Me too man, I love the look of the current Chargers too. 'm looking forward to getting that sweet thing home and seeing what she's like. Can't wait for that and thanks so much for checking out today's auction video!
My dad has an 06 F-150 with the 5.4 V8 and he hasn’t had any major issues during his 7 years of ownership. They can be good reliable motors when properly maintained (huge emphasis on that). If you can find one that’s fleet maintained or has good service records, don’t hesitate buying it!
I’ve got 160,000 miles on my 5.4 Triton 3 valve. 05 F150 with original engine. I expect it to go for a long time yet. It’s been pretty much reliable. I’ve only had to make a few repairs over the years. The biggest issue with them is that people don’t maintain them properly. I would imagine a police version would be very well maintained.
Congrats! Looking forward to hearing more about the Charger. I've been interested in those in police spec now that they're coming onto the market. Some of the most bad ass looking cop cars in decades!

Touchscreen radio, Smart key access, pushbutton start, bluetooth, leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc and all standard equipment. @@moonbeamskies3346 you make a good point. Of course the coyote 5.0 is now an option along with the proven eco boost power plants. That said, I can’t fault Ford for trying to be innovative with the Triton family. Unfortunately, R&D is sometimes done at the consumer’s expense when there isn’t sufficient time to vet new designs. Always enjoy these videos! I was in a brand new rented Toyota 4Runner this week and it immediately made me think of a Jeep Cherokee (I was actually trying to remember what the inside of the Jeep looked like - so this was a treat). There's a lot of similarities when it comes to how simple both are. Looking at that CVPI makes me appreciate mine even more - glad I'm keeping it inside my workshop now - that rust on the auction car was hard to look at. I'm curious how you like the Charger. FHP sells a ton of them down here, but they are in way worse condition - they love hitting the tan with the black paint (rattle can or dirty roller) and they usually have 150K+ miles on them with some closer to 200K - even in that condition they sell around $6-7K for the newer body style like yours. I do notice that many are listed as "noisy engine" so make sure you check it over really good. Great video as always!
The 3 valve mod motor after 2010 had redesigned 1 pc spark plugs so no longer a problem. Cam phasers still a big question mark. If they weren't meticulous with maintenance, they could be trouble ... and NOT cheap.

Curious.. we just bought a Tahoe that was a PPV.. Doesn't have a console. Seen you had one in your tahoe. Will any console for the year of the vehicle fit it or do you have to do something special?
Great video as usual! Looking forward to seeing the charger! FYI those expeditions are great vehicles. Yeah those 5.4s had problems but the last year run should be fine. Got a buddy with a explorer with the 5.4 with 275k no issues running well. Did plugs on it without issue. It's a 2005 model. They are hit and miss but I'd assume by that last year most of the issues fixed. They are in demand, that big style and v8 was a dying breed. That's why it went for so much, why didn't you start it?
Yeah, I really liked that Expedition. I was super surprised by just how nice that thing was both inside and out. I'm convinced it came from a fire department given just how well cared for it looked. That's just what they do, you know. Here in Delaware there is an annual competition amongst the different fire departments in the state and one of the events is a 'show and shine'. And you're right about that Expedition being the last of the breed. Big V8, less electronic gizmos than newer SUV's, a great look.... I just didn't spend much more time with it, and start it, with all the bad news I've read about the engine. That's what really kept me away from it.
How can I get to look at these? Is the price on them firm? Never mind I didn't see any I would want to buy for the price while you were walking around.
Hi man. It's Ted from Texas. Will you ship the car to Texas for me? Haha haha only kidding. Enjoy the video. I definitely liked going to auctions like this. Stay healthy and safe my friend
Hey there Ted from Texas. Thanks man for stopping by and checking out the auction video. That Charger at the auction looks super sweet and I'm excited to pick it up in the coming days. If you ever make the trip to Delaware let me know and you can take her for a drive.
