It's sad to see because I lived in the area since 1974, and watch this line decline and people don't realize it's not just about the Montclair connection there was a time when there was Freight customers on this line where there were union jobs Manufacturing, warehousing, not just passenger service by the late 70s early 80s most of the customer started to disappear so there was still a local Freight but only had one or two customers on it and by the early 2000's they were gone. It's not just a lack of passenger service that was a problem. It's also the fact that there was many freight trains that ran this line and they're all gone and that's lack of jobs. There used to be a connection down in Great Notch and they would be able to run freight trains through Cedar Grove down to Roseland all the way through Whippany into Chester New Jersey. From Mount Olive all the way to Chester that line is now a bike path as well and the section that ran through the Caldwells, Verona, and Cedar Grove into Little Falls is now a path as well. There was another connection up in Newark and the line would double back down into Bloomfield and go as far into the Oranges. Once you reach Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield the line is no longer there and has been ripped up to the oranges for years. Again many customers lost many jobs lost. No different than the line that used to run through Valley section of Belleville into Newark which has the drawbridge that was the famous scene in the Annie movie in the 80s. Line is now out of service used to Branch off in Clifton cut through Clifton, Nutley to Belleville into Newark far as I know there's only one customer left a plastic plant not too far from the Home Depot in Clifton that's the only customer I think left on the line. So the entire line from the Clifton Circle through Nutley into Belleville is just deadline, and that's being now ripped up.

Well, the line was rerouted in 2002, so this ROW is no longer needed.

@@TexasRailfan2008 actually that's a good thing, because this ROW is no longer needed with the Montclair Connection.
