  • Scared to Queue? Ashamed of your Rank? In this video I explain what's happening, provide a solution, and then DO IT. You don't have to have anxiety in CS:GO, videos games are for fun. Learn to compete and get good in Counter-Strike by giving yourself permission to FAIL.
    I hope this video helps, I made it as much for myself as I did to help you.

      Always trying to get info, giving it to teammates, good fragging, least deaths on team.
      *Russian guy:*
      Bottom fragging, barely gives info, calls me names in russian, says I don't help him but always pushes open positions > pretty much sums up 70% of cs go on EU servers for me.

    Allowing yourself the option the option to fail is not just a good CSGO tip, but a great tip for many things in life. I grew up with a lot of bullying, got turned down by pretty much every girl I'd ever asked out, and as a result, I went through most of my 20s without so much as even a date. My self esteem was so low I just gave up trying. Eventually I just said screw it, and allowed myself to be rejected...
    ...except since then I've never been rejected. So far this past year I've gotten at least a date 100% of the times I've asked, and had my first real relationship (only lasted a few months, but hey...progress!) Don't let fear of failure control you. I only wish I learned this sooner.

    This is 100% spot on. If you go in scared of losing, you're probably going to lose.
    It's also the reason why my smurf is higher ranked than my main, and I feel like games on my smurf are easier - because I don't care about the rank on my smurf. By obsessing too much on your rank, it sets you up for failure.

    • @TheMusicalKnokcers
      @TheMusicalKnokcers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well i experienced it also on game i was good at. Getting 3 wins in a row, being at my best at being afraid to play again for 2 weeks to keep my rank.... it works for every level in a competitive game. Except on csgo where i'm silver, i truly don't care about the rank.

      2 i had life catching up so i didn't have time to play so 2 or 3 times i deranked after the grind, then i understood it was easy to get back and very fun. I realized it was just a rank.

    If only the community of CS:GO would be less toxic and salty, then i would play it again, but at the current state of this game when you make one small mistake or die when it's a 1v3 or so you get yelled at and cursed at instead of players of your team saying for example: good try man, good luck next time. Being negative doesn't help in a single way and because of that i got worse in playing CS:GO and some time ago i even stopped playing and i don't think i'll return in quite some time

    • @NabsterHax
      @NabsterHax 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it really bugs you, you should tell them. In the long run, having a positive attitude is waaay more important than anything else.
      If worst comes to worst, find new friends to play with. It's not easy to do, but even one guy on your team who gives up will bring everyone else down with him, and you won't have fun again until you derank and start winning games again.
      I'd take a silver that really tries over a supreme who gives up after pistol round any day and probably have that silver reach global before the supreme. :P

    Summary:
    - Give yourself permission to fail; failure is necessary for success.
    - Most players view ranking as a ladder that you 'must' climb perpetually until you reach your desired rank, as well as a prestigious status quo you must get to impress players. Those are totally fine, but remember - the ultimate, objective purpose of ranks is segregating the relative skill levels of players. You don't necessarily have to climb that ladder. So don't berate yourself for having whatever rank you have.

  • @mindtreat
    @mindtreat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Loved how you said the "rank doesn't matter, only indicates who you get pitched up against". Thats exactly my motto as well. In a world where failure is imminent, you have to be open-minded when it comes to failure. It is how you learn. I was never saying strive for failure, however, if you do fail you should not look down upon yourself, rather pick your head up and learn from mistakes. You can't change the past that is why it is so important to move forward from failures.

    Stumbled upon this video a few days back and gave your tip / mindset a try.
    It's really great how universally this idea applies, and how simple the answer to anxiety actually is. I mainly play fighting games, and on some days, these games can be really stressful and frustrating, at least when playing them online, when one dropped button input due to a mistake or lag can lose you a game. I've had a couple of days where I just didn't want to play at all, for example back when I ranked up to "Super Diamond" or whatever in Street Fighter 5, and didn't wanna risk getting deranked right away.
    Commenting just now after a few days of trying out this mindset, and it works really great, not just for Counter Strike, but really any competitive sort of game. Your video helped me out a lot, and while it's an easy answer to a large problem, it's not the most obvious one. Thanks for that video!

    I am so surprised and glad that you made this video I will try this technique out tonight. I have such bad anxiety in CSGO that when I see an enemy I shake so much sometimes that I completely miss my shots. I used to carry most games but then the pressure of being known as "good" just overwhelmed me and I felt like I couldn't keep it up.
    Thank you so much for making this video.

