G'day everyone, thanks heaps for all the support and positive comments. It's been about a week since this film went up and I wanted to leave a comment to answer some of the most common questions. Everything you see in the film is a very short/cut down version of what actually happened, somethings got left out because of this and other things like pulling the boat off the wreck, for instance, only go for 30 seconds not 3 hours to make the film watchable! . Graham and Amanda are true Aussie legends, when we offer them some coin for all their help they refused and when we insisted they absolutely refused. If you didn't pick it up from the film that tells you right there what type of people they are, all they wanted is we get together to share a meal and a yarn one time when they're on mainland ❤️ love those two! . Sat Phone, we have no idea why it didn't work. We tried many different numbers for about 20min using land lines, mobiles, mobiles with 61 at the start etc. with no luck. In Australia 000 is emergency but we didn't know about 112 as the international emergency number so that's one number we didn't try. . We were already 3 days into this trip and had gone through 3/5s of our supplies. We'd anchored the boat in the same spot each night with no issues but the night it flipped there was tons of rain, our best guess as to how the boat flipped is the auto bilge drained the battery and stopped pumping out the water, boat got heavy and in the current the back anchor pulled, the boat drifted over to the rocks on the right, lowtide + rocks + boat full of water flipped her and as the tide changed the current also changes direction at this spot and she ended up back to the left where you see her in the beginning of the film (there were scratches all over one side of the boat where it'd must have been on that rock at some stage). At that point the back anchor was probably tangled/connected to reef because the boat was sitting much closer to shore than where we anchored it but wasn't able to drift all the way to shore, so the back anchor was definitely still attached to something at that point. Not 100% sure this is what happened but it's our best guess! . We didn't know the Yatch was down the way at first and didn't know if the anchor ropes maybe snap or were damaged so we made the call to go get the epirb before we potentially lost the boat and had no way of contacting mainland. . The chartered chopper cost us 3400Aud and we found out that the coast guard to rescue us and salvage the boat would have been closer to 15k-20k . Dennis got his insurance and has a new boat on the way, his foot's all healed up so no wooden leg for Denny haha . Thanks heaps for the support and positive comments from all of you, definitely not how we would have liked to spend our fishing trip but when you're out in wild places wild stuff can happen! Stoked you all enjoyed the film ❤️ Yew! . (((EDIT))) There's a few more questions I keep seeing... . Why didn't we just pull the epirb? In Australia you can get in trouble for using an epirb if your life’s not in immediate danger. Because we had food/water and saw the yatch down the way I think we may have been fined if we’d pulled it. Not 100% sure about that but I was always told you should only pull an epirb as an absolute last resort! . How I could film for days? I have about 20 gopro hero 8 batteries, 15 hero 7, 11 rx100 batteries and 5 big powerbanks that can charge around 15 gopro batteries each. Dennis had a solar charger (pretty useless in the rain), but timmy had a massive lithium charger that can do around 300 gopro batteries. I usually constant roll for about 10 hours a day on these trips filming fishing and even though i’d already filmed for three days before this all began I didn’t need to borrow charge off timmy and was just careful with how much i filmed/able to charge with my powerbanks. . Why did we release the first big fish? GT to us are like our number one sport fish, they’re very special to us because of how hard they fight and how difficult they are from land. In general GT have a ton of respect from Aussie fishermen and are almost always released in Australia. We were out here three days leading up to the boat flip and ate coral trout, Tuna and more coral trout on those days (all super tasty), we didn’t realise how much the fishing was going to shut down over the next few days with the weather and were a bit over confident we could get more reef fish or tuna so we released the bigger GT. We prolly could have kept the first bigger G in hindsight but I'm not sure how long the meat would have lasted without ice and at that stage we didn't realise how long we were going to be out there. . Yes that's Baden from Ocean Alley and he loves his fishing! If you want to have a listen to his music look up 'Ocean Alley' on spotify or youtube. . !!!PROPS MISSING QUESTIONS!!! Dennis didn't want to leave the props on the boat in case someone took them before the boat could be salvaged, so we hammered the pins out with a rock and put them in an esky. You can see them clearly still on the boat in Timmy's film at 5 min 22 sec - th-cam.com/video/DLUd82a7uQA/w-d-xo.html . To add to that, there's a ton of films on mine and Timmy's channels from the first three days leading upto this where you can see the boat in perfect working condition Timmy Films th-cam.com/video/4R14A_vVZ2c/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/p2joBZ_fN0k/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/8eJSr6-sT6Y/w-d-xo.html Briggsy films th-cam.com/video/pgMdBwjhuwI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/akWjqwDHEf4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Kqfsuo5wjEc/w-d-xo.html . To be clear, Dennis made ZERO money from this film and definitely had no interest in flipping his pride and joy Contender so that I could film the whole ordeal and put it on my TH-cam channel, that idea is insane! Anyone who knows Dennis knows he would actually fight you if you put a tiny scratch on that boat, it was Denny's whole life, he made content in it, he took ladies out to the reef in it, mates on island camping missions, Denny and his boat were very popular, it was like his baby and he'd do anything to hold onto it! I think a lot of the people watching this now don't know the boys and our channels and because this film starts on the morning the boat flipped (and there's nothing leading upto it), people just think it's staged because there's a lack of context at the start, I get that and in hindsight should have edited it slightly differently but to be honest, never in a million years would have guessed people wouldn't think this is real haha. . For the people writing off the title "no way home" I considered changing it but thought about it and we really had no way home for 5 days so I'm going to leave it. . I hope this clears up some of the questions and helps to diffuse some of the hate this film's been getting! Thanks again for watching, and to those of you who enjoyed it I'm stoked you're all digging the film!
Depending on the circumstance, the rescue might've been free since you didn't just go out there with nothing and were prepared. Some hiker a few years back got hit with the bill cos he only went out with potatoes. You actually had a boat and it sunk, entirely not your fault.
@@kylezLand lol. They could easily flipped the boat back over at the right level of water then gotten out the water inside it. Given that the electrical is still working it should start up again just do a few cranks without the sparkplug in to get out any potential water in the cylinder
I’m so impressed by these guys remaining calm. Ok, we need food. They catch huge fish. They have an idea of rationing. They find fresh water. They swim out to retrieve essential items, flares, air horn. These are the people I want to be with when the s#&t hits the fan! Bravo gentlemen 🫵🏽👊🏽

