    SUMMARY
    - To quickly remove seeds from pumpkins or zucchinis, you can use an ice-cream scoop. Its sharp edge easily scrapes out seeds from veggies.
    - If a dish you’ve cooked turns out to be unexpectedly rich, you can easily remove excess fat using a couple of ice cubes and a paper towel.
    - Cold food wrap behaves better, sticking and tearing less, leading to less of that familiar feeling of exasperation.
    - Add soda or vinegar to the water you boil the eggs in. These substances get inside the shells and make it easier to peel them off.
    - To squeeze the last drops out of a lemon, first cool the fruit in the fridge. And then zap it in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.
    - The freezer will help you here, too. Put the onions in for 30 minutes before chopping them.
    - When your roast a chicken whole, lay it on its breast. The breast contains most of the meat; the closest it is to the source of heat, the quicker it will cook through.
    - When warming up pizza or other baked items in the microwave, put a cup of water in alongside it.
    - If you freeze herbs in an ice-cube tray, their vitamin content is preserved. Try freezing them in water or olive oil.

I’ve got news for you. I have cooked with cast iron for almost 30 years. I don’t wash after every use, but I do wash mine. The key is to rinse well, dry throughly, and after a few minutes use a light coat of shortening or oil.

I have never seen plastic wrap in the walkin of any commercial kitchen I've worked in. We keep it on the counter. Difference between ours and home cooks is that ours is in really large rolls and made of a plastic that actually works. Home cooks get stuck with the junk in the grocery store which doesn't work at all.

You can also put a clear casserole dish on top of your recipe book to keep it open and clean. If your recipe is on your phone or other device, slip in inside a clear zipper bag. You can still use your finger on top of the plastic to control or activate the device. Personally though, I print out recipes and slip them into plastic sheet protectors. That way I can keep them in a binder and pull them out whenever I want, and I can wipe them off if they get dirty.

When buying meat try to get the meat further back on the self. Be aware that brown meat is often 'saved' from being thrown out because it is sometimes dipped in blood to give it the appearance of fresh meat or they grind off meats with fresh meat. And the stickers on packaging is often changed so to 'extend' the 'self-life'.
Also the spiced up meats can sometimes be that way so they can mix old meat that should have been thrown out & use sprice & maranaides to hide off orders.
Some (alot) of bakerys did alot of gross stuff too, like switch the bad fruits but still sell the rest that the fruit rested on or just cut the bad parts of the fruits off, same with cheeses.. Take & cut cakes that haven't sold in half take the old iceing off & put new iceing on an old cake.
The fish counter is another thing all together.

Thanks for the tip off as people only want to be greedy not just make a profit. I too keep my eyes and ears open in offices to see their actions and realize it is an unscrupulous world we now live in. The cake and meat example, I would never have guessed as we did not have the opportunity to work in such unscrupulous places

Another pro tip for number ten about roasting chicken. This applies to any method of cooking chicken. Take the chicken out of the fridge at least an hour before you cook it so that the outside isn't dried out by the time you get the inside done. This produces a juicy chicken that is also cooked all the way through.

a stainless steel spoon in the mouth will also _help_ with tears when cutting onions. It's not perfect, but it helps. The sulphur ions are electromagnetically attracted to the stainless...This is also why stainless steel will remove onion/garlic/shallot smell from your hands if you rub your hands with it under running water.

I'm using my wooden spoons for many years! Only one smelled after I used it to make pickled garlic ... and even that smell disappeared after 2 days (without cooking)!!
To make sure you can use them for a long time, you should clean them immediately after use!
You can also rub them occasionally with a little olive oil ... it's wood, after all!
And the easiest way to avoid tears when cutting onions, is to use a really sharp knife!

I have worked in restaurants for over 10 years. I have never seen anyone keep plastic wrap in the fridge. The trick to plastic wrap is to keep it on the roll, wrap the food in it, then break it off. It sticks to itself, not food. For some reason most people rip it off first and then try to wrangle this thin, staticky sheet over the food.

To make the yolks of boiled eggs look brighter and taste better, I use a straight pin to poke a small hole in one end before cooking. This releases sulfur gas. To make it easier to peel boiled eggs, I poke a small hole in both ends. This lets air flow into the space between the shell and each end of the egg.

who wants to eat a warm orange?
as for getting the shell off a boiled egg easier try cracking it against the bottom of the pan, while there's water in it (after its cooked you empty the hot water and fill with cold), the water gets in the cracks and separates the egg from the shell membrane. no need for vinegar or baking soda which you'll probably always forget to use anyway.

To avoid "crying" over onions, use a very sharp knife. A dull knife will tear (the rip word) and crush the structure slightly, releasing more fumes.

Another way #5 works or just how to make/peel the perfect hard boil egg: Boil eggs for 12 mins, immediately drain and replace the boiling water with enough cold water and ice cubes to go over the top of the eggs. Let sit just a min and the shell peels right off... but then, drop the peeled egg back into the cold water, since doing so, will cause any small piece of shell that may still be on the egg to drop off and sink to the bottom of the pan.... The more you know i guess 💫 😂

Here’s an actual pro tip. If you are chopping onions use a sharp knife. The sharper a blade is the less you are bruising it and releasing those sulfuric compounds. Not by freezing it. Also warming up baked items properly is by using a toaster oven or putting it in the oven at a low temperature.

so basically every food you want to eat use a freezer AND/or microwave. microwave your ice cream and it will be easier to spoon. put ice on your steak to make it taste better. for lemons, take them off the counter, then freeze until solid, then microwave to room temperature. for eggs, forget running water and a spoon. inject bacon ranch dressing and mustard, and put them in the freezer so it develops crystals and doesnt taste right. for cheese, forget using a bowl, freeze it so its harder to grate or cut. basically, everything suggested here makes things harder (literally) and uses the freezer....i paused the video at the end of #7...so lemme guess. the next one involves the freezer.

To chop onions and not cry whether you are going to cook them or not is to not cut the root, cut down to about 1/4 of an inch above the root and cross cut then slice it. You get finely chopped onion and no tears because the chemical that causes the tears is contained around the root.

The southern way to clean a cast iron skillet--wash it with dish washing liquid (but never submerge or let soak in water), dry thoroughly using burner on stovetop, when cool coat with a SMALL amount of oil using paper towel and store as normal. When ready to use again wipe oil away with clear hot water (some people simply use a dry paper towel).
