To melt the bigger lock you need to use a clay grafite crucible as a funnel by drilling a hole in the bottom of the crucible when you fill the crucible with the thermite the stream will be directed onto the lock underneath it
What you're calling the "metal part" is actually the shackle. Also, a simple bolt-cutter works wonders at opening locks and is much quicker and simpler than any of your methods.
