The guy in the box it's his ego...the stage direction, cameras shots and choreography is from the Greek legendary stage director Fokas Evangelinos. You should check all the entries since 2004 to 2024 he has done for Eurovision. It's very interesting.

People have it out for Azerbaijan because of some shady stuff that did happen, yes, but I don't think it's controversial to say that this is a great song. Most of their entries deserved the placements they got throughout the 2010s.

Please also check out the runner up from 1996 held in Oslo Norway: Representing Norway with "I Evighet" performed by Elisabeth Andreassen! She previously won for Norway in 1985 as part of the duo Bobbysocks. This was her 4th time in Eurovision. Her 1996 live performance was stunning.

One of my favorites that year but only started to fell in love with the song and the performance after the grand final, it's not even in my top list when the semi started.

This second place came out of nowhere. No idea why it got that high
why? the song is so beautiful. even if it is not for some, the staging is good, which catches attention immediately. It was the top song that received the most 12 points that year. Denmark came first by getting lower points from each country.

A great song, but I get distracted by the dancers and stop paying attention to the actual song. I think that's the only downside of this.
This performance was fine. Denmark won this year with a bland song and one of the most generic performances of the past decade. Overall a meh year.

the only reason this boring dull song got such high plae is because Azerbaijan bribed the judges, EBU changed the rules because of Azerbaijan
The juries weren't the problem. It was the televote that gave Azerbaijan the win in 2011, and Azerbaijan did better with the televote in 2013 aswell based on the average rankings
well, that actually applied a lot more in 2011 and is the only reason they beat the Italian Jazz Piano number.. that man was BRILLIANT

The juries had nothing to do with Azerbaijan's win. It's because of the juries Italy almost won while the televote gifted Azerbaijan the win

First ..the song is not boring, listen to the composition, the instrumentation... And second , Eurovision board can be bribed by anyone, if Israel can do it why not Azerbaijan? Neither should be in Eurovision, they are not in Europe...just like Australia is not
Genuinely never liked this song, but i loved the performer, the staging and his performance. He connected with the audience so well. You can tell hes a seasoned performer and has a tonne of charisma, but sadly for me the song is so forgetful and bland.
