Thanks for this question! Yeah, lots of people get confused and it was confusing to me at first, but I'll do my best to explain it.
For some songs it's nice to get a low note below the E string (like Eb or D), so bassists have this tuning called "Drop D tuning" where you basically take just the low E string and tune it down a whole step. It's confusing to play at first, but once you get familiar with the notes, it becomes really useful. The tuning that I use is in the description under this video (for every tutorial too), so feel free to check that out! Another note: I don't always use Drop D tuning. :) Hope this clarifies it up!