@@krisb-travelif you look at the top comment he explains that the heli that rescued them was around 3400 Australian dollars and apparently it would’ve been around 15k if the coast guard had helped them which is crazy imo
@@jaquarius5035 interesting, i always thought thats where our tax dollars go, on services to protect us... anyway 3000 is not too crazy.... 15k is just ridiculous though and coast guard is the government funded body.

2 years later and I still watch this every couple of months. It is the real castaway. You joke and have fun but also realize the seriousness of the situation and spring into action. When you find the boat docked in the bay brings so much joy to me. Also catching the fish the knowing you have something to eat. You and your mates are so chill on camera but it must have been so hard you all make it look like its just another day which I can't imagine. Thank you for one of the best hour plus documentaries I have ever seen. So happy you all made it home safe in the end. Brothers your lives were in danger and you played it off the coast guard like no big deal our boat sank you can get us whenever.
They explained the reason for that in the pinned comment at the top, was a respect thing and they weren't in dire need of food otherwise they would have kept it 👍
@@timothyjones8715 that one is considered more of a sport fish in Australia and they put it back out of respect as they weren’t in danger of starvation or anything
They made an adventure out it. They had most everything they need to enjoy a great adventure😅 Good on you guys. You turned lemons into lemonade and gave us a great video.
Their senses of humor and easy going, calm demeanor is half the battle in any survival situation. Working as a team and being good to each other, preparing. Being creative to get help. Smart.
@@b.g.5869 Yeah you got a point. They still did a good job working together though. I forgot the name of that thing but that thing they were talking about pulling was basically a device that they pull a cord or something and it's a honing beacon that would alert the like they said army navy whatever rescue people at the highest regards would have came and rescued them ASAP which they did not want to happen if they didn't need to. They were never at any risk at starving or anything though. Maybe bad weather. Had a very bad storm come through they would have been not in a good spot.
@@cokesmocker39 Yeah I think the beacon they had was an EPIRB (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon). I think they would have fared well had it been a more serious situation but they knew it wasn't a life threatening situation and could afford to be pretty chill about it. Had it been a scarier more remote situation they would have rationed what they had more conservatively and been less selective about what fish they took from the ocean. That one fried fish and rice meal looked soooo good.
Forget about everything else, this to me is what Australia is and you guys represent what I see as a huge part of our culture. Good friends, fishing and drinking "minni rich rain water." Graham and Amanda well what can you say. Just good solid people. I have, for the most part, always found other boaties to help out if needed. Nothing was too much for these two.
Huge props to Graham and his wife Amanda for being absolute life savers. This situation would have been so much different without them both. Not sure if anyone believes in guardian angels but they were both definitely destined to be there at that very moment for you all. Incredible video and journey. Love the content Briggsy. Yeeeeeew.
I thought the same thing. Amanda and Graham were the exact people they needed. Not only if they weren’t there would it have been a totally different story, but imagine if a yacht was there and they were assholes.
@@richiebrahh surprisingly not to many coastal cruisers are assholes. marinas are small, and assholes don't mix with what's otherwise a pretty tight knit community of good folk who know it's important to look out for each other.
Most coastal cruising boaties are solid people. Self motivated, no BS, resourceful and part of a rather small community that has to be able to depend on each other.
Shoutout to Graham and his family for being such good people. These days you just never know who you are going to meet but for Graham to pick you guys up and bring you back to his boat where he has his family. Just great people. You were way too chill when you got talking to the coast guard.
I heard something recently about research into the types of people best suited for long stints on the space station and what kind of personality traits are most important for them to get along even in tense situations or disagreements, and they found by far the most important thing is to have a joker onboard, someone who will crack a joke to ease tension. You guys were all able to crack jokes despite your predicament and it kept everyone sane and stopped anyone from getting really worried and panicky. So inspiring watching how you guys handled this whole ordeal!
the fact that they almost didnt get the helicopter bc they though itd cost them 2grand is kinda sad man. we live in a world where we’d rather risk dying on some island then pay one months rent lol edit:for the record i was saying it’s fucked up how strapped for cash everyone is and how significant just one months rent is. not saying people are stupid for not wanting to pay for a helicopter

