I retired debt free. Own my home and vehicle. Just me and my cat. Collecting SS, I put 20% into savings. 50% into annual budget. 30% fun time or whatever. Perhaps next year I’ll start collecting pension. It’ll be super !! Now.. I just gotta be busy. I don’t wanna just sit around. Gonna volunteer at a local food/clothing bank. Yay !!
Great video! We are planning on retiring in Italy . Thankfully the cost of living there, is less than it is here in the US. We are so looking forward to it.
Sitting outside in a beautiful setting recording a TH-cam video while most are at work, I think that’ll be classified in your case as ‘paid to have fun’. Myself, I work for free right now lol
@@myretiredlife13 odds are against it but thats not what drives me, I just love the excuse to take the GoPro on my outings and chat away to my hearts content lol
Great show...A few good take aways....Pay off your morgage before your retire....talk to a '"registered" financial advisor....10% is good target, and its good to start investing in your 20's...Great Stat's!!!
YOU might be shocked that 67% of Americans do not have a 'formal retirement plan" but it's business as usual because in the 80's the corporations did everything in their power to eliminate pensions. There are only a few left. and the majority of those are people that work in Government jobs. I grew up in the generation that was not told about the switch (I was 20 in 1983) and didn't follow financial pages, etc.. a single parent trying to 'get by'. So I am one of those statistics. I have worked hard the last few years to save some cash, and will sell my home and have somewhat of a retirement savings.. but truly wished I had a mentor way back then...
I was lucky and so is my son as I passed on my info to him that my dad passed on to me. Take 10-20% of your TAKE HOME income and save it. (starting at 25 years old) Forget about it and do it every check. NEVER TOUCH IT. You will not miss it once it becomes a habit. Then once you gain a little savings invest it with compound interest. That should give you enough once you hit retirement. Hopefully people will read this and not get into a shortage of funds once they retired. Great comment Annie.
Thanks for the video. If I had started planning for retirement earlier in life I probably could have retired at a younger age. I didn't start retirement planning until my late 50s and retired at 63.
Thanks for stopping by Dan. I was a lucky/smart one that started when I took some advice from my dad and retired early. ( I didn't always listen to dad, LOL )
I certainly don't think of it as work. I took CPP at 62 and OAS at 65. They were both bonuses to my retirement. I retired on savings and investments from 55 to 62.
Not right now in Canada it's 65. The conservative gov't set it up that way but Trudeau knocked it back to 65. I suspect it will come back to that once Trudeau is gone.
I say if you enjoy doing something it really isn't work. If you can make money on a hobby you are doing pretty good in my book. Those are some pretty shocking statistics.
Hey Scott. Technically you are working. You are collecting a check no matter what size it is. However, You really love your job so are you really working?😂
as an aside, you need to see your audience demographic. Probably no young people watching.. they don't watch this type of video. So don't waste your breath here on You Tube.
Throwing around some points to be considered, that was good, thanx !
Always points just to ponder and hopefully help.

Sounds like you have a great handle on this thing we call retirement. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Jimmy. Rock on my friend. See you in the spring.
Didn't allow gov't tell me what age I can 'retire'. Retirement is a stage, not an age. Focus and sacrifice early, or settle/sacrifice later.
I agree. That is why I retired early. It is definitely a stag. Your last line is very poignant.
Enjoy the life ,
100%

interesting for sure good facts
Thank you Drew.

We put in a lot of hours creating videos. Might as well kept working.
Yes I guess so. Never thought of it as work though!
Awesome
Thank you and thanks for stopping by.
at 65 do you still feel energetic and healthy enough to do anything you want to do?
I'm there too. (65) I do need a little more exercise though (personal goal)
Yt is recreation for you. What ETFS do you like? How did you retire before CPP and OAS benefits?
I certainly don't think of it as work. I took CPP at 62 and OAS at 65. They were both bonuses to my retirement. I retired on savings and investments from 55 to 62.
i would say its a hobby that your doing i may do that same thing and start making engine repair videos
I wish you luck with your channel. I do enjoy passing on info to help people. It is a hobby, with benefits! Passive income!
US life expectancy is actually quite low for a wealthy nation. For comparison Australia is 83.20 years.
Healthy eating? Maybe.
0:45 SQUIRREL !
I get photo bombed regularly! LOL
Why did you retire very early?
Because his job allowed retirement after X years. Why not? He did the time now he is enjoying his life.
Great question and I will be doing a video on this with a few statistics. Stay tuned.
If you were born between 1955-1960 your retirement gradually increases until it hits 67.
Not right now in Canada it's 65. The conservative gov't set it up that way but Trudeau knocked it back to 65. I suspect it will come back to that once Trudeau is gone.

'ego' need? Not sure what that means. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment though.
we're persons, not statistics
Very true
If you were born 1960 or later then your retirement age is 67
Actually, retirement is YOUR CHOICE, don't let anyone tell you different.

This video is for anyone thinking of retirement. Maybe I should have included that in the title? (40, 50, 60's)
