  • Brand New Mazda MX-5 Miata Vs Classic Cool Lotus Elise - which should you buy for £25,000?
    In this video series I look at desirable brand new cars, compare them to cool classic cars and tell you which one you should buy.
    In this case I recommend the awesome Lotus Elise (in S1 or S2 guise) over the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It'll cost you around the same money and is even more of a pure driver's car and very special indeed. The budget? Just £25,000 for a thoroughbred roadster.
    This is my new series on #BCGBulletin as #BCGBrandNewVsClassicCool and I hope to do more of these. Would love to get your feedback and suggestions!

    I aspire to a Elise, but my trusty NA mx5 is still great fun and cheap as chips to run, with nearly 400k kms on the clock it still runs like a top and has made me a much better driver over the 15yrs of mx5 ownership..i had several nissan zeds, a 944 and the mx5 is better than both of them ,for me the only place to go now is an Elise , thats the next level after a modified mx5, ...excellent video thanks..

    Your presentation is very enjoyable, and I love your focusing on driving pleasure above numbers and shock and awe value. I have driven my uncle’s Gen 1 and Gen 2 MX5s (or Eunos Roadster here in Japan) a few times, and they are good. I test drove an Elise and an Exige last year and found them to be on a completely different level, though. I plan to drive my Sport 240 until I am no longer able to safely operate it. I can’t imagine anything this side of a 7 being any more fun, and that’s a little too impractical.

    The Elise was introduced in 1996. Go out in an Mx5 , you are going for a drive. Go out in an Elise, and you have an adventure. From an ex S1 owner, now S2 owner.

    Your UAE review is superb perhaps one of the best I’ve seen in that it describes the experience perfectly. In terms of the MX-5 I prefer the styling and engine of the Abarth 124.

    I simply agree with your argument of supercars vs natural sports cars which aligns with humans

      Thank you - here's how I see it: supercars are for poseurs and proper sportscars like these are for drivers!

    Beautiful review Shahzad! It's always a pleasure to watch your Elise road test. I agree with you, I too would choose Elise. The Lotus offers a feeling of greater control and is also a true, prestigious and pure English sports car. I like your idea of putting a Civic Type R engine on an Elise mk1. What a bomb that would be! Like an F1. It already won me over. I choose the Elise. Congratulations, I can't wait to see your next episode. Ps, have you ever driven an MR2, what do you think? The 2002 one resembled the Porsche Boxster mk1. Bye😃👋

    My Westfield like the Lotus has such a connected feeling from the road to the driver and it doesn't drive like a modern car, where there is an artificial extra step involved that takes away from the whole dynamic experience of driving.

    "The Elise has been around since 1989 (@ 5:12)". No, it was released in September 1996. The MX-5 was in 1989.

    • @BlatentlyFakeName

      The Elise is way tighter inside. It looks a similar width, but it's wider at the rear due to being mid engine and having wide rear arches+tyres. Plus it has chunky sills which eat up a lot of interior space.

  • @patlalla148

    The shots with the picture in picture is a good one. The car does not seem smooth. Could be the road but seems bumpy.

    • @BrownCarGuy
      @BrownCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably more to do with the camera moving on its mount - LOL! Don't forget though that cars like the Elise are very rigid and stiffly set up, they're tuned for sharp dynamic responses rather than a comfy ride.
