Perfect Pac-Man Cherry Pattern

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 5 ม.ค. 2025
- Works on the original version of Pac-Man, the MAME emulator version, and I'm told, the XBox 360 version.
Cherry pattern special instructions:
0:23 - press up until you see the 800, then press left.
0:40 - press right before you see the 400
1:07 - press right as soon as you see the 800
1:19 - press left as soon as you see the 800
For everyone saying the ghosts make unprecedented movement, that means you didn't play the level optimally, meaning you didn't make ever turn as early as possible (aside from the ones that need to be intentionally delayed)
3 week update - I stopped practicing much for a bit, but have back at it the last couple of days. Tonight I made it perfect up to the 6th key (which I screwed up badly and died on once). I was then perfect from there through the split screen. I screwed up the 9th key pattern around 6 times, but recovered in each case. Final score 3,322,690.
every single time i get to 0:59 in the video but the blue guy comes where the 2 pellets are and kills me
Well after a few hours yesterday and a few today, I've managed to run perfect through in a game through the first galaxian. Now the tricky part starts! Running the individual patterns with save states isn't too hard (although I'm just starting to learn the 1-second patterns). Doing it all in one game where you have to recall the pattern (and endings!) instantly and make no mistakes along the way is trickier :)
I've added some extra instructions to the video desription which may not be obvious when watching. The pattern works 100% of the time if run correctly. In general, a Pac-Man pattern that gets all the points on a board is much less forgiving than a pattern that just clears the board. Any mistimed turn will cause the ghosts to go off pattern.
@Freddy3740 By default, you make the turns as early as possible; however, there are places where you don't. Expand and read the full video description and you'll see the places where special care is required. For example, near to where you get the first 800, you don't want to make that left turn as early as possible.
Just been testing this out on the m.a.m.e version and honestly, this rarely works. The beginning of the pattern seems fine but after you get the 1st cherry and head right to the power pill, the ghosts rarely seem to group together (referring to 1:20 in this video). Most of the time, they'll split, going up and down. Sometimes they'll head back to the other side of the board. For me at least, i'd say, this works about 1 out of 10 times. Not very constistant enough to really use.
Fantastic! I drank two soda and ate a hot dog as I watched this.
If you got it to work once, then the pattern will work 100% of the time if turns are made correctly. Maximum point patterns are not easy to execute and you really have to commit to making good turns throughout the pattern.
1 week update - I made my first attempts at playing complete recorded games through the ninth key. First attempt was 336,800 (missing 28,800 points) and with 5 deaths. I thought that was ok, but on my second attempt I scored 359,200 (only missing 6,400 point) with one death, which I was very pleased with! Only missed points on the 2nd bell and 6th key. Messed up the 2nd apple too, but managed to eat it clean anyway.
If you are playing on MAME, it works on both. Just gotta make ALL the turns quick.
I think after 2 good days of working on these patterns you can have them memorized and running well. The 1-second patterns are the toughest to memorize and execute, as they are the longest (i.e. have the most turns). As you run through the patterns, you'll find quite a few have the same base and differ only towards the end of the pattern. Hopefully this makes the task less daunting.
NOTICE: this also works on the NAMCO museum version for the gamecube.
freaking awesome. can't wait to try it myself.
The version of Plug n Play Pac-Man that comes bundled with New Rally X, Pac-Man Plus, Pac-N-Pal, Super Pac-Man, Mappy and so on has MUCH more faithful ghost behaviors and sound than the old purple one that comes only with Galaxian, the old Rally X, Galaxian and Bosconian, I find my patterns from the original board need only very slight tweaking.
i just noticed a video on youtube called 'how to install mame' which will help..I remember getting a bit confused at first...happy ghostmunching
Yeah, I did end up getting it to work with the Midway version. I didn't know that it was "random" at first.
Actually, the whole pattern works fine. This is very different from saying the pattern is easy to execute correctly.
