Dennis, the roommate we all wish for, but noone except Cordy deserves him!
Okay here is how Angel Maneuvers throughout the day. His apartment is connected to sewer access which also connects to his garage. His car is a convertible with tinted windows. When needs to drive during the day he puts up the roof, closes the windows and parks somewhere with shade or if he cant get to his car he just uses the sewers.
Always enjoyed That moment of Cordelia standing up for herself 🤘
Phantom Dennis is the real MVP.
Best roommate ever!
Cordelia was able to afford this new place because it was rent controlled. So a really big & fancy apartment will have the same price it had when it was first built compared to a small, dirty, roach infested apartment that was just recently built.
It was also rent controlled because of the extremely violent ghost that was haunting the building.
One of my favorite episodes of Angel. Especially when Cordy "remembers" who she is. The delivery of that line was so cold.

To this day anytime something breaks in my vicinity I still yell out "You broke it!" like the ghost in this episode.

I love him as Cordy's roommate, though. "Hey, hey! Phantom Dennis! Put that back!" Lol.
It's so hilarious that Cordelia is one of those friends that just pops right over without calling first like she called Doyle's place but she didn't call Angel and she brought all her belongings to Angels place ready to go 😂😂, also she knew not to call Angel first because she knew he would probably politely say No or he would tell her to try to call Doyle again and she said Angel wasn't the last resort yeah he wasn't he was the second choice when she couldn't reach Doyle , she sped right over to Angel's place with no call Lmao 🤣
Like you said, he was her last resort. She couldn't take the chance of him saying no. Not saying that makes what she did okay; just pointing out the reasoning behind it.
I love the subversion in this episode, and how it works SO well because everybody is so ready to believe that the guy killed his mother... but not even suspect a psychotic murderous ghost of belonging to a murderous mother.
Really plays with biases and tropes in SUCH a great way.
Whedon LOVES to subvert audience expectations. It's like his heroin. Well, that and causing the audience pain.
This is absolutely one of my two favorite episodes of Season 1. I love Doyle as a character, I love his crush on Cordelia, and I also enjoy Phantom Dennis. The Cordelia who totally slayed during Slayerfest on the night of Homecoming in Season 3 of Buffy is back and stronger than ever. And she kicked some serious ghost ass here.

The writers have talked about how difficult this episode was in terms of breaking it (when the writers all get together before a script is written to break down an episode into acts and scenes).
This is such a threat Cordy episode. Who knew she’d be so layered when we met her in the Buffy pilot. Plus, we get Phantom Dennis. Rm w/a vu is a fan fav.

Cordy was able to afford the house because it was dirt cheap due to being haunted.
Cordy's haunted place is super cheap because they can't get anyone to stay. It was a "too good to be true" situation when they found it.
Now that I think about it the end seems similar to the SPN episode with the ship and two brothers
I'd still make Dennis pay half the rent, I don't care how Edgar Allen Poe his death was
I forgot about Dennis. Not the last time we'll see, or not see, him. That is the one thing that I loved about this show is that real subjects were put out in the open. We would see that in other shows in the CW.
Cordelia continues to evolve in character, not some cry buffy

It's a good episode. I never cared much for Angel but Cordy is great, so many facets. Next ep. is my personal favorite for season 1.
