The Slishman Traction Splint (STS) is an innovative traction device that solves many of the current problems with other femoral traction splints.
The STS applies traction from the hip rather than from the ankle. Other devices have cumbersome assembly that can waste precious time. The STS requires minimal assembly and is finely adjustable for both adult and pediatric femoral traction splinting. The STS is also relatively radiolucent in comparison with dense bone and does not obstruct visualization like the hard steel of many other traction splints.
A patented pulley system makes traction application easy and applies greater mechanical advantage than other splints are able to provide. A unique lower extremity hitch system allows application despite ankle or foot injury or even amputation.
The STS is the only traction splint that does not extend beyond a patient's foot. This allows for easier transport in helicopters, litters or other confined spaces. This also minimizes risk that the splint will be bumped. (No one enjoys having their splint struck by a slammed ambulance door.)
It is ideal for both pre-hospital, emergency department and in hospital use, and requires minimal training. It weighs less than 18 ounces and comes in a convenient carrying case. The STS is changing the world of traction splinting.

•Included are 3 telescoping aluminum poles with 2 easy-to-use thumb screw locks, a neoprene ankle hitch, an adjustable nylon groin strap with quick release buckle, and an optional mid-leg neoprene strap that can be applied for added rotational stability.
•Telescoping poles are made of light weight, high tensile strength 6061 aluminum.
•Aluminum is barely visible on X-rays, however, screws from locks are steel and therefore more radiodense and visible.
•Corrosion and shock resistant.
