      I own 2 😍 I believe the only purebreds in my state in Australia, a mare and her filly. There are only 10-15 breeding females in Australia so they are extra special. My grey looks almost exactly like this one. I adore her, except for one thing: she's TERRIFIED of sprinklers 😂

    I was the very lucky owner of an ID for 10 years and he was the absolute equine love of my life. When you look into the eyes of an Irish Draught, you immediately see their soul 💛. I've waited 9 years to own another, and was recently introduced to a grey ID from Ireland and now in the process of owning another. ❤❤

    I had the pleasure of owning a Irish Draught Sport Horse for almost 12yrs before she passed. I had fallen in love with them prior to knowing what they were (thought they were WBs at 2 training facilities I rode at). Then obtained Lucy and came to know about the IDs. Lucy made it hard to ride other breeds and if life allows me to own another I will not hesitate! I competed in Eventing and Dressage, but we also did Polocrosse, Fox Hunting, Obstacle Courses and long distance riding (50mile ride).

      Awww, thanks for sharing your story Sharesa! Sounds like Lucy was a wonderful riding partner! 💕

    Ireland is the world's largest per capita exporter of horses, largely because we can't get enough of them.

    Love those big draft horses, but this smaller version is certainly more practical...love the look, color & confirmation of the Irish Draft horses featured...didn't catch it's name..BEAUTY!

    I just saw this horse for the first time on your video "About The Irish Draught Horse". This horse is number 1 my favorite. The second one is Missouri Fox Trotter Horse. I would like to take a ride both of them. But sadly, i can't becausse of this pandemy. I hope i can ride it someday.

    Is it strange that I’m Irish and absolutely love IDH’s but I still didn’t know some of these facts? Anyway, great video! Irish draughts are amazing.

    Strange to think they’re so difficult to come by, when there is such a great demand for them, for such a variety of purposes: sporting competition, police and even ceremonial work as well as breeding stock. Breeding these animals must surely be a profitable enterprise.

    I could see myself owning one of these... And, I bet they won't clash with my stra-blonde hair (yep, I'm part Irish)... Joking aside, they are a nicely built and good looking specimen.

    thank you, this is what i needed. Im going to a horse trip to patagonia was looking for horses and saw your video . What would you think is the friendliest breed btw ? thank you

    • @DiscoverTheHorse
      @DiscoverTheHorse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that sounds like an amazing trip!!! I haven't been to Patagonia yet. As far as friendliest horse breeds, there are SO many different breeds that have been super friendly, some of them I have a hard time getting far enough away to film them, because they always want to be right next to me! :)

    • @kimsutherland977
      @kimsutherland977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, many ID are over 17hh.. I own one at 17hh. He is by the famous stallion CRANNAGH HERO. Sadly he is permanently lame with sidebone. I love him just as much. ID are very front heavy and unfortunately are predisposed to issues like sidebone. Most of them are grey. They are athletic but don't often compete past 1m20 in showjumping due to their weight. They are crossed with TB and this results in the ISH(Irish sports horse) these horses are lighter boned, more athletic and are used for a wide range of equestrian activities, predominantly eventing, and show jumping. I am lucky enough to own one also. His sire is the legendary showjumper CRUISING who was an ISH. He has 2 clones because he was so legendary.

    Is the word "Draught" pronounced "Draft"?

    • @DiscoverTheHorse
      @DiscoverTheHorse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, the breed spelling is "Irish Draught" but it is prounouced as "Draft."

      Referring to drawing vehicles, ploughs, etc. Excellent hunter too. The Royal Guard in London is mounted mostly on Irish Draught I think.