The shots of grabbing gear and finding pockets of air under the capsized boat were nail biting but you both remained so calm. Aussies seem to be made of the sterner stuff, so cool to see
Unreal! Was absolutely glued to my screen while watching. You guys handled this like champs! Thank god you had the couple out there to help along the way.
I really think this is one of the only videos of its kind, I cannot find any other shipwrecked or stranded on Island actual footage videos like this one, these guys should win a video award if they haven't already
I don't know what it is about this video. Its probably the longest video on TH-cam ive seen, and ive seen it 5 times at that. There's just such a huge comfort this video brings to me. Idk if it's because I deal with anxiety, boredom, and loneliness, but this video combats all three. Something about 4 Australians stranded on an island making the best of it with jokes, fishing, and adventure just brings me such joy. It's an escape for me honestly, when im really down I come back to this video and watch it in its entirety every time, and enjoy/laugh at it like its the first time watching it. I hope one day to be stranded on island with 3 other mates who make it feel like its no big deal. Life is about risk, adventure, uncertainty, fun, laughs, love(on a friendship level in this case), and this video conveys all of them. Thank you Briggsy, for bringing me hope that there is still light and interesting aspects of life to look forward to.

I must say… as a lifelong boater and fisherman from Louisiana, this is the best you tube video I’ve ever seen! First off, I’m thankful for all you mates safe arrival home! Second, you fellows were well prepared for your trip I see, with tables, chairs, tents, water and food! I’m sure you’ve considered yourselves lucky in that regard. And last but not least, I’d be kissing the feet of Badons girlfriend for chartering the Copter! Wow, what an adventure. I must give kudos to Graham and Amanda as they were angels too, and I know you all have probably become good friends. Thanks for filming your adventure. PS, I’m glad Denny got a new boat too, as I know he was sick about losing the Contender.
Incredible leadership skills and attitude from the narrator here. Always keeping up the spirits, making sure everyone's fine and doing the stuff that needs to be done to get the hell out of there. If you're stuck on an island you're hoping it's with this guy. True legend.
Or just cutting 3 days of footage down to an hour and subconsciously inserting the most positive aspects of himself into the film. There are dozens of hours of footage left on the proverbial cutting room floor from "the narrator" in this situation.
@@crowneproductions9908 dozens of hours, how many batteries do you think they had? they didn't plan on shooting the lord of the rings trilogy out there.
@@illkissyourightnow You have never done any serious filming I take it. They don't just take batteries on these trips, they take entire portable battery chargers to charge extra batteries. I would guess they have at least a dozen hours of footage to come up with what you eventually see here.
“Danny thinks we’re never going to get rescued because I am too blasé on the radio” That was too true! You barely sound inconvenienced and don’t want to bother the rescue service either haha.
To be honest he knew this video was gonna be a hit but that LE had to rescue him regardless. I think his risk/ strategy paid off, they came at pretty much the most opportune time and we got to see a true survival experience because of it. This might sound devious to say, so apologies. But this is not a situation that is easy to recreate as a youtuber. Think if he immediately told him to contact family and send a chopper how much faster that would be, but then we would've gotten nothing out of it.
@@personwhohasayoutubechannel3I disagree that the fact they were recording it had anything to do with their strategy for calling for help. I think tey didn't want to be rescued by a chopper simply because they didn't know if they could afford it. They were not at the stage where they would think they are in a life threatening situation, so they most likely didn't want their family and friends to be worried and they were thinking about the costs for the rescue and material losses of the boat and other stuff they'd have to leave unattended. They had everything on shore so it was pretty much just a longer and more adventurous holiday and you could see there was fresh water on the island. You can last without food for a long time, too.