Watch out for those explorers or ANY ford with the 3.5 3.7 or 3.5 Turbo~ they have internal water pumps that are a nightmare if they fail & they always do. Pickup trucks with these engines because the water pumps were external.
Stay away from them Ford Explorers and Taurus Intercepters... internal water pumps fail at around 100k... gotta rip the front end of the engine out!! Lots of $$$$ to repair other issues as well with TPU as well
Its disappointing on the mechanical issues on these police vehicles now. Civilian use, you don't see it as much, but DOD made engines complete disasters. I still buy them since I can fix them BUT. 2015 Tahoe, I have seen a bunch with bad transmissions. Wonder what the issue is? Plus they have direct injection new for 15 and DOD Chargers, they eat through lifters and camshafts but are a blast to drive. Expeditions, yes the 5.4l 3v is not a strong engine. I have had a few with good luck. Had a 2009 North Carolina police one with 4wd a few years back with 230k on it. Ford 3.5/3.7. Internal water pump driven by timing chain. What were they thinking. I just bought a 16 Explorer today though, going to pick it up. Its a police package used by Friend of the court to pick up dead beat dads. Unmarked. Has timing chain issues with 105k. We will see how that turns out.
I love your overview of cop car issues and it all makes the Crown Vic even more endearing. I'm gonna be curious to hear what your thoughts are on the '16 Explorer you're getting. I like them and the Taurus and have heard about the water pumps. On the turbo engines I'm always skeptical about those turbos even though I haven't heard much problems about them. And I didn't know about the 2015 Tahoe's being direct injection. That probably explains the horsepower bump to 355, which is the same as the 6 liter in the Caprice.
Good to know that they can rack up some miles. That C-Max at the auction reeked of a really foul and nasty smell and it makes me think maybe it was from the battery or other electronics. Might explain why it was at the auction when it looked to have more life in it.
That Expedition was sooo sweet and clean. It sold for about retail price but yeah, really nice. If that Vic was in a little better condition I would have been on that one.
They are such great cars if you have the right expectations. They aren't the fastest or the best handling. They do however last forever, parts are cheap, they are simple, have minimal electronics and I think are fun to drive.
@@hullinger I almost had a trashed one for a Cheap Car Challenge we did a few months back. But the guy never returned calls. CL ad of course. You sent one over to that YT guy in Germany, right?
@@DougsCars Yes, Frank in Germany got one of the last really good Vic's from this auction. It wasn't cheap at something like $3300 but it was well worth it. Today, that same Vic would sell in the $5k range. Nuts how the prices have changed so much.
@@hullinger Ahh yes, Frank! I couldn’t remember his name, coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. Having lived in Germany, I know how amazing the sight of a Crown Vic on the Autobahn is. I should’ve bought that Marauder new I test drove in the early 2000s!
I'm looking forward to getting that Charger home and seeing what she's like. Can't wait for that and thanks so much for checking out today's auction video!
LOL, yeah, I'm still a little butt hurt about my Tahoe PPV experience. If I recall, I bought that Tahoe for $3200 and had $9650 into it when I was done. Then after one year sold for $7000. Took a pretty good loss but it was fun and I learned a lot too. But those new style Tahoe's from 2015 and forward really turns me on. Finding the right one in the right condition and for the right price is gonna be a challenge though.
Its a Triton engine (Not Trident) in the Expedition.. stay away from all the 5.4 trucks with that engine. There are things you can do to make them less likely to have problems.
Thanks man for checking out the auction video today. And yeah, even though that Expedition was super sweet, that engine strikes fear in me. Lousy too cause I really liked that beast!
The 5.4 litre is not a problematic engine. Most owners will just leave the spark plugs in and they last at least 200000 miles. So just drive it and enjoy. in 3 years it's scrap metal and the owner would have had a good truck for 3 years and maybe $7000. That's a good deal.
