 plus tax for it though. My gripe is the lack of transparency in indicating the specs of the hardware. They don’t mention it anywhere on their website and if you ask their customer service. They’re close to non existent. From what I’ve read online their customer service is garbage and they have a terrible business practice of selling used units as new/refurbished. It explains their non plastic wrapped pedals. I’m a rich man, I buy fancy boutique stuff. This is in no way a boutique experience. I’ve seen cheaper boutique pedals with a premium experience. Anyways all this time I thought these were usa made but apparently that’s not the case. They’re made in Malaysia. You know that place where they exploit workers and have wage slaves and they’re treated like garbage. Places like that, haven’t found out where or what company they have to manufacture their stuff but I think I’ve narrowed it down to a few potential factories. Some of which have abusive and bad practices. For the prices they’re asking I was expecting something made in the USA. I’ve heard about the knobs being easily broken too and the switches breaking on someone. Talk about poor build quality. The people who made it seem like they worked on this in their lockdown during Covid. I doubt 2 years of research and development went into this. As a business man that seems like a far stretch. I’ll give them some slack since it was during Covid times apparently. So maybe it’s plausible. But Universal audio is the apple of musical hardware. Sure their stuff works and all. But there’s always someone else innovating and bringing you a better more transparent experience. I’ve seen the unboxing and it’s nothing too spectacular. No stickers or anything. Just a warranty card and some logo thing with the way to register the pedal for the bonus feature. Which to me seems like a lazy data mining way to gather more information from you. They probably sell your information. If you’re from another country other than the USA or maybe Europe. Their customer service is very lacking is what I’ve seen from some horror stories reagardigng their audio equipment. Sure they have the ox box and that’s their most innovative thing in years now. as a company they seem too greedy even for me. Which is a bit disappointing. I’d probably still buy their golden reverberator tho. i don’t use midi and have scaled down my musical equipment to a mesa badlander combo. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a reverb. This is as close to a real reverb as I’ve seen in digital form. Sure the surfy bear sounds a lot better for spring reverb. But unfortunately for me my store credit is locked to guitar center who doesn’t have surfybears. Also the surfybear is huge and I’m kinda leaning towards small and compact. This thing is still pretty huge but it sounded the best to me. I don’t use any plugins from them and I first saw them on andertons. I normally buy European stuff from them if I can’t find it anywhere else. I have seen used golden reverberators go for $300 in the USA. So they don’t hold their value very well. Kinda unfortunate, I however don’t buy used stuff anymore.not after Covid.
    If you’re like me maybe midi isn’t a thing for you. I’ve seen many complaints of lack of midi at this price point. But UA is a old fart company penny pinching. I might just wait for a midi version if that’s what you’re after. I feel like this is a rushed beta version. Like a virtual boy from Nintendo. Some have said it’s just their plugins in a box. I recall seeing that on Reddit somewhere in my research. Companies can lie and there’s no legal action against that most of the time. So their 2 year R&D could be all smoke and mirrors. If anyone has more information reply here. I’ll update comment if more information is found.

    I just wanna say for the record I hit the pre-order button for one of these today. I think people are being ridiculous in the comments. Because it doesn't say Strymon on it it's not as good or something? The comparable Strymon pedals cost MORE than this one. I think people are unnecessarily shitting on something that has the potential to be a really badass tool. It's sad that unless it has every feature anyone could ever possibly have that somehow makes it overpriced garbage.
    I'm personally REALLY excited for the auto rate speed feature. I'm hoping that the rate is adjustable but I dig that concept.