Thanks for the video and explanations ! I find this first (supposedly simple?) pattern to be hard to achieve systematically possibly due to the hyper-sensitivity on control inputs. Despite numerous attempts, I could at best clear half the board. I did note that I need to make the turns as early as possible except in the indicated places. But I am certainly missing something. For example, it seems that holding the input right during the long straight line starting at 0:04 messes up the behavior of the ghosts. Should one avoid keeping inputs pressed during straight portions? Would be nice that the video includes input display.
"Make turns as early as possible" is probably a bit misleading. More precise is "Don't make late turns", as in, when you arrive at a corner, you should already be pressing in the new direction. It doesn't matter if you pressed the joystick one frame before you got there, or 100 frames before you got there, or 1000. So no, it won't matter which way you are holding the joystick along the long straightaway. You can press right, or let go of the joystick along the long straightaway, it has no effect. Yes, simple is a very subjective term. I've found while trying to support these patterns, there are a lot of unknown variables that I can't know about unless I'm watching the person play.
@@PacStrats Thank you so much for the very fast reply ! This is much appreciated. I'll keep on practicing in order to get the rhythm.
Edit: I managed to complete this board ! It really requires a lot of precision. As I am new to patterns, I had to backup and learn simpler patters available on this website: 2 of the 3 patterns that allow to complete the first 20 boards without max points. These are great to get a feeling for control inputs and how to take optimal turns. I found the keyboard much more convenient than the pad (still have to try the stick). With this practice under my belt, I went back to this perfect pattern and had a much better feeling for it. A subtle, point in my opinion, is to manage that Inky turns right at 0:56 (and not go straight as it messes up the pattern). Once this is achieved, it is a win ! I am (re-)discovering Pac-Man and very much impressed by this perfect pattern and the very accurate indications to fulfill them. Hats off !
Ok, practiced some more tonight and learned the 1st galaxian through 1st key. There're working ok, but still having some consistency problems. In particular on the 3rd energizer on the 1-second boards sometimes pink and blue go left instead of coming down towards me to eat. I'm not sure if I'm turning too sooner someplace or (more likely) lagging on a turn someplace.
This pattern works but its not the safest cherry pattern nor is it the traditional cherry pattern used by pros...this pattern will has far to narrow of a time gap.
you need to download the 'mame' emulator, which has the original pacman, and more or less every other original arcade game too.. just google 'mame'. you can download the roms for it from certain sites..
well you have to keep moving about the pattern u cabt slow down or do anything diffrent this patter needs to be performed to a T to achieve desiered results all i can suggest is practise makes perfect
What about the plug -n-play games??? Doesn't seem to work for this. Back in the days I was considered a Master..but would usually wipeout on the 14th key (talking 1981 here or something like that). Anyway..I knew the patterns then but it doesn't seem to be working for the Plug-n-play games..any suggs.??
I'm using MAME, definitely playing the ROM for the real original version, and I can't get this pattern to work at all. At the first part where you're supposed to get 800, I get 200 and the others escape. I've tried a dozen times. I hold the button before each turn to be absolutely sure it turns right on the dime. I don't know what more I could be doing.
Works for Puckman (Namco), but I couldn't get it to work for the US version (Midway).
at 0:20, the ghosts do not stay single file for me, they always break off.
Are you facing to the right before you eat the second 400? That would be the first place I'd look. If you can't figure it out, and you know how to make an .inp file recording of your play, send me a message and we'll get it solved.
This one works fine, but I find it less intuitive than a lot of the later ones. Just make sure you take note of the hints in the "more info" part of the description.
Neil, how long do you think it would take a decent player to learn all the patterns necessary for a perfect game? I just spent a little over 2 hours learning the first 4 patterns from scratch and running them in a row to a perfect apple. I'm guessing some of ther later patterns are much harder to run though.

I have the MAME. But I don't have the foggiest idea how to configure it to play games, and the readme documents are way too sophisticated for my level of computer literacy.