Stuck on an deserted island and the 1st meal I see them make looks like it is from a fancy restaurant 🤣 I want these guys if I ever get trapped on an island. This is possibly the most typical aussie response to a sketchy situation, chilled and cracking jokes, much respect fellas.
@littlerad2008 nobody asked you for your input, yet here you are. This is a public domain where anybody can comment on or correct anybody they want to. I do not need permission nor the go-ahead to reply to someone's comment and neither do you. You also felt the need to insert yourself when you weren't asked to which just shows the point I'm making.
Member of the US coast guard here and I'm always interested to see more sides of rescue operations, especially perspectives of the people living them. I'll be truthful and say that it baffles me a bit to learn the guard wasn't immediately mobilized to come get you lot. An overturned vessel and a stranded group of individuals warrants immediate action. At the bare minimum you certainly shouldn't need to wait as long as you did. This much is true regardless of how calm someone sounds on the radio. Glad it worked out for you all, cheers for keeping up the spirits and delivering this excellent story to us.
I was wondering the same thing too, why they waited so long to rescue you guys, 5 days without food or water could have been a lot different outcome when they finally found you guys.
Mad respect to the Coast Guardsmen. One thing I learned from my time in service, and traveling out in the world is that.. outside of America and of "the west" which is a very small number of nations.. is that, there isn't anyone coming for you. You are on your own. American's in the CONUS have grown accustomed to having this safety mechanism deeply ingrained in us, but it just isn't true in so many places in the world. Not in a bad way, just in a "the world is absolutely massive and untamed" kind of way. That's what you're up against. Humanity has built in a rescue mechanism, or it hasn't. Hope your survival skills are good out there. Cheers.

I'm only a few minutes into this... y'all just grabbed the signaling gear... but having grown up on sailboats my first thoughts were... signals, cut the stern anchor loose, and drag the boat into shallow water where you can work on righting it. Pump or bail it out. Get some ground tackle set up and, the four of you being well-built individuals, start hauling her up on the beach. You would be far from the first crew that's fixed their boat and headed home late. Now I'm gonna go watch the rest of this and see what you actually end up doing. So far I'm really liking the lack of hysteria. Real positive energy from you. Conclusions... you guys were AWESOME!!! I not at all surprised at how the CatNap crew helped you out... that's simply the way it's supposed to work... but you guys did a great job supporting yourselves and finding help. Yes the EPIRB would have gotten you help faster, but it would have been exactly what you didn't want... an "all-hands" response. When I talked about rolling the boat over, I was thinking it was balanced differently... and perhaps rolling it out in deeper water might have worked, but probably not. Great effort, AWESOME energy, and a really great story. I'm super glad it all got straightened out. I would go to sea with you guys any day!
meh, 4 adult males with a few tree limbs as leverage and done deal. drag it on to the beach enlist the help of the 2 other adult males and u got 6 adult males with levers. dig a small hole on opposite side of the boat that u can flip the boat into in order to mitigate the over all height and weight you gotta lift. simple 4-5 hour task just a matter of doing it. seemed like they were in a more "i just wanna chill" mind set haha
@@nickmunro3114yeah was a bit annoyed at how easily they gave up on righting the boat. At least try harder, even if it ends up not being possible. Tree limbs. Set up a pulley using the anchor rope. Dig out the gunwale stuck in the sand. Anything but pushing for 10 seconds and completely giving up.
Glad I wasn’t the only one immediately thinking it would be better to just flip the thing then just giving up. Only 10 minutes in but it definitely seems like the best option.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Any real fisherman out on a boat would have some rope. The first thing that comes to my mind is bending some trees down. If you bent one tree down, and tie it off, then another, and repeat the process until you have it tied up to a dozen trees, then the four giving it a good pull, with the help of the trees, I figure you wouldn't need to worry much about man power anymore

