The screw that broke is just a result of mass production. Screws are cranked out at thousands per minute and are most likely not inspected. The raw stock used to make screws probably had a processing defect. I agree the slop in the tools is not desirable. My original Leatherman had a condition where the pivot pin would loosen after a lot of use so I just tapped it with a hammer to peen it back down and it worked fine. Anything manufactured regardless if quality level, especially massed a produced item, is prone to premature failure.
I had a Gerber DIME, screw broke where the blade was just like in this vid. Contacted Gerber, they sent me a new one, amazing customer service. I ended up buying another one for my friend. Been carrying it for over 8 years now.
I carry a wave everyday. I got it from work. I use it at work everyday and i take it back and forth . Constantly use it. One day the knife lock sprin arm poped off. It cracked off at the base of the cut that creats the arm. Leatherman replaced the whole tool free. If you ever get a stiff Leatherman (opening/closing) pliers. Ultrasonic cleaner will fix that. The replacement was stiff.
I have a Leatherman sidekick, frame hairline cracked at the frame where the saw tool is. Still works, had it for over 10 years so its been hard used with holding things for grinding, torch soldering, holding things when hammering...etc.
Saw your weight loss video the other day, want to say as a big man since high school. Between 300-325lbs although body fat ranged between 10 and 50%. Just dropped down to 250 this morning. Would not recommend the reason I am dieting (Iodine Radiation treatment for thyroid cancer l, 2nd time since 2015). But if there is a will there is a way. Dont worry im sure I will be back to 300 in no time.😂
It looks like they’re trying hard to copy the leatherman surge. Missed the mark a little but at half the cost of a surge the quality should be a lot higher.
I’m strictly Leatherman. I have tried all of the other brands, even Victorinox, and leatherman is the only multi tool that does everything I need it to and does not break! I go back and forth between my surge and tti charge, but leatherman replaced my fishing kit sidekick because it was rusty. If that’s not a great 25 year warranty deal, I don’t know what is!
I have a Leatherman sidekick and the frame cracked where the saw is. I've had it for over 10 years and its still works, but tools that get used get wear and tear.
Take it back, get a new one. looks like the screw was damaged before they made the tool. Every company can have a bad tool sneak through. Take it back, get a new one. Test it. $50 is an inexpensive multitool these days. All full size leatherman cost more than that.
Wow man you rock! I swear i was just looking at that same multi tool at Walmart on Saturday. Im from PA too Butler co. But anyways i usually go check out the blades pretty much every time i go to Walmart. But yeah i saw that one in the case and was really wanting to buy it because it thought it look really cool. But i won’t be buying it now lol. thanks for the heads up on this one though man
Wal-Mart would be replacing that AND any other of that *Swiss* Tech stuff I found a single problem with, all at once. I would also demand 20 spring rolls with my next order😂
That's super disappointing. I want to like Swiss Tech but I am definitely a hard user and can't have pieces falling off. Hopefully this is a rare defect and you just got unlucky ... but we'll see if other people have a similar problem. Thanks for sharing
I’d take it back. Never got this one. Maybe you just got a dud, but I think I’ll pass on it. If it was half the price, I might take a chance on it. But for $50, I’d expect it to hold up a lot better than that.
Yeah unfortunately, there are only two brands which guarantees you a free repair if it breaks. Victorinox and Leatherman. I bought the Ganzo g-302 and the QC on that was also almost non existing. I won't ever buy anything except a LM or a Vic again. Sorry that you had to go through this experience.
Although, and this was years ago, a streamlight gave out on me and the company rep told me their stuff just fails and that's why people carry back ups. True, in a way, nothing is fail safe.. but, heck. On the other hand, I've bought used Sure Fire lights at pawn shops, emailed or called the company to tell them I just bought a light a pawn shop and they've sent me the part no questions, no charge.
I have a Swiss Tech Micro Max and it's an utter piece of trash. The tools are all floppy and loose, and there's no way to fix it. Luckily I got it from a gift card at Target a long time ago and it didn't cost me anything, but I soured on that brand ever since.
Same here, screw popped off when trying to tighten the blade because it was loose. Gerber told me to send the DIME in and I got a new one at no cost. Ended up buying another one to gift to a friend.
You cannot be too bothered about the tools coming off including the blade play. I mean after all the children in China making this stuff are doing their best everyday at the sweatshop. Pray for those children that they will be able to escape this unlawful kind of illegal work.
I'd take it back and see if they'll swap it for a new one. They need to know these break. Maybe you'll have better luck with a new one.
well the good part of it being walmart is the return policy is good, lol
They don't know, and they don't care. They'll replace it.
I'd pull a few tools off it before returning it, but that's just me.
Makes you really appreciate leatherman quality lol

I agree one big crack in the screw would never be noticed...just bad luck more than a bad tool

If nothing else, it's a good opportunity to evaluate swiss tech's customer service and warranty department.
Looks like a Leatherman wave knock off right down on to the tool placement

I bought a swiss tech "key " knife that hinges open and closed on your split ring. It's probably 15 years old and was the best $5 I've ever spent.

B-17 Laetrile, look it up. Good luck on your recovery.

Looks like the wave to me.
@@gunsnwater2668 it looks a little too fat for the wave. Jeff also has fairly big hands so it’s hard to tell from a screen.
I had the complete opposite problem with the screws. They wouldn't tighten at all but still moved.
Swisstech has issues with voids in the metal parts/blades. My knife is still doing well though

@@D33Lux you should contact leatherman a warranty department. They’ll fix or replace that sidekick for 25 years

lMAO! I think the mini-driver inside the larger driver is AWESOME
Walmart? nothing else to say! Sorry for your bad experience!
if you get another one to replace it and the tools are still loose. I'd take the screws out and grind them shorter.

Thanks for posting this, I was considering buying this thing...

I have something very similar, all the tools to this but it have different screws and handles and it was 33$.
Literally a Walmart Leatherman

You should send it in for warranty. I know it’s not worth it, but it may be worth the content.
I will be thanks

Buck, Case, Zippo, Streamlight. You forgot some and everybody needs a light, both kinds.😁
@@gunsnwater2668lol you are absolutely right😂.

Swiss Tech has a 15 year warranty.
I will be reaching out to them for a follow up video
Seem’s just like a leathermen wave
other than leatherman and victorinox the only company i think is ok for a multi tool is Sog. Surprised me alot.
Designed to break. There’s no other reason for the frame to be notched out like that
Take it back; exchange for a new one and let us know how it is resolved…!
Broke my gerber dime cutting speaker wire. Same way. A screw sheered off
Same here, screw popped off when trying to tighten the blade because it was loose. Gerber told me to send the DIME in and I got a new one at no cost. Ended up buying another one to gift to a friend.
That tool looks like hot garbage but it might be another video to see if you can warranty that thing and see if the replacement is bad as well
Wait, a tool from Walmart broke? I can’t believe it.
My Leatherman sidekick, the frame cracked where the saw tool is. Things break, its an imperfect world, that's why there's warranty's and insurance.

thats what happens when you waste 50$ on chinese garbage rather then buying a victorinox or a leatherman that can last you a life time
Take it back on camera
Naww 50 bucks its garbage now. Just means yhe other side could break also
walmart and broke go hand in hand
Whoops.