Where can I get a pattern-friendly emulator and ROM for Pac-Man?
Are you sure this pattern is consistent? I've had issues with just the first set of ghosts lining up properly most of the time they run the opposite way before I turn the corner. I'm just using the typical puckman and pac man roms for mame.
i tired this on some flash pacman applications, it didn't work =(
i cant get the ghosts to line up properly at 0:32
nevermind i had to turn 1 frame late
also did you know that there are more than 1 pattern that can lead to the same score
@@Jreyes4127 Glad you got the pattern sorted out. And yes, in theory there are an infinite number of perfect Cherry board patterns :)
Not bad, but not the Cherry Pattern i grew up with. What video Capture Soft did you use and is it freeware? Love to respond to your vid with my patterns for the different levels..
4th day update - I learned the rest of the patterns up through the 9th key. Still making lots of mistakes though, especially on the 1-second boards. Most of them run without problems provided I remember them, except I still sometimes have problems with the 3rd energizer on 1st galaxian pattern. Will see if I can get more consistent over the next few days.
do you have to get it as a mame or is there any other way to get this version of the game? i remember having this version when i was like 8 and it ran as an exe.
HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!!!!!
Nothing different, other than it's later on in the pattern. If you can record a Pac-Man game in MAME (which creates an .inp file), send the .inp file to me and I'd be happy to play it back and figure out what's going wrong. PM me if you need any assistance.
finally did it after like 50 tries =]
How do u memorize that?
Give a thumbs-up if you remember the anxiety provoking gameplay (mixed with raging teenage hormones) of Pacman in the gameroom of a bowling alley, knowing you only had 4 quarters (or less) in your pocket, and having a curfew.
where is this version online?? the games ive been playing havent worked with these cheats!! Help!! i need an adress where i can play this version
everywhere ive looked for the game that works with these exact cheats i always get eaten!! where can i play this version online that works with these cheats?? The ones ive been playing must not be the correct version...
I play on the 360. You get an extra life after 10,000 pts. Do you ever get another?
Wow, I been playing Pac Man for 37 Years and that is the best Cherry Pattern. Thanks. Do you have a perfect 9th key pattern.
awesome
freaking awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
ye there has been so many variations on pacman since the original realese its not funny so they probably altered the games AI for the plug & play
@CowbellProfessional It's not the sharing of nostalgia I find odd, it's the fact that you say "Give a thumbs-up"....
@ltsjack Not beging (sic), Jack, just sharing a little nostalgia. You'll find yourself doing the same when you reach this age, and saying some of the same things as your parents. Enjoy your youth. Things are easy right now, trust me.
The monster "A.I." in the plug n play games is nothing like the original Pac-Man game. This pattern has no chance of working on a plug n play Pac-Man.
very nice pattern.. i'm working on it almost have it down
Hey, which version is this?
These patterns were played on the MAME emulator. All of these patterns work on every version of MAME since 1998. Pac-Man is emulated perfectly by MAME.
@@PacStrats where can I find it?
@@Monty_Humble There are plenty of resources and walk throughs online that can explain better than I could.
@@PacStrats ok, though the kind I play is on the Nintendo Switch. Do they have different patterns?
@@Monty_Humble Sorry, I'm not sure.
Absolutely does not work on the Xbox 360! tried to immitate this on there but doesnt work mate!
Patterns! Basically being really good at Pac-Man comes down to patterns - which is kind of annoying and very frustrating. Even the new Pac-Man ce has patterns. And at mid-game, when you know you failed to perform a certain pattern, you just start the game over Annoying!
wow
dont work on messenger
Adam soultoukhanov It has different patterns. You just have to try and try until you find the pattern
30,000, 50,000
danm you can get much better than that.
can you?
@CowbellProfessional Yeah, like anyones whos above 40 would make comments beging for thumb ups -.-