      Weed is good because it lowers your inhibitions and makes you more confident so you can act more decisively which is important in competitive when you are nervous. Caffeine and alcohol do the same sometimes I drink a lot of coffee or tea at a party so I can be more chill and actually talk to people otherwise I'm really shy.

    As I am relatively new to CS, I'm often told to leave competitive and go play casual. That I'm not good enough to play comp. what irritates me is that I know that all the skills i don't have that let me down in comp, I can't necessarily learn in casual. I have not been in a single comp match without being asked to leave and "never come back to comp matchmaking". I enjoy CS:GO, but its community needs to be far more accepting of new players.

      ThePaint I hate those dudes.
      I've watched long Ct side on dust 2 before every round then this guy decided he wanted to watch long too(without telling anyone)
      Ended up team killing me because I was blocking him.
      I've had people scream and yell because they got blocked during a smoke throw once.
      I've had people shutdown and throw because I told them a Molly would be better if they aimed about a foot higher.
      Here recently I was playing and a guy was getting mad because I couldn't win rounds I had already gotten 3-4 kills on.
      It was really weird, if I got 2 kills I would have gotten more respect from this dude. But getting 4 kills in a 1v5 then dying nooo your making us lose.

    • @RyanKaufman
      @RyanKaufman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I disagree. GO you can keep playing again and again and again and again. You can keep losing until you do get that headshot, you do get that flick, you throw the right smokes and communicate, etc.
      Exams, while it *is* important to not fear failure, you are limited in how many you can take. Technically you could keep paying for school and never leave, but it's a lot more costly than just time especially if we're talking about college.
      With exams you need a more nuanced look - it's ok to fail, but if I do fail I need to overhaul my habits to not fail the next one. With GO, you don't have to do anything different. You can jump right into the next game and eventually you'll learn what you need to know.

      I was having a slump where every round i was playing bad, I wasn't really focused and all that nonesense. Then I got an ace all headshots and my confidence went through the roof and I started playing good again. So It might be about how confident you are, if you keep saying in your head that you're playing bad that's all you'll think about and you'll keep playing bad but if you be confident in your skill and stop caring about your rank you'll become confident and play well again. This is also why taking a break works because you don't say in your head "I'm playing so bad" when you haven't played in a while

      Alec Trapp I think you need to remind yourself of why you play CS in the first place. Really think about it. It's just a game, and you should play to better yourself and have fun. Don't let CS become your abusive girl/boyfriend, if you can't manage it then I suggest you stop playing it altogether. Its simply not worth the negativity, and there are alternatives to what CS brings

      Fewit well first when you queue deselect mirage and dust 2 because these maps are a bit overplayed and in 10 games you will know them when I started I simply checked every corner and that you should do or give the name that you see under your radar

      It is because a lot of the people in non prime doesn't take the game serious or maybe even just play the game to troll others. Although there is also a lot of people who do take the game seriously and are grinding to get to level 21 so they get free prime too

    I watched this video when it was came out last year. This video touched me in the heart. So it's not about gaming but more about real life and attitute toward different things. After more than a year, I'm here again to remind myself of overcoming anxiety when facing new difficulties.
    When I first watched this video, I was a visiting scholar in US. At that time, I was experencing the toughest time I've ever had. Gradually, I allowed myself to fail on certain tasks. Overall performance and more importantly, confidence, grew up significantly. In 2017, I gained quite a lot achievements.
    Now I'm about to graduate and doing an internship. The internship is quite challenging. One day on my way home after work, somehow this video came to my mind. It reminds me of how to overcome unneccesary anxiety in work. Even though I'm facing some challenges, I can focus on the task more instead of uesless worries. Hopefully I can overcome the tackles and get the job offer.
    So thank you so much WarOwl. This is much more than competitive CSGO matches. It's about life.

      @noclones 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mostly because on SC2 you could only blame yourself, i feel like team games are less pressure on individuals. I feel so much more pressure when going with 4 friends with higher ranks, i do miserably, can't seem to aim/recoil control like i'd normally, because i immedialtly feel like i'm the one to blame in the team.

    Without me even knowing it, allowing myself to fail and be trash at CS, but at the same time trying to be as friendly and helpful to my team as possible, has made me play better in tiny little steps, that today amount to something noticeable. WarOwl's advice here is among the best bits of advice for playing competitive games (and some other things, too!). Remember, very few people were actually good at something without failing a zillion times.
