    Had the opportunity to see Sammy in '79, opened for Boston at Boston Garden- blew Boston off the stage. After every Boston song the crowd screamed SAMMY-SAMMY. It was almost embarrassing for Boston. Packed house- 7th row seats.
    Great time.....

    He did a show in Salt Lake City in the 80s, pre-Van Halen. Almost nobody showed up. It was embarrassing. A lesser man would have mailed it in. Not Sammy. He looked at the nearly empty arena and said, "Your friend will regret it." Then absolutely tore the place up. You'd have thought he was playing to a packed Rose Bowl or something. You'd have thought there were a hundred THOUSAND fans, not just a hundred. I still laugh at people to this day who didn't buy a ticket.

      I coincidently went to a post VH David Lee Roth show, "Skyscraper" tour I believe. Poison opened up and there was no comparison in show quality. I'm not a huge Poison fan, I mostly wanted to see Steve Vai play guitar but, Poison was damned near album perfect and I, along with the rest of the crowd started walking out of the DLR show about 3 songs in. I don't know if he was drunk, really does suck live because its the only time I ever saw him live, or both. Even Steve Vai on guitar couldn't save that show.

    St Louis. Mo and K-SHE 95, the longest running rock station in world! We were one of the first areas outside of the Bay Area to really get behind Sammy….. and he’s never forgotten it! It should be a “bucket list” destination. Sammy, Live in the Lou! It just doesn’t get much better!

      Saw him pre VH with VH with Chickenfoot and the Circle. Never disappointed. My only complaint was there were some shows that he just didn’t play enough guitar 🎸.

      Read his book (appropriately enough entitled "Red")... it is a good read. He made his songwriting one of the main things in his life. He is a very prolific songwriter. :)

    Flipping awesome.... I always loved Red... Song was one of my gotos back in the day I always thought of Sammy as the "George Throughgood of Hard Rock/early 80s metal". Guy is brilliant and always, always, always absolutely nailed it and took names live. If I was stuck on a desert island with nothing but Sammy Hagar CDs I would make it cause his music has always been so uplifting and powerful for me. Red is probably my favorite of his (and maybe for his has well)... To me it's his true signature tune that most people don't understand.
    I always wonder what would have happened had he not gone into VH... I often believe that he, Neal, Kenny, and Micheal Shreve would have not stopped the HSAS thing and done another album that would have likey altered rock history in a different way...

    Rather hear Gary Pihl play it, but that's the Red Rocker's theme song. He's sure got the Robt Plant hair goin on as always. Voice is great here too and he rocks that Strat

    Almost a shame he joined VH. He had tremendous commercial success with VH but I bet had he stayed solo his music would have been better.

    • @EscapedFromAzkaban
      @EscapedFromAzkaban 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. Nothing he did in Van Halen was as good as his solo stuff. In fact, Van Halen was never as good after he joined compared to DLR era. Just wasn't a good match pverall.

  • @heritierdhetrurie7119
    @heritierdhetrurie7119 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    TheoneGodfather & EscapedFromAzkaban:
    bullshit, Van Halen did great things. Both with David and with Sammy. It was just different. Hagar is a great (even surprising) artist, but the things Van Halen did were superior. It was they who, in the late '70s and early' 80s, regenerated Metal.