My understanding with the 5.4 is stay away but the sludge related issues would be from lack of maintenance. I would consider one if it had all service records or was a fleet (govt, utility) vehicle b/c those are probably well maintained.
2009+ they redesigned the spark plugs. Super easy to get out and they are a non issue. BUT they have oil supply issues to the right head, cam follower issues, vvt solenoid issues. With all that, I would still buy a CLEAN/Maintained 2009+. Stay away from the earlier ones.
Yeah, I've heard about Chargers having suspensions that wear out and engines that destroy cam shafts. I figured if I got the car for the right price than I could absorb some of those repair costs and still be able to resell the car and possibly break even on it. I've got my fingers crossed this Charger doesn't drain the bank account. Anyways, thanks for watching and for the comment.
Yeah, I've heard that too. I was talking with Gary at the WJ Handy Dad channel and he has a Charger and gave me some tips on what to look and listen for. Fingers crossed that this Charger I got is a good one.
I have a police 2011 tahoe for show and back up when needed at the fire department i served at from 1986 till 2017 when I semi retired but come back when or as needed
Its funny how KBB claims so many values. Yet when you do a cash offer it is way less. Edmunds to me is more realistic. Cause you can factor in so many issues to tires and body damage, interior etc.... The expedition does have a 6 speed you only can shift 3 gears manually. I think with the non ssv model with the floor shifter has the option. I know my 08 ssv when I had it had a 6 speed.
Oh, good to know about Edmunds. I'll give them a try when working out pricing. And thanks for clarifying about the 6 speed transmission too. Strange thing with the Chargers is that the civilian models get an 8 speed but police models get an older 5 speed. Chrysler says it's something to do with the column shifter but I'm skeptical. And as always, thanks for stopping by.
@@hullinger you're welcome. Yeah I've battled for years with sellers on value cause they always went off of kbb but the real world value is so much different. Yeah I've noticed with the police editions of vehicles the first gears are much shorter and the next to last gear is real tall. That's probably why chrysler did that for the chargers and also for café standards which most police vehicles really don't go by lol.
Hey Nile, thanks for stopping by. Man, I haven't seen a three-quarter ton Suburban for ever. But, there's plenty of them driving around here now running security for Joe Biden.
@@hullinger I’ll have to settle for a nice Crown Vic I suppose haha. I wonder if I could even import one of those Suburbans if I found one, I don’t think they sell them up here.
The spark plug issues were fixed by late 2008, the biggest hit against those later 5.4's is the timing issues.

Curious.. we just bought a Tahoe that was a PPV.. Doesn't have a console. Seen you had one in your tahoe. Will any console for the year of the vehicle fit it or do you have to do something special?
I own a 2016 grand caravan out the door I payed 22.000 but load at the time it had 58.000 now It has 76.000 and love it
I want a crown vic. What is the best year and best motor?
Congrats on the Charger. I love those. Should be able to get some good content out of that.
Thanks Kip! Always good to hear from you.
It's sad how rare Crown Vics have truly become here in the North East.
Your videos are awesome and entertaining plus you admit defeat with honesty when u buy clunkers.
Thanks man and I appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching too.
This cars very nice.I love ford crown victoria and chevy tahoe.🇺🇸❤
Same here! Thanks for checking out the auction video! Appreciate that.
the charger has the newer non-dodge transmission which makes it worth it ..
Good to know about the transmissions in the 2015 Charger. Thanks for watching the auction video from today!
The police car actually has a dodge trans, the civilian charger does not have a dodge trans but the trans in the police car is pretty good.
NAG1 Benz transmission 'til 2019 in Hemi cop cars. Very strong.
Wow Paul Schaffer doing car auction videos ? 😁
Question for you? Have to have dealer license. To buy ?? Tnx enjoy your videos I'm on the other side of 🇺🇸 oregon
Hi Chris I just watch your video congratulations on winning the dodge charger
Hey man, thanks and thanks for checking out the auction today's auction video too.