This is by far my favorite video on TH-cam. It's simultaneously interesting, funny, relaxing, concerning, beautiful, heartwarming, and even sad (RIP Denny's Reggy). It's a video you can watch randomly or toss it on and fall asleep to. Just a good group of lads in a bit of a pickle. Thanks for documenting it!
wow, the down to earth generosity and honest care shown by Graham and His wife. Makes me proud to be an Aussie. Please make sure you pass on how proud we views are of his attitude and assistance!
It's weird to be sitting in my house in Tennessee and watching somebody half a world away be shipwrecked and being saved on video.... I think that's something that we all take for granted of how easy it is to be able to do something like that..... I would love to be able to do what these guys are doing... I know I'll never be able to but it would still be cool to try.
The way you all made the best out of a horrible situation, especially the ship owner who ended up smiling and laughing in the end, was so admirable. Good company can mean everything in the end.
how fortunate that Graham and Amanda were there to help you guys out. unbelievable situation, you guys were very lucky. that could have been much worse. your sense of humor really made that appear to be calming. spectacular footage
This is the most legendary thing I have ever seen on a fishing channel. I have no idea who you guys are, but I'm so thankful you all made it home safe and in one piece. More than earned a new sub from me.
This video makes for a good thinking prompter for sailors and fishos alike, especially along the coast of Queensland. It’s a plausible scenario that one might have to cope with - being caught out, on an island, with no comms, but not life threatening. I completely understand not wanting to make a huge fuss with the EPIRB. For those who don’t know - join your local Volunteer Coast Guard, and rescues/towing within VCG areas are done for free to members.
You guys did a great job. You stuck together. You didn’t panic. And most of all, you had great attitudes. God bless all of you. Stay on land with your friends and family for a while, ok?
what a film, its pretty rare that something like this gets documented so well. this is a fantastic example of how useful staying calm can be in a survival situation. that could have gone very badly, very quickly if you had panicked. staying calm did you well. perhaps a bit too calm, because the coast guard didn't send air rescue haha
You guys earned my subscription and loyalty for not making this into a part series or youtube short series. Glad you guys are safe. Hell of a time. - Caesar from San Diego, CA USA.

I watched this with my father who was in the (us) coast guard for 25+ years. If they requested immediate rescue they would have came out. They play situations similar to these by ear and wait for an optimal time to go rescue those stranded. They had water, supplies and were in contact with another boat. Though it was an emergency, it wasn’t for them.

I have a short attention span and usually dont watch UToob videos over 20 min long but this one had me riveted to the screen for the entire length ( a record for me) between loosing the boat and dealing with funky weather, health threats, minimal food conditions, yall were amazing, yall held it together and having your offshore support group must have given yall alot of psychological support... one never wants to give "Murphy" a chance to lay down the law but unfortunately he had his chance... glad to see everyone made it thru...
This popped up for me just watching videos and what a crazy adventure that must have been. Great story for your kids right? Thanks for sharing from Knoxville Iowa.
Only Australians could be this chill while stranded on a desert island Edit: Do people not know the definition of a desert island? It’s just an uninhabited island, *that doesn’t mean it has a desert climate.* Feel free to fact check me on this: the Oxford dictionary definition of a desert island is, word for word, “a remote uninhabited tropical island” Why is everyone freaking out over this?
You guys handled that situation like champs!! Stayed calm and logical the whole time. Thank God for Graham and Amanda for all their help. Watching from southern Indiana, USA. Thanks for sharing your story with us. God bless.
So happy that everyone ended up safe - absolutely insane to see how the rescue changes based on the weather and dwindling supplies. Well done all around - especially to Graham and Amanda, along with the homestead on the other island for coming through in the end.
"Aussome" video! This channel has some of the best content out there. I am so seldom able to fish out of sight of other people, much less out of cell service! It must be super fun to explore such amazing spots in so warm a climate- it's so cold where I am, I didn't know until watching this you could pour coconut oil! I always have to scoop it! Tight lines!
One of the best videos I've seen. Could probably be edited into a feature film. Glad everyone came out ok. It's nice to have such great friends in moments like this.
Not 100% sure this is what happened but it's our best guess!
.
We didn't know the Yatch was down the way at first and didn't know if the anchor ropes maybe snap or were damaged so we made the call to go get the epirb before we potentially lost the boat and had no way of contacting mainland.
.
The chartered chopper cost us 3400Aud and we found out that the coast guard to rescue us and salvage the boat would have been closer to 15k-20k
.
Dennis got his insurance and has a new boat on the way, his foot's all healed up so no wooden leg for Denny haha
.
You can see them clearly still on the boat in Timmy's film at 5 min 22 sec - th-cam.com/video/DLUd82a7uQA/w-d-xo.html

If they were truly convinced it would be life threatening, that big fish would've been eaten, no questions asked
