    My iPhone 15 Plus is smaller, its focal length wider. It doesn’t have an EVF, but neither does the Lumix. ;-)

      When people talk about 28mm, it is 28mm, nobody wishes it to be wider. Not understanding this and saying a phone has wider focal length shows how little you know and care about photography, hence making your opinion irrelevant and moot.

    HI Robin, nice summary on the GM1. I love this little camera and was gifted one recently because I needed something small to smuggle into somewhere that doesn't allow reporters (I'm not a reporter but that's another story). It was so small and cute, that I couldn't bear to lose it if I was stoped so decided to take an Epl 9 instead. I recently went back to the motherland, starting in KL, and would have liked to do a shutter therapy tour with you, but time and girlfriend didn't allow. But when I was in Malacca bus station, I saw a GM1 in a shop window, BNIB! 2000MYR. I nearly broke and bought it. Now that I'm back home in Europe, I'm kicking myself for not splashing out. Keep the great content coming! ✌️

    Fun video Robin. I always love seeing your KL street scenes. I have an orange GM1. Hard to blend in with that. I call this my party camera. You can hang it around your neck and still hold a drink and a plate of food in your hands and you don’t have to set the camera down. I often just use iA mode and let the camera do all the work. It’s also a great conversation starter for introverts like me.

    Thank you Robin for all of the hard work you put into these informative and enjoyable videos. You always make photography, which can be intimidating at times, seem fun and accessible. Despite having worked in a photo shop in the 1990's, I found myself hesitating to shoot photos lately because the camera settings are not still not intuitive. Thank you for reminding us that it's more than okay to use the program mode and just have fun shooting :)

    Great advice on the grip Robin.. I have one on my Sony RX100 III and it makes a world of difference. Great Street shots. It's winter in the US mountains and not a lot of color to be had. I don't have the 14mm but I do use the 15mm 1.7 and the OLYMPUS 17 2.8. I agree a new GM would crush the market.. we can only hope.

    I just got the DJI version of the 15mm f1. 7 for my G100, the combo is compact, but your 14mm/GM1 combo looks like it would be used by the KGB.
    It looks amazing for night photography, but I can't be without the EVF in the bright Florida sun.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Sure, if EVF is important, then there are many options. But for me, if I were to use a camera the size of G100, I'd expect at least built in image stabilization. I can live without it in GM1 because it is tiny.

    • @clintjohnson5914
      @clintjohnson5914 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @skoidat.. that sounds like a winning combination. I picked up the G100 over Thanksgiving and it's starting to win its way into my mini camera heart. Didn't think I would love/need the viewfinder over the GM1.. and it might just be "new toy syndrome".. but this last couple of months virtually every camera has stayed home and the G100 has been my everyday carry for the last couple of months.. great shooting to you..

    • @skoidat
      @skoidat 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@clintjohnson5914yeah, I'm one of the G100s biggest defenders. I have a regular rotation of cameras that I use, but I really find myself especially excited to get back to shooting with the G100. I have high quality stabilized lenses and I'm not scared to raise the ISO up a bit. stabilization is rarely a problem for me.
      The G100 is everything I would expect from an MFT camera. I'm very happy with it. That said, there is always a better camera no matter what you're shooting with. If you're happy with your gear and it does what you want it to do, then that's all that matters.

    Here in the uk the GM1 is about £300 used, lens is about £120 used. I mostly use a zv-e10 but I kept my Sony A5100 and I keep it with SEL20F28 pancake lens, marginally larger camera than GM1, 24 megapixels, APS-C and a flip up screen. Total cost was about £350 for camera and lens.

    If you ever get the chance, it'd be amazing to see a head to head comparison between the Leica Q3 43 and a Pentax K1 with a 43 Limited lens. I wager the Leica wins, but also that the Pentax combination would be very close and beat it hands down in terms of value.

    Nice combo setup Robin, I i can see why you love it so much. I am going to go with Pany GX850/GF9 instead because it's just a little bit bigger but I gain a flippy uppy screen (for selfies with my doggie) and at half the price.
    For the cost of Pany Leica 15mm f 1.7 I can get both Pany 14mm f 2.5 and Pany 20mm f 1.7 ... But since i already have it in the form of DJI 15mm f 1.7 I will add the Pany 14mm f 2.5 for infrared (its the sharpest lens for that with no hot spots) and the Pany 20mm f 1.7 just because its a classic lens by now.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Between the Panasonic 14mm and 15mmm, no question the 15mm is superior, and you already have it!
      The GM1 is fun because of its tiny size. The bigger cameras are more functional and practical in all ways. Better grip, and more controls/dials/buttons.

    I have a GX1 that I usually pair with the 14mm f2.5 or 20mm f1.7. It is not as compact as the GM1 (but those GM bodies have jumped exponentially in price) but is still a great, inconspicuous street camera. My main gripe is that there is not EV and the LCD screen is hard to see in bright sunlight. Yes, a new MFT compact would be most welcome. Peace.

    Great video. I've been dreaming of a GM5 (or alternatively a GM1) to complement my mFT equipment for a long time. But here in Germany they are hard to find on the second-hand market, and if they are, they cost a lot of money. A used GM5 in good condition is priced noticeably higher than a new GX80, and is on a par with a new G81. And since I have the GX80, the G81 and the G9, the money for an expensive GM5 has not been worth it to me so far.

      If you have the E-P7 and you love it then maybe you should help fill in the gap and create some content. Else complaining about why people ignore the camera is not going to help making content magically appear.
      I am sick and tired of people accusing me of irrelevant things. I am not surprised if someone asked me why I ignored the washing machine next.

In a comment below, I provided a link comparing the size of the GM5 and the E-P7, which aren't too terribly apart in measurements. An advantage of the E-P7 over the GM1 is that it came out in 2021, so has a larger 20 megapixel sensor, IBIS, etc. Definitely worth checking one out if you can access one on the used market or from Japan. It's a nifty little camera. And the GM5 has the EVF, which the E-P7 lacks.