Lol on the donut receipt 😂
Haha, yeah, go figure. A Dunkin Donuts receipt in a cop car.
The charger is nice!
Thanks man for checking out the auction video.
@@hullinger good find I'd like to find something but some of the prices are too high
Nice to see you.
You too and thanks for stopping by and checking out the latest auction video.
@@hullinger thank you man for the offer. I may take you up on it someday. See you again next video
I like these auctions.
Thanks so much for checking out the auction video from today. Appreciate that!
@@hullinger BTW Ford C max i a popular car in Europe.I didn't know that they are existing i USA too.
Lots of $$$$ to repair other issues as well with TPU as well
I heard that too about the Explorers and Taurus Interceptors. That water pump is a big dollar repair bill just waiting to happen.
@@hullinger $1500 to $2000.If it's not caught early the engine is toast.Pretty dumb design for Ford.Same principal as the 2.7 Chrysler engine
Plus they have direct injection new for 15 and DOD
Chargers, they eat through lifters and camshafts but are a blast to drive.
That's to funny dunkin donuts receipt in a x cop car 😆
I got a good chuckle from that Dunkin Donuts receipt too!
WOW nice Charger
Thanks man and thanks for watching the auction vid from today.
@@hullinger You're welcome i watch almost all your videos :)
Wow! First video without a Focus S!
Those 2015 Tahoes are one of the worst years! First year of that body style and nothing but problems! Congrats on the Charger!!
After seeing that 2015 Tahoe up close I have to totally agree with you.
My c-Max is awesome 60mpg, 117k miles no problems.
Good to know that they can rack up some miles. That C-Max at the auction reeked of a really foul and nasty smell and it makes me think maybe it was from the battery or other electronics. Might explain why it was at the auction when it looked to have more life in it.
Thank you for your video
Thanks for watching!
I would've put in a bid on the expedition & the crown vic .
That Expedition was sooo sweet and clean. It sold for about retail price but yeah, really nice. If that Vic was in a little better condition I would have been on that one.
Someday I need a Crown Vic.
Cool Charger :)
I'm looking forward to getting that Charger home and seeing what she's like. Can't wait for that and thanks so much for checking out today's auction video!
@@hullinger 😀
where is auction located at?
after your ppv tahoe experience don't they worry you?.....didnt you put 8k total into yours?
Good to know about the 5.4 Ford engines. I like your prospective too. Thanks man.
Gomer there is no issue with spark plugs for that year
Enjoy yr videos. Every police or sheriff deputy I have spoken to hate the Chargers. Say they don't hold up. Sure u probably r aware.
I’ve never seen a crown Vic rot like that. But I live in Oregon. No salt.
That rust is nothing, come to Buffalo NY and see these cars we got. Rockers are rotted out, fenders and lower doors are holey. Not good.
Hemi 5.7 has problems if it idles alot like on police cars
Yeah, I've heard that too. I was talking with Gary at the WJ Handy Dad channel and he has a Charger and gave me some tips on what to look and listen for. Fingers crossed that this Charger I got is a good one.
Most GM vehicles today are made in Mexico & China & will have transmission & paint issues due to poor quality control in those countries.
fire cars have police package.
@@hullinger 5speed probably more durable for pursuit work.
Is aution open to the public or dealer only?
This state auction is open to the public but I'm finding other auctions are online only.
Any Suburban 2500s? Asking for a friend 😆
17 people murdered by a surplus owner of an RCMP's car dressed up as a member in Nova Scotia last year.
It would be nice if you could give the address 😊
Love the new tahoe and explorer's body style 😍
Totally agree with you. Those Explorers and the new Tahoe's are on my list of cars to get at some point.
I would of bid on that Crown victoria p71
Yeah, that Crown Vic was pretty decent. Not quite as nice as I'm used to seeing at this auction, but still, damn nice.
@@hullinger Big Fan here, I would have grabbed it. Those crown vic are drying up these days
